CBS: Rex could be fired, TT benched Monday with loss
KOKBILLS replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good... -
I seriously doubt the Bills part ways with Rex...Not matter what I think about the guy, and I'm not a big fan, I think they intend on seeing this through... The deal with Rex is so frustrating to me...I get that cutting ties after two years, spinning the wheels again, is very possibly counter-productive...Especially short-term...At the same time I don't think anyone can assume it's going to get better under Rex either...Rex did not come in here and say that Bills would be decent defensively...He came in here and made comparisons to the 2000 Ravens D!!!...So he gets here...guns blazing...and completely blows up the scheme of a top 5 Defense... In year one we go from the best pass rush D to one of the worst...This past off-season he says now they have his system down and it will be fixed...The pass rush has improved this year, but otherwise it's still a pretty porous D at times...Even though this is Rex's 2nd year it still looks to me that this bunch is better suited to a 4-3 than a 3-4...Of course as long as Rex is here absolutely nothing will change scheme wise... They likely lose Gilmore next year...Not that he's worth top dollar, but it does create a big hole...Lorenzo Alexander, Zach Brown, Corey White, Corbin Bryant, and Douzable are all UFA's in 2017...Losing any of them bare minimum creates depth issues on Defense...The Bills need to build on what they have...A lot...Not subtract...I don't know...Hard to get overly optimistic...Rex has yet to impress with the talent he has...How is he going to do with less?

A 5-11 WR with knee injury history... He'll fit right in...
-
Agreed...As long as they Draft another QB by the 3rd Round...
-
I do think Whaley's comments...In a way...Point the finger at Rex and his staff...But I agree with Whaley's take for the most part...Sure the players are to blame...But I really don't think it has a lot to do with the overall talent...The Bills proved in those first 40 minutes they could stand toe to toe with that greatly talented Oakland team and come out ahead...They proved they could hang with Seattle's talent...I think you're over-estimating the talent differential between the teams...The Bills have all the talent they need to win...Except maybe at the QB position of course...You're right about that... The Bills wilt in games at times...But it's a strange wilt...They're 23rd in the league in 2nd Quarter points and 21st in the league in 4th quarter points...This is directly tied to Tyrod of course...I was taking a look at his splits...In the 4th Quarter of games where the Bills are +/- 7 points Tyrod is just terrible...42.1% completions, 2 TD's, 2 INTS, and a woeful 52.7 QB Rating...It's no surprise Tyrod's numbers are real poor in the 2nd and 4th quarters of games...And I think it can be assumed that is tied into coaching as well...Taylor has been excellent in the 1st quarter this year...And pretty good in the 3rd...In those 2 quarters combined this year he's thrown 7 TD's to only 1 INT...His QB rating is over 113 for the 1st Quarter and about 92 for the 3rd...So...When the Bills coaches have the whole week to prepare for the 1st quarter Tyrod is great...When they come out of the half and make adjustments it's good...But when the opponents counter-adjust in the 2nd and 4th he falls apart... The Defense on the other hand has struggled most in the 2nd and 3rd quarters when compared to other NFL teams...They're ranked 21st in 2nd quarter points allowed, and 23rd in 3rd quarter points allowed (at home they are the 3rd worst team in the NFL in points allowed in the 3rd quarter)...The Bills best quarter on D compared to the rest of the league? The 4th...Where they rank 11th in the NFL with an average of 5.5 points allowed...They are right in the middle of the NFL in 1st quarter points allowed ranked 16th (though they are 31st in this category at home...next to worst in the league)... There's really no question when you look at the quarter breakdowns for this team, and Tyrod, that Whaley has a solid point...This team is up and down like a roller coaster on Offense and Defense...There are some REAL inconsistencies...So when he says they need to play well for the full 60 minutes...I think he's dead on...

We'll see...Should be interesting...I have this inclination to believe not picking up the option will automatically mean they are moving on...But who knows? -
Regarding the general direction of the Bills and Doug Whaley
KOKBILLS replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Meh...I don't care what he said surrounded by his new owner/boss and Brandon...I don't believe all of it...The same way I did not believe all of it when he talked about Shaq's shoulder...He's a company man first and foremost...And a good one at that...He gains nothing by showing anything other than a unified front... Don't get me wrong, I don't think he was vocally against it at all either...That would be a stupid career move and Whaley's not an idiot...I just think if it was his decision, and his alone, no way Rex is here...There was some seriously shaky logic in the Rex hire from a football standpoint...Especially concerning the differences in the solid Defense Whaley had built, and the one Rex likes to run...And Doug is a football guy...Pegula and Brandon not so much... I think Pegs was blown away with Rex and they all went along for the ride... -
I pretty much agree with your take on Chad...Not to say that he's the next great thing, but I don't even think he's a boom or bust type...I think his upside is really, really good because of his competitive nature and love for the game...And I think his downside will be somewhere in the Fitzpatrick range, probably a bit better because his arm is better... Chad's going to need some work for sure...It's going to depend...And most of it is going to depend on him...His approach, his attitude day in and day out...And how hard he's willing to work for it...He's going to have to land in the right spot, with the right coach, and reign in that gunslinger mentality just a little bit...I do think the Bills are a perfect fit for Kelly because they already have a strong running game and deep threats at WR...If Chad does get in there, we'll never have to worry about having a QB that will not give Sammy a chance to make plays all over the field, that's for sure... I rarely get high on QB prospects anymore...Too many busts...It's tiring...And in the analysis of Chad I constantly have to fight the fact that his Uncle and Godfather is my hero...But I like Chad a lot...I think he's going to be better than a lot of people do...I don't want to say which QB he reminds me of most...Because people will think I'm nuts...But I do want the Bills to Draft him...And I really don't care where they take him either...

