Why Bills lost to Dolphins

If you ONLY look at the stats from the game vs. Miami,

it was ALMOST not a blow out and should have been closer. We had simliar numbers to them.

We even had more yards. Their number #1 wideout had 5 yards

which tells you it wasnt ALL the defense fault.

Have a look, we lost on turnover and inability to convert on third down

BILLS DOLPHINS

First Downs 14 16

Total Yards 245 242

Turnovers 2 0

Time of Possession 28:54 31:06

Net Yards Rushing 41 95

Rushes 19 35

Average Per Rush 2.2 2.7

Net Yards Passing 204 147

Here is where the game was lost:

Third Down Efficiency 0-12 5-12

Interceptions 2 0

Fumbles 4 0

Blocked Punt 1 0

Suck Factor 100% 50%

Fixed it. It's a formula that ESPN just made up because they can.

Dude..the stats from Super Bowl 27 were pretty close, too.

Come on.

Point is they didnt beat us so much as we beat ourselves with mistakes (of course they forced many of these).

Anyways-We gave them the game mor ethan they beat us down to earn that many points.

We lost because we suck. We have a backup for our franchise QB, no powerful wide outs, and a terrible o line. Bills are showing a suck trend for the last 3 weeks. Can't wait to see the Fitz implosion this week.

All you Fitz lovers deserve this dose of suckiness for claiming he is a franchise QB when he is clearly not. Others saw itr too but no, we had to extend this piece of garbage. And he has a noodle arm.

Dude ... the Bills sucked, pure and simple, and in every way possible there was to suck. That's why they lost. Cherry picking stats that make it look closer than it was is meaningless. Go watch the replay of that game and tell me you think that game was close.

It's time to move on to "Spiller time" and see what this kid is made of.

Total garbage post. Statistics are for losers. I was at the game. Left with 10 minutes to go in the third quarter after the blocked punt touchdown. Game was over for all intents and purposes after the first quarter. Game was definitely over at halftime.

Bills defense was atrocious when it counted. First three times Dolphins had the ball, three touchdowns. Bills had a nice first drive, Fitzpatrick made a crummy third down pass to Johnson and they settled for a field goal. That was it for the offense for the first half.

What were the stats for the first half?

Agree we need to get all the young guys in there to see what they have going into next year because we are finished for this season.

Regarding signing Fitz...We are unbelievably unlucky. We HAD to sign the guy when we did. He was a top rated passer in the league the first 4-5 weeks. He looked like he was legit. If his numbers stayed at that level or increased we were in big trouble...His asking price would have gone up, or he could have hit free agency and signed elsewhere..We had no choice but to sign him or risk losing a top passer...Now we know again that we are a cursed organization becuase we got bamboozled. This is different than the stupid Jauron signing, becuase he wasnt going anywhere but we felt compelled to sign him long term after a 5-2 start. That was stupid. We have no luck. Even when we belive we are improving we get smacked inthe face and realize we have not improved one iota in 10 long years..Damnit we are due for some good luck.

Right. Just like Medieval nobleman thought that science was for losers. "Oh, look at those ignorant fools with their TECHNOLOGY and their MATHEMATICS, why would anyone want that? Who needs science when you have a CHURCH! Ha ha ha, what buffoons!" I mean, stats aren't everything, but they're 80%.

You make a valid point. There are meaningful statistics and statistics that don't mean a whole lot. OP's falls into latter category. Point is Dolphins dominated the game. If they didn't get the blocked punt, we still lose. If they didn't get the interceptions we still lose. The one thing the defense did was play stout defense against runs up the middle (Dareus?). Other than that, defense was horrible, especially consideing we weren't playing the Packers. We were playing the freakin' 2011 Miami Dolphins, for crying out loud.

Stats, stats, stats? We lost to the Dolphins because at this stage of the season they are a much better team-all around, to include coaching and especially at the QB position and on defense by a mile. In 2010, the Chargers had the #1 Offense and the #1 Defense and they didn't even come close to sniffing the playoffs-that is what stats get you.

We saw was Spiller was made of. He had first and goal from the one. He had a lane to run in. A linebacker appeared in that lane and Spiller....ran sideways. Second and goal from the 1.

I'm not questioning any NFL players toughness from the comfort of my couch, but Marshawn would be in the end zone every time on that one. Fred would have grazed off of one side of the guy and fallen into the end zone. NFL backs get in on that one. A number 9 pick should CERTAINLY get in on that.

He absolutely does not have the accuracy to be a long term solution at QB for the Bills. This team needs an identity moving forward, I say they draft a QB who doesn't lack the physical tools to play the position and run a complete offense. I cringe at any pass longer than 10 yards for fear it will be wildly over or under thrown and right at the defender.

It isn't all his fault, the O line is really banged up and the WRs are nothing to cheer about. Still can't ignore the mistakes by Fitz though.

There's also a frame where stats show reality and one where they get distorted. In building a 28-3 lead on 2 turnovers, the Dolphins had outgained the Bills 183-91 just before the half, outgaining 2 to 1. Two scoring drives of 23 and 4 yards distorted THOSE, so that looked better than they were. I have to believe even if the Dolphins had to go 80 yards on those drives they would have. Then after they blocked the punt, they basically ran the ball every down and Buffalo caught up yardage wise in garbage time.

You know when Buffalo played Dallas in the first Super Bowl, I was on a ship in the Navy. Back then you could read about the game as it was typed off through the radio station. It looked or read like a close game as well. I do agree the third downs have been a killer but 1st and 2nd down sets up the third down.

forget the stats

The Miami defense pummelled the Bills into outright quitting.

Fitz is the QB because he is one of few who can mask the total ineptness of the OL

However, that trick involves getting the ball out in under 2 seconds and not running a complete NFL offense

to think that by bringing in a traditional 5 tool QB will solve all of the problems while continuing to totally ignore the OL is a death sentence for that QB
