Ralph isn't cheap!

Recommended Posts

So this just spells out that we are overpaying underachievers. I feel much better now that you have exhonerated Ralph from blame... so it's gotta be our talent evaluation or our coaching and execution. I can say we have hopefully cured both those issues in the offseason by bringing in Buddy and Chan. SO... like ESPN has stated in their rankings (Bills 32nd) there is no where to go but up. I have been pessimistic before but worse case scenario, we bite the big one and get a top tier franchise QB next draft and maybe fix our sorry excuse for an O-Line.

You answer a question with a question to avoid answering the question. Slick, very slick.

I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy, John. You've been claiming for years now that upon Ralph's death that the team would be sold to the highest bidder. Why would you make this claim if you didn't know his future plans?

You made the comment that the owner's selling to the highest bidder has been debunked. It has not. You made the claim, now you are backtracking.

The above link was in reference to an article in the Buffalo News. I was unable to bring up the original article.

Where does it say the team will be sold to the highest bidder? Or that it will even be sold immediately upon his death? He could leave the team to his wife (although neither she nor Ralph's daughters want it) and let her find a suitable ownership group, who won't necessarily pay the most money.

Unless you really don't understand logic, you're just obfuscating here. Just admit it - it has not "been debunked." Just admit you misspoke so that we can move on.

True. To be "debunked," Ralph saying "the team will be sold to the highest bidder" would first have to actually exist. Much less we'd actually have to know his intentions WRT team once he passes. Since we're using "logic" and all here...

The bottom line is that without Ralph Wilson there would be no Buffalo Bills, there would be not excitement in the Buffalo area except for the Sabres, and there would be no twobillsdrive forum for everyone to B word about their beloved Bills.

Wow...profound insight there, buddy. And when he dies, there will again be no BUFFALO Bills. You okay with this?

The Buffalo Bills era from 1967-1987 was simply indefensible. Notice how even RW's biggest sycophants conveniently avoid talking about the Bills pre-Polian and focus only on the excuses for the 2000-2010+ era.

The twenty years between 1967-1987 is equivalent to a generation. Unbelievable. What a legacy.

His "debunking" claim represents how he postulates. He says something that is patently false and then argues that it is your responsibility to prove it is false.

Getting him to admit that he misspoke is a challenge beyond most mortals.

exactly. and he has never conveyed shame or offered an apology for this fiasco. if i was this bad at my job, i'd find something else to do. i tend to believe that winning is a rather low priority to him but if you reject that thesis then you must conclude that he's just a bumbling fool. his wealth argues against that. he cares little about his customers or apparently, his legacy.

At this stage of his ownership if you look at his record in its totality it is very embarrassing and discouraging. What we can only hope for is that Nix, with his extended experience in this league, has an understanding on how to build a franchise the correct way. Instead of looking for the quick fix and expedient move, such as the T.O. signing, it appears that he is going to focus on the draft and find and develop his own players. The most encouraging move Nix made was bringing in Whaley, a young talent from a winning Steeler organization. That in itself represents a change from the insular mindset of this backward organization.

It is very easy to look back and say WTF at such peculiar moves as hiring Levy and giving an enlarged authority to a marketing specialist. The owner is approaching 92 yrs of age. If you have seen him in videos you will note how frail he is both physically and mentally. At his age that is not a surprise. At this point I don't expect the owner to be too involved in the operation, assuming his profit margin remains at its current robust level.

The point of some of your posts is basic: Accountability. The owner is the one constant in this team's half century of existence. The record is very lackluster. The owner is the person most responsible for that record. Nothing more simple; nothing more fundamental.

I suspect he cares. (If he didn't care, he wouldn't have fired Dick Jauron mid-season. Photoshopping him out of the team photo was classic.) He just doesn't know what to do.

One day I must travel to this alternate universe of yours, John.

In the meantime, keep searching for ANY proof that Ralph said the team would be sold to the highest bidder. It doesn't exist. Hence it has been debunked.

In your twisted universe Ralph is going to have his team sold to the lowest bidder. That's not the Ralph we know, at least most of us know. :bag:

LOL! You can't find your "the team will be sold to the highest bidder" claim, so instead you set up a strawman and claim that I'm saying Ralph has instructed his team to be sold to the lowest bidder.

Look John, I know you need to make Ralph the villain by claiming that he won't let his wife or daughters own the team (even though it's well-known that none of them want it) and with your equally baseless claim that "the team will be sold to the highest bidder." The fact is, you know neither of these things. Furthermore, as someone earlier pointed out, the team won't merely be sold to the highest bidder. The NFL will consider all bids and choose the best one, which won't necessarily be the highest. Assuming Mary Wilson hasn't changed her mind and now wants to run the team.

rumor that came out a few years ago is that Mary WILL get the team upon Ralph's passing with the intention of selling the team to Kelly's group of investors

I heard the rumor. And it makes FAR more sense (since the daughters won't need to fire sale the team to pay for the death taxes) than the silly notion that Ralph won't allow his wife or daughter(s) to run the team, because he wants the team sold to the highest bidder, since he doesn't care about Buffalo. :bag:

wilson was, is and will die a loser. in fact, he's one of the biggest losers in NFL history in terms of winning percentage and overall losses. If a player failed as badly in a 2 year career with the bills he'd be mercilessly criticized with almost no one to support him. wilson fails for the better part of 50 years and is defended. go figure.

You left out one little fact: Ralph Wilsons' Buffalo Bills are the only team in NFL history to win 4 consecutive Conference Championships and represent their Conference in 4 consecutive SB's in the 44 year history of the SB.

Plus, if Scott Norwood makes that 47 yard field goal, and even if the Bills would have still lost those next 3 consecutive SB's, Wilson would have been voted into the HOF years before he finally made it, and he would be our beloved Bills all time owner. Think about that before you continue ranting how much of a loser Ralph Wilson is, will you? One 47 yard yard field goal staying true instead of sailing wide right, would have changed the way EVERYONE judges Ralph Wilson.
