And it's funny he brought up Stamford yet doesn't mention the NCAA Championship won at Troy. He also fails to mention the back to back division champs Dolphins where Gailey was the Oc that had a 22-10 record and then went 23-25 after he left. I guess positve Gailey stuff didn't fit his argument. You're right about Troy - they were 1984 Division II National Champions (but it was 1984???) As for the Dolphins -- he is not credited as being the Head Coach. I could have also mentioned 12-7-1 record as Head Coach of the Birmingham Fire (they lost in the playoff semifinals each year) -- but since the league went defunct their is no comparing before and after. Listen -- if you're happy with Gailey's achievements as 1984 Division II National Champions then great -- but I am simply putting his Head Coaching record out there. I think it is not very good. As for context -- sure the Cowboys were coming down for their Super Bowl years -- but they still play the games and his job was to coach what was out there. Georgia Tech (2002-2007) Gailey's Record: 44wins, 32 losses (avg/season 7 wins, 5 losses) 5 years prior to Gailey (1997-2001): GT was 41 wins, 18 losses (avg/season 8 wins, 4 losses) 2 years since Gailey (2008-2009): GT was 20 wins, 7 losses (avg/season 10 wins, 3 losses) Dallas Cowboys (1998-1999) Gailey's record: 18 wins, 14 losses (avg/season 9 wins, 7 losses) 5 years prior to Gailey (1993-1998): 52 wins, 28 losses (avg/season 10 wins, 6 losses) 10 years since Gailey (2000-present): 83 wins, 78 losses (avg/season 8 wins, 8 losses) Samford Bulldogs (1993) Gailey's record: 5-6 5 years prior to Gailey (1988-1992): 37 wins, 21 losses, 1 tie (avg/season 7 wins, 4 losses) 5 years after Gailey (1994-1998): 30 wins, 24 losses, 1 tie (avg/season 6 wins, 5 losses) In every case, the team Gailey coached was better before he got there and better after he left (you could argue the Cowboys are better now than when he left -- as there was the Campo mess in between). Your Cowboys numbers disprove it, but then you qualified it by saying you could argue they are better today 10 years later. You don't get how utterly ridiculous that is? Really? Right now those win/loss records are better than what we have had for 10 years. And he has always won more games than lost, so that is a big improvement from what we have now. Actually he's been in the playoffs 11 out of 14 years (including both years as a head coach), has a winning record in college and a NCAA championship.
