Coach55 Posted March 23, 2010 Share Posted March 23, 2010 I was playing around with last years QB stats and came up with an interesting statistic I like to call "Modified Completion Percentage". What I did is used the following formula (completions plus dropped passes) divided by (attempts minus spikes minus throw aways). The point was to determine how accurate a QB is. Obviously, this is only one dimension of playing QB, but with a couple of exceptions, this stat seems fairly indicative of how good a QB is. Does this give us hope with Trent? (don't know - he may be too much of a head case). I'm not saying that Edwards is total crap, but he doesn't really take shots downfield and yes, most of his passes are between 3-5 yards. And yes, he is very accurate with those. But until he stops being so injury prone and gunshy about stretching the field, he will not be a quality NFL QB. Funny quip, but TE's inability to get the ball downfield in his main problem. We know he is pretty accurate, but defenses only have to cover 10 yeards off the line of scrimmage, and this also allows the pass rush to just go all out (causing big problems for an O-line, even a good one) In other words, you have tried and succeeded in creating a statistic that makes Trent look "passable", when in fact he is laughable. It shows he is better than everybody we already knew he was better than. Hooray he beats Tony Romo, who is over rated, and in a pass hapy offense, tough to have great completion percentage when you take more shots than everybody else with a mediocre qb. Really, in eleventh place, and on the team he played on, I think its pretty amazing myself, but to each his own I suppose. I already know accuracy isn't TE's problem or intelligence, but the stupidity this organization has showed during his development damn sure is... However the main problem with Edwards is in his head and I don't know if it can be solved. I like having a smart QB who makes good decisions but at some point, you have to turn it loose. Fitz is a less talented QB than TE but he plays with fire and gets the ball down the field. At some point, you just got take some chances. I don't if Edwards will get out of his own head.
