MS Walk 2013 - "Family Rocks" - May 5th 2013

Through Two Bills Drive and the The Stadium wall, I have been allowed to make an annual request for sponsors for the MS Walk (thanks Scott!).

In 2012 TBD and other sponsors raised about $1,250.

Total donations since I started this in 2002 on TBD are nearly $12,000!

Back in 2005, in a post, I wrote:

"I was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis in 1994. Since then, I have quit smoking, dropped 10 lbs, ran a 10K, hiked mountains from the Adirondacks to the Sierra Madres. I am still in remission, thanks in part to medicine that was NOT available less than a generation ago. With research and maybe some luck, I believe MS will be a curable disease one day; we will be able to do more than just treat the symptoms, or DELAY the next attack."

There is still no cure, but the treatment for preventing a relapse has gone from daily injections (ugh) and monthly chemo-type IV drip bags to a daily pill that is about 75% effective in preventing relapses. Progress is being made!

My team is a regular group of friends and family now, and includes three generations of my immediate family - I am Grandpa Rockpile. laugh.gif

Thanks. I was diagnosed about the same time treatments to slow down the MS that goes into remission were being made available. Everyone's MS is different. I can work around most of my "issues" - at least the MS ones, :w00t:

Can this be posted once to the other forums? I am sure some past sponsors either do not come here or scan over "pinned" posts.

Well, you're a little bit closer Rock!

$10 more and you hit $1,800, but no matter what I think we're all pretty proud of you and happy to donate!

Any updates on this?

He is training, I heard. Currently he is walking to the mail box, then to the john, then the fridge. It's going to be a tough practice.

LOL! I try not to peek at the latest status too often in case I "jinx it!

I will update my sponsor list as soon as I can. I have been mowing the lawn all day and have to leave for work in an hour.

Drum roll please, Griswald style....

The current total collected from you wonderful people (not you jack) is $1,840 !!!!

Maybe we will hit $2,000! But I am so happy and appreciative! (not worthy)

You are the reason I still have faith in people and God.

Anyone got $60 Rockpile can have to make it an even $2000?

(not that I'm prmoting his "walk" in any way with posting this, I just like seeing an even number)

Total as of 5/5/13 is $2,105. I do not have the words to describe my gratitude for your continued generosity!

Along with family and friends, these are the sponsors from Two Bills Drive. If I missed anyone, please send me a PM. I was not 100% sure converting names from the MS sponsor list to TBD list names!

I better get some sleep, the convoy leaves for the walk in twelve hours!

thank you!

FYI: Post walk thoughts

A little sore this morning, after walking 5+ miles yesterday and getting a crown started at the dentist today, but feeling very well.

My MS remains in moderation, so any side effects are minor.

One of my friends who did the walk is 64 and has had double hip replacement TWICE! He was very happy he could do the walk. First time he put the new hips to the test.

We had almost 30 over to the house for pizza, salads, cakes and other desserts, snacks, (and a few brews), and even a pinyata for the kids

Almost a perfect day. One friend who came to meet us at the walk is in the hospital after having chest pains. He did not come to walk, but had to walk a long way in the heat TO the site. He left the park by ambulance. So far so good but they have not released him yet. We are praying for his speedy and healthy recovery.

Thanks again for your generosity!

You Rock!
