  1. Good stuff, Astro. The Chris Gragg stat is very encouraging, particularly since he was being billed as more of receiving threat than anything coming out of Arkansas.
  2. Left Guard - Although I think Brown has improved as camp has gone along, he is not as consistent as he needs to be and Legursky seems like no more than depth at this point. #2 CB - I'll be less concerned if McKelvin proves that he is healthy and ready to go, but if he is either injured or ineffective, no one has behind him has proven that they would be able to competently take over. Penalties - 23 in two games is simply too many. Anyone who says that they don't matter is either foolish, naive or both. They are drive killers and momentum killers. Ask the Raiders how it works out when you have double-digit penalties every game. On a side note, I am not worried AT ALL about Cordy Glenn. His play last year, combined with how he looked against a top-5 Defensive End in Jared Allen last week, tells me all I need to know.
  3. I recently moved to a street off Military near Elmwood and Delaware, two minutes from where this took place. The one thing I will say is that in the few months I've moved into this area, I am shocked at how many Tonawanda cops are rolling around these parts at any given time. It's incredible. You can't make a five minute trip anywhere without seeing at least one. It's not surprising at all where this happened. Not because of the cops being "Racist" (Which I do not know to be true or untrue) but because of the sheer volume of patrol cars out in the area at all times. If he really did have his window tints that dark, it was only a matter of time before 1 of the 30 cars patrolling 20 square miles of that neighborhood in the middle of the night was going to decide to pop the flashers on. Point being, stay the F*CK away from this area if you're doing anything illegal. Whether you're white, black, brown, green or orange.
  4. Other than Watt, I believe he is as well. There's a lot more to a great Defensive End than rushing the passer. A great run stopping Defensive End can be a game-changer, and that's what separates guys like Watt and Mario from the Dwight Freeneys of the world. Against a guy like Freeney, you run right at him. You can't do that with the other two.
  5. He had 10.5 sacks in his first year on a defense with a chicken sh*t scheme while dealing with an injury that required a procedure halfway through the season. Far too hasty to call him a "bust" IMO.
  6. I would drink their bath water with a silly straw.
  7. That is interesting. Did not see that stat. Just seemed to me from watching the game that Kolb was running it just as quickly as Manuel. Looks can be deceiving!
  8. I think Kolb has run the offense as fast as EJ, I think the difference is the effectiveness of how it's being run. They're both getting plays off very, very quickly. The difference is that EJ has been getting rid of the ball much faster (avg of 2.2 seconds per drop compared to 2.9 for Kolb according to PFF, which is significant). EJ has also been more accurate, composed in the pocket and is a threat to run the ball, which is the only way any type of zone read play will work. Point being - This offense will be fast no matter what, Manuel's efficiency makes the difference.
  9. CJ is a top-5 back in this league. You get him the ball as much as humanly possible. It doesn't matter how much better Fred gets as the game moves along. It's really a moot point.
  10. Cordy's play was very encouraging. I thought he showed very well last year, and being an offensive line guy, Marrone should really be able to maximize his abilities.
  11. - Since yesterday's news, a lot of the talk has been the worry over the possibility of Kevin Kolb seeing significant playing time. The biggest thing that I noticed about his play in this game is that he feels pressure that isn't there. "Happy feet" if you will. There were multiple times in this game where he had the opportunity to step up into a clean pocket and keep his eyes downfield, yet he continuously fled the pocket much too early. This is a big no-no for any quarterback, and really hamstrings the receivers. - Along these same lines, the offensive line had a very solid game. I'm starting to think that Colin Brown can play LG. I do think Hairston is superior to Pears though, and am anxious to have him back. - Everyone has talked about the game that Jerry Hughes had, and it is well deserved, but another linebacker that played a great game was Arthur Moats. He was quick to diagnose plays, consistently took on the blocker(s) and seemed very comfortable making the defensive calls in Kiko's absence. I feel very good about him as the backup middle backer going into the season. - Speaking of linebackers, both Blatnick and Dowtin played very well. I think they are both making this team. - I know there's a thread about it, but Searcy truly did look lost out there. Slow reactions. Out of position many times. He has some physical abilities, but it seems his football IQ is really lacking. "Surprise" cut. - Speaking of the secondary, Ron Brooks is a tough one to figure out. Sometimes he looks like the best tackling corner that we have, then he misses a gimme in the open field. Sometimes he is in perfect cover position, other times he is turned around and leaves his man wide open. It is really feast or famine with him. - Freddy looked better than the first game, was much more decisive. However it's becoming apparent that he has definitely lost some of the burst that he once had. There were a couple plays that he had an alley, and got a few yards when a couple years ago he may have gotten 10-12. That said, I am still very comfortable with him getting 5-10 carries a game. Capable backup to CJ. He is a great pass blocker and will still get you some tough yards. - Zach Brown really flashed in this game. He was decisive and finished runs. Good pad level. I am intrigued to see more of him. - The last note I made that really summarizes what I've liked from the first two preseason games is: "Proactive". That truly seems like it is what this team wants to do and they did it in this game. We're dictating the pace on offense (I got an average of about 22 seconds left on the play clock when the ball is snapped, which is incredible) and the defense is doing the same thing by bringing different pressure packages and forcing the quarterbacks to panic and abandon their progressions on a ton of pass plays. I'm very encouraged with this change in philosophy thus far. This is the way to attack the new NFL on both sides of the ball, and I'm glad that we are doing this as well as any other team in the league through two games. - 3 weeks until New England!
