No Need to Panic

I agree with Gailey's accessment ...

"It looked ugly. It felt ugly. It was ugly,"

I was disappointed to see the first string do everything 5-wide, and do it poorly.

I was more disappointed to hear from Fitz during the sideline interview that we will be seeing that alot again this season.

I thought the defense looked like an average D, which is a huge improvement over last year but less than I was hoping for.

I was also hoping for a little more domination from the D line.

But it was only preseason game one. The D wasn't horrible and the O has nowhere to go but up.

While we all had high hopes for the first pre-season game, let's not get crazy over the results. Here is why:

1) Remember how ****ty we looked last pre-season? Remember how good we looked the first game? Game plans for pre-season are basic. We aren't opening up the playbook until week one. Especially this year against a division rival. Do you really think we will throw 16 times in a row at any point this year?

2) Other teams looked just as ****ty. I watched some of the Pats-Saints and GB-SD. All the offenses struggled as they often do early in pre-season. Rivers and Rodgers didn't look that good and either did Brady. But does that mean they won't play well during the season? Of course not. Same can be said for Fitz (even though he is not in the class of those QBs).

3) No injuries. We left the game intact. No injuries. Ryan Matthews, the Chargers' RB that many predict to have a huge year, got hurt on his first run. He is out 4-6 weeks, maybe more.

4) Backup positions look much better than in previous years. While the starters didn't look so hot (although I thought the starting defense looked pretty good), the backups played fairly well. You can tell that this team has much more depth than previous years. This is also evident when watching special teams, where backups usually play. Better backups, better special teams. Not to mention a kickoff specialist that kicks the **** out of the ball. No more lobs to the 5 yard line. This helps field position and avoids special team injuries.

Get off the ledge. Let's stay healthy for the season and see what happens.

Carry on.

Come on everyone.....it was the first pre season game.....ite really meant to evaluate talent and work out some kinks. Everything is vanilla .....we are gonna be ok ......and I mean that !!!! Enjoy ur weekend , do yardwork, BBQ, have some beers etc......And don't FRET.

Now that is what I call great posting!

I listened to the game on WGR live for about 10 minutes and thought the Bills were doing terrible based on the radio broadcast. Then I watched the game on the NFL network and had a completely different opinion. It was fine. Vince Young looked way better than Thigpen. The replacement refs were terrible and thats why we got so many false starts and holding penalties. We need the regular refs back ASAP.

Not sure why they didn't call any runs? Shouldn't they mix in a few runs to similate the real game experience?

Young had some terrible throws as well, but Tyler looked terrible IMO. Young's asset is his running ability and is able to make a play with his legs when a play breaks down or he can't find someone to throw to.

As far as the lack of running. They wanted to Fitz to call his own plays and IMO they wanted to see how the WRs run their routes for specific plays. We know what we have in the running game, the WR depth chart after SJ is up in the air...

The replacement refs are a joke...
