i see alot of threads already trashing the team for "not being serious" or "just letting him walk" and this kind of nonsense.

So I say to you, why arent people ripping Johnson???

First, who owes who? Ya he played good and caught some balls, Does the organization "OWE" him for allowing him to play and showcase his skills after drafting him in the seventh round and keeping him on the team when he showed no obvious talent in his first two seasons? Many of you wanted him cut after a drop in greenbay back in 2010. So he played good, so what? hes lucky he even got drafted and then got to start merely because no one aside from evans was any good in 2010.

Second, If he wants so bad to "stay in buffalo" why cant he take less and give the team that gave him a chance a discount? What about the other players his salary will affect?

Third, Why should we risk missing out on signing other key guys this year and next, to overpay a guy who is arguably, at best, around the 15th best receiver in the league? He was actually rated 47 worst as far as drop percentage in the last 2 years by the way. He had alot more than those two game losers.

Fourth, Why all of a sudden the team so dependent on one WR?? we didnt even care about him when we still had Evans and in one year Evans gets dumped (stupidly) and now we have to overpay a guy or we are doomed? We didnt even win with him unless 6-10 is good. What are we just one player away now or something? We cant develop another draft pick? We drafted him in the seventh along with D nelson, imagine if we draft a couple mid rounders and sign one free agent for 6-7 mil. We would be alright.

I hear VJ sucks and Bowe sucks both of whom are faster, taller and stronger and never had lame penalties called on them. And no one even mentions Desean Jackson, who i think is way more talented than stevie, I know for sure hes much faster. Colston?

So even with his penalties, high drop percentage and wierd T.O. like attitude, the team is now screwed without him? Hes andre reed and TT and Jim kelly all wrapped up in one guy?

Im all for stevie returning, just not for more than 6 mil a year, thats alot of money. If hes so serious about being a Buffalo guy, why cant he get so serious about getting a deal done? If he wants to play the market and get every dollar hes worth- I say "F " him.

Do you really think he will ever be signed for only $6 mil? If so.. this is going to be a very one sided thread.

he should be, isnt that the value of a guy whos around 15-25th best reciever in the league? just wait till he starts playing bad if he does get paid, half the board will want him cut "cuz he makes too much"

But how many players these days get paid what their on field production dictates? Isnt it more of a matter of demand? Some team will be willing to pay big money for Stevie and if the the Bills want to retain his services then they will have to pay (or over pay). Thats just the way it is.

While your comments on the other available FA WR's are spot on, you have lost all perspective when it comes to Johnson. Let's look at the money aspect first. This is his best chance and maybe his last to get the huge contract. The only reason to sign with Buffalo before he hits the open market is that then he won't be competing against those other WR's you mentioned for big FA dollars, to take away uncertainty and the risk that other teams may find his dropped winning TD passes and dumb ass penalties not worth top dollar, and to avoid the franchise tag. If the Bills are dumb enough not to use the tag then it is their own fault if he leaves.

Now to your ridiculous home town discount arguement. First of all this rarely if ever happens. It mainly is not in terms of total dollars more in the way the contract is structuredd to help out the team - ie take more in bonus money so it can be spread out over the length of the contract to save cap space. Any player that does take less for the home town discount or a FA that takes less, does so to play for a winning franchise, another superstar player, or the chance to win immediately. None of those apply to Buffalo.

Danny,

If it's overpaying it is by definition stupid. If they can sign him at a fair price, sign him. If someone else is willing to grossly overpay, than let him walk.

He owes the Bills nothing and they owe him nothing. It is business.

It's called Capitalism. He shouldn't take less to stay in

Buffalo. Hopefully, they reach a deal.I think they'll work this out.

But I am a little worried about you. Take it easy bro !!

By far, Ralphie Wilson's favorite TSW poster.

Chris Kelsay makes 5.6 million dollars a year and has done literally nothing for this franchise since he's come here. Yet someone like Stevie Johnson who literally has been this team's most valuable player gets paid slightly more in your world?

If the Bills cheap out on Stevie and try to sell the ridiculously false crap that you're selling then they'll lose a LOT of fans and ticket buyers. If they let Johnson go then I'm not going to care about the Bills nearly as much as I do now or in my lifetime. It will be the official sign that the Bills are a farm team to the real NFL.

Nothing better than fans who say if this happens I am gone!

None ever leave.

Didn't say I was gone. I said that I wouldn't care as much and I won't. I'll always be a fan, but when you tell me you're nothing but a farm team then it's time to put the dream of winning the Superbowl away for good and devote time to something more positive.