  12. The fact that they pay Skip Bayless for "analysis" not only on this topic, but any others, is an insult to sports commentators everywhere.
  13. Stephan A used Todd McShay's opinion of EJ to back up his own argument against him. That's all I needed to hear from that clown. More and more, it's the blind leading the blind at ESPN. NFL Network > ESPN any day of the week.
  14. If Brady is out, it isn't the craziest to think that EJ Manuel will be the best quarterback in the AFC East this year.
  15. Ha. Full disclosure, I'm using that to make fun of some of my own friends in the future. Asian people are hilarious.
  16. It's mid-August and I had my first Fall beer of the year last night. A nice Sad Adam's Octoberfest, one of my favorites. Fall beers are my favorite of the seasonal variety, and with the craft beer market exploding, I am sure there are many great ones out there that I haven't tried yet. Besides Sam Adam's version, some of my other favorite fall brews are Magic Hat HEX Ourtoberfest, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale and Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale. What are some of your favorite fall seasonal brews?
  17. I would consider Asomugha as well. There was once a time when he was a very good man-to-man corner. He was just lost playing zone in Philly. That being said, San Fran plays a lot of man-to-man, so if he can't stick there that isn't a good sign for where he's at in his career,
  18. Their starting quarterback is emerging from a "fair fight", and it is EJ Manuel. Tuel looked very good in the 2nd half against Indy's 3rd and 4th stringers, but the same cannot be said about his play against that of the Bills since camp opened. Manuel has done nothing but improve since day one of mini camp, culminating with that 2 minute drill on Sunday, and I believe (And I bet the coaches do too) that he will only continue to improve. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!
  19. Notice how 90% of the posters who spew this nonsense on a daily basis have about 100 posts to their credit? Newbs. One preseason half does not erase the fact that EJ, by almost all accounts, has been outplaying Tuel all training camp. It's as if EJ didn't play a very good game himself on Sunday. I don't get it.
  20. Love over/under season win totals bets. Did very well with them myself last season. My favorite ones this year are: Falcons under - I think their offensive line is going to be a big issue. Lots of question on defense. Very difficult division with Tampa Bay much improved on defense, Saints getting Payton back, and Panthers a tough out every week. Cincy over - I think they win the AFC North. Arguably the best defensive line in the NFL. Good coaching staff. Lot of talent on both sides of the ball. Green Bay over - I think the NFC North is very weak. Questions along the offensive line, but Aaron Rodgers can mask many of those problems. I think they get 11-12 wins and run away with that division. Jacksonville under - One of the worst rosters in the league. Tough division. Major questions at QB and all over defense. Kansas City over - I really like their roster as a whole. Andy Reid a very good coach. Will be much improved. I see 9-10 wins. NY Jets under - No quarterback or skill players on offense. Only thing that would scare me is that Rex Ryan is coaching for his job moving forward. Terrible roster outside of d-line. Oakland under - They will be picking #1 in the 2014 Draft. Worst roster in the league. Best player (McFadden) can't stay healthy. Will struggle to win 3 games. San Diego under - They may not be much better than Oakland. I think Denver and Kansas City sweep both of those teams. Rivers/Gates really regressing. Little talent on D outside of Weddle. Seattle over - Maybe the best roster in the NFL. Great offensive line and defensive lines. Huge home field advantage. Another year of maturity for Russell Wilson. Maybe the NFC Super Bowl rep. and finally...... Buffalo over - BECAUSE WE'RE BACK, AMERICA!
