Saw them in the Aud when I was in High School. Good show, Emerson was staring down all the young ladies at the front and a couple of them were escorted backstage.

Best seats I ever had to that point, 5th row center. Biggest regret: Palmer threw his sticks into the crowd and one bounced off the palm of my hand...and out :)

I guess that makes you a "Lucky Man"....but hey, let's not have any, "Fanfare for the Common Man".....

(oldies but classics)

That concert at Rich in 1974 was great.

Lynryd Skynyrd was the warmup group and they were very good.

The James Gang (Joe Walsh) was in the middle... Ho-Hum

ELP was great and the speakers in each corner of the endzone

provided great sound.

I remember how hard the astroturf was and that would have been

terrible to play football on

Oh man.....they were so effing awesome live. Saw them twice.

Weirdest concert opening/main act I EVER saw was.....Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show opening for ELP. Holy crap.

In James Gang's defense, Joe Walsh left the band in 1971 or 72. That post Walsh stuff was pretty terrible.

I envy this show. I don't really dig on prog, but I've always loved ELP. For some unknown reason I became obsessed with Tarkus in college. I used to get high to that record 2-3 times a week for years.

Saw them 4 times. Always a great show. They had a Q&A with the audience? Also, who played drums?

Very nice set. Even some King Crimson thrown in! This got me thinking....I would love to hear ELP do In the Court of the Crimson King. Hope they come to Ef El Ay.

Was there an opening act?

they had a drum track in a couple of spots....

no opening act...

the q & a was pretty innocuous...i was going to ask about the whole Jimi Hendrix angle that was allegedly supposed to happen, but the guy said they address that every nite....oh well....great show

ok...let me try to 'splain....ELP is getting together for the 'high voltage' concert in london this summer....they are the headliners....Palmer is busy touring and honing his chops with Asia and The Carl Palmer Trio....Keith and Greg are using this unassuming tour to get themselves ready to play the old stuff...rather than get some hack to pretend to matter behind them, they are doing a somewhat acoustic tour to fine tune their skills to get ready to prep for this big show in london....they didn't have a full blown drum machine...they had a sound engineer in a sound booth behind them putting down some percussion tracks when the moog or Greg couldn't because of other musical directions they were focusing on....this little tour was nothing more than a warm up for Keith and Greg while Carl is doing some real gigs and keeping himself in form....

Pathetic. I will stick with my 36 year old Rich Stadium memories.

Thanks for the info.

How did Greg sound? I always thought he had one of the best voices in the biz.

Being a drummer I find that very, very sad. There are plenty of kick ass drummers out there that would have filled in nicely. Either do a full acoustic set with no drums or full electric with a drummer or a combination.
