He was brought in to be a backup and 3rd down specialist. Is there a LB behind the starters that's better than Gildon. Haggan is as close as it would come, and he aint much. Weak against the run, not a good coverage backer and only effective as a rusher when he's unblocked;-) Although I give Posey big props for the play he made in the Titans game which is far and away the very best play I've ever seen him make in a Bills uni. If I were that twisted and obsessed (zip it smartasses) I'd make a similar page reviewing Posey's 2003 season. And before I begin to sound like a disgruntled nutjob stalker, let it be known that I have already seen Posey be a little more physical than he was last year; i.e. I haven't seen him turn his back to any slot receivers. A bright vet who understands a lot of the plays and what's going on, but at his advanced age for a player simply does not have the wheels and agility anymore to make plays he sees need to be made. We may need a back-up LB and if so we keep him, but I have been impressed with effort and production McKenzie has shown as a designated [ass rusher. Posey is an above average Sammy backer who got better as the season went on. In his first year as a linebacker in a 4-3 set, he recorded the most forced fumbles and 2nd most sacks on a #2 defense. He was almost exclusively a pass rusher with the Texans and his responsibility changed a lot in the Bils scheme. Why do people so ignore this aspect of picking up a new guy and plugging him? Our defense is going to be better than last year if for no other reason than the vets added last year (i.e. Adams, Spikes and Posey) will be much more comfortable. I realize it is fashionable to make comments demanding instant top notch performance, but the reality is that it does take players time to adjust to a new scheme, new responsiblities and new teammates. In defense of Gildon, while I am sure his advancing age (I wish I was his age LOL!) has something to do with his lack of productivity with us, the other thing is he (and his coaches) has to find a niche for himself in a 4-3 scheme.
