I am just going to say it, We beat NE in the opener

EJ3 you have quickly made a name for yourself on this board, in a negative way. You're on my watch list for ignore and it really takes a lot to get on that list.

You should know that if there are two outcomes for something it does not mean there are 50-50 odds of that thing happening.

It is possible that you get hit by an asteroid on your porch. It is also possible that you do not get hit by an asteriod on your porch. That doesn't mean there are 50-50 odds of you getting hit by an asteroid on your porch.

Why so serious?

Aw, even if we do win they will be making excuses for NE losing their TEs.

PTR

if we beat new england in the opener, no matter how ugly, how many injured or incarcerated players, bad calls, unlucky bounces...i will not apologize for the win. i will take it and enjoy my euphoria for all that it is worth, and it would be worth a lot!

I will say that the Bills should have a decent chance. Brady might be without his top 5 targets from last year and there will be very little film on hopefully a new aggressive D. That said, NE will only beat us 45-3. :nana:

Recently, the Patriots have actually beaten the Bills by RUNNING the football. Brady impact has been average to ok.

The one thing we got going is that Billichick hasn't seen our new team, and we've seen his.

On the negative side, we have a new team. We might surprise them in the first half. But, as always, the Hooded One adapts. We will not likely have the experience to follow suit.

My humble advice: Keep expectations low, and you will likely enjoy September more.

You know it's strange. When I first read this post, I dismissed it quickly, quietly, and without much thought. Over the past few days however, I gave this a bit more thought. at least entertained the idea, what should the game look like. Important things came up:

How does our Offence actually perform?

Is the Patriot's D still pretty shoddy?

How will our D do against the infallible constant machine that is Tom Brady?

Tom Brady, while seeming ageless is aging, does he still have it?

If Gronk isn't there, how does Hernandez fair?

If Hernandez is actually in trouble, what happens to the attack pattern of the pats?

Who the hell is actually a WR for the pats.....?

Will the pats rely on their run game with ever changing backfield?

Can our D actually stop the run with the new schemes?

Will we make corrections at half-time?

At some point, there was a small rise of hope with in me that, maybe, just maybe, going into this game, i could consider the outcome to truely be 50/50, to say that neither team really had a leg up or should be expected to win.

Then I remembered that, we are the Bills, a young and unproven team, new schemes on both sides of the ball. We are opening against a team coached by, one of the better football minds of the history of the sports. Along with that, is a QB who, honestly makes even the most pedestrian of WR's look amazing. Someone who may and probably should go down as one of the best QBS in the history of the sport, if not for his numbers, for the fact that he put up his numbers with, basically band aid WR's that without him and the system that is being used in NE, would be happy to be number 3 or lower receivers on other teams.

I am extremely enthused by the new coaching staff and direction we seem to be going as a team. I would love nothing more for the Bills to open the season with a win, and even more so to beat the Pats. However, i can't bring myself to honestly say we are not underdogs in the competition and will be fighting an uphill battle. If nothing else i would like to see an exciting game, perhaps something in the range of 20-17 or 24-20 or 23-21. One where the reason for our lose was not lack of talent or terrible coaching, but more about the youth of our team and lack of comfort and time with the new system.

PS. If we won the game 21-20 because we blocked the game winning FG attempt by the pats on the final play of the game, all because of "Megahand". I will probably be uncontrollable at the bar.

PPS. Who am I kidding..... if we win, I'll be uncontrollable regardless of have it happened.

This is all great. It's the same thing I've been wishing(not thinking ) through. Yeah, all of it is there, on both sides. Who knows what it means? I have petty much decided that the bar is the very last place I will need to be to watch this game, but, knowing me like I do, I will probably fail in that effort.

...............

Side point: I'd hardly call Deion Branch, Randy Moss, and Wes Welker, and later, Gronkowski and Hernandez "band aid" people. In fact, Brady wouldn't have the numbers he had has without them. I don't get this myth that Brady hasn't had receivers. Sure he has. Terry Glenn, Deion Branch, Troy Brown, Givens were pretty darn good too. He didn't have Jerry Rice/Andre Reed year in and year out for 10 years or whatever it is. Ok. But having Randy Moss at the top of his game for as long as he did, and then Wes Welker during/right after? Come on. If you look at his entire career, he's had Pro-Bowl caliber receivers many more years than he hasn't.

THIS is the first year, and the only time prior to this year, was what I was saying in 2006, right BEFORE they signed Moss, and Welker :wallbash: : they don't have anybody above average at WR.

I just looked at every year since 2001 to be sure. Yeah, 2006 was the 1(one) year where he had Troy Brown and a bunch of no names. Every other year, somebody on the list above was on their team. So 1 year out of 12 = "Brady makes people who would be 3rd/bench WRs look great"?

Myth Busted. Where did this myth come from? Take one guess. Hint: it involves Connecticut.

IF you want to talk about a guy who had little/no help at WR, and absolutely made the WRs he did have look like stars, and is a HOFer....much better to start with: John Elway.

Let's not forget the importance of Mike Pettine, he knows the Pats well and has had success against them, if our db's can hold their own against the patsies receivers, the Bills can win it. Do the patsies have db that can cover Goodwin and Graham?

Can Goodwin and Graham get off press coverage ?

Can our qb take a five step drop ?

These and other questions will be answered when my Coach Doug and his two cohorts meet The Hooded One.

And so it shall be written

I was thinking that the Hernandez situation should change the odds for the opener. According to all the casinos I know about that have early odds for the opener, our odds have improved 0.5 points. We went from 7.5 point to 7 point underdogs. I'll bet the odds tighten up further as the season approaches.

Lol.

Do the Bills have anyone that can cover Donald Jones and Matt Slater?

Knowing the personality of that team if they get a lead. They'll try to get DoJo 150 yards and 3TDs in garbage time. (Did he used to play for the Bills? Oh we didn't know because we don't pay attention to minor league football. We're just working out the kinks in week 1. )

typically - the only thing that changes the odds are the bets made.
