I know this trip may not sound like a good time for everyone but it was perfect for our crew. I'm already trying to think of an excuse to get back.

therein lies the rub when it comes to the big easy. that place is like crack. hit it up once, and you want some more

Sunday - Lunch at Cajun Mike's due to EndZoneCrew's recommendation. Wow, an interesting little hole in the wall. Decent oyster po boy and then found his "!@#$ the Dolphins" dollar on the ceiling. .

Sweet...so it was still there?

If you want to go to a very good restaurant away from the crowd of the French Quarter, I recommend Mandina's:

Try the Crab Fingers as an appetizer. I can also vouch for the pork chops, fried chicken and trout.

Terrific old bar (no stools)...at least before Katrina. I haven't been there since the re-opening.

No tourists here. You will see regular people from all over the city and you might bump into the mayor, professional athletes, musicians, etc.

Bring cash as they don't take plastic!

If your walking around the quarter and need a quick bite for lunch, you could do much worse than Coop's Place. I've never had a bad meal here. Great prices, real low key/laid back vibe. Try not to act like a tourist here:

Hot new restaurants come and go. K-Paul's goes on and on. Many years ago I was dragged here kicking and screaming, as it was a very hot restaurant and the lines were notoriously long. I got lucky and managed to get in with almost no wait. Now I make it a point to go back on every visit. Several of the best meals I have ever had were in this restaurant:

I haven't been to Nawlins since Katrina. I suppose things have changed, but these are the kind of places that tend to remain the same.

Just noticed you already went and came back. Oh well, maybe someone else is going and can use the info.

Glad you think so. It's been quite a while since my last visit. Writing that post made me very nostalgic. Time to go back...soon, I hope.

This menu has my mouth watering right now... That swordfish dish sounds incredible. Get me that with a bowl of jambalya to start things off. Wow.