We Should Pick Up the Option on Tyrod No Matter What
KOKBILLS replied to a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there is logic in that take... I just doubt Tyrod and his agent will agree...Fitz got $12 mil with the chance to bump that to $15 mil...I think if it's a re-do, one year thing, TT's agent will want at least that...And I'm guessing the Jets figure that $12 mil was better spent elsewhere now... -
We Should Pick Up the Option on Tyrod No Matter What
KOKBILLS replied to a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed... It's such huge money and implication on the cap... If TT had shown me just a little ability late in games when we needed a score over these 26 games...If he showed me command of the hurry up and just a little ability to throw receivers open I would definitely pause...But I don't see it in him...I see an excellent scrambling QB who is slow to process and literally the opposite of clutch...The bigger the moment, the more he wilts...I think he is what he is...He'll get most teams to somewhere around .500...If everything is perfect around him I think he can get you to the Playoffs...But everything has to be PERFECT... The way I see it Tyrod has already had all the opportunities he needed to earn that option...Seattle and Oakland alone would have the Bills in a great position to make the Playoffs right now...They lost the Baltimore, Miami, and Jets games by a combined 15 points...He's had all the opportunity in the world to be the star...He did not get it done...And I don't see any logic in rewarding him when we have no idea if he'll ever take the next...and most necessary step... -

Regarding the general direction of the Bills and Doug Whaley
KOKBILLS replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hated the Sammy trade...Not because I disliked Sammy...I just don't believe in trading up like that...And if it was my pick that year, and the Bills did trade up, I would have taken Evans over Watkins...I thought Mike Evans was the best WR in that Draft class...Turns out there was one even better...But Whaley traded up, gave up a 1 and a 4 for (arguably) the 3rd best...Ouch... My main problem with Whaley is his willingness to trade Draft picks instead of collecting them...I hate that...It's a philosophy thing with me...The Bills are without a 4th this year because of it...I don't like giving up Draft picks... Other than that though I think Whaley has done OK...The Ragland injury REALLY hurt this year...Two 4th's to move up 8 spots...God I hate it...That 4th in 2016...117 overall...That was Dak Prescott right there...The Bills could have had him...But Whaley gave that 4th away to trade up for a LB who missed the whole season...Ouch again... I've never faulted them for the EJ pick because they traded down...got the extra pick...which turned out in a crazy way to be Shady... That's good Draft strategy...Just turned out EJ, like a million QB's before him, could not cut it... Good things happen when you get more picks...IMHO at least... -

KOKBILLS replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have bigger problems than Whaley...Much bigger problems... And I have absolutely no evidence to back this up...No one has told me anything about this...But I'll continue to believe till my dying day if the HC decision had been Whaley's alone to make there is no way Rex Ryan would be the Bills HC today...That's what my gut tells me...I could certainly be wrong...But I doubt it... -

You pretty much expertly nailed Tyrod's deficiencies as an NFL QB in one sentence... Well done Sir! -

There is absolutely no way anyone could convince me that TT is worth that kind of Cap gamble...No way...He's just not good enough to risk it... -
Crazy off season moves that will get us in playoffs
KOKBILLS replied to Franchiseneedsme's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I enjoy the Draft...Even though you're right...It seems like the Draft is our yearly highlight around here...Which is definitely sad... But good grief...I've been around here since the beginning...TBD is my home...I know there is plenty of football knowledge still around here...But when I see multiple suggestions of re-signing Fitz, I know it's time for a vacation... -

Wow! Great College player...Remember him well... RIP -
Did anyone really think the Bills would be up 24-9 more than midway through the 3rd Quarter and seemingly be in total control of the game? It's not so much that they lost...It's that they completely blew a totally winnable game when they had it...They had it...A couple sustained drives on Offense...Almost any points for the rest of the game and they win it...They mainly needed to take time off the clock with a few 1st downs...But they gagged...Well...Mostly the QB gagged...But still... I mean...If you want to take the Rex route and just praise Oakland like they are the 78 Steelers and seemingly unbeatable, than I hear you...We had no business winning there...Those massive giants of the NFL who have one of the worst Defenses in then league..Yet...They managed to completely shut us out, when we had been moving the ball well most of the game, and outscore us 29-0 in the final 20 minutes...3 and outs, two turnovers, and not much Defense for the last 20 minutes...That was a joke...That should basically never happen in the NFL...At least not to a team that expects their fans to hope for the Playoffs... Faith? That was gone long ago...Over a decade ago...It's mostly disdain now for this bunch of chokers and their self-proclaimed Defensive genius of a HC...And mostly disdain for the chokers that came before them...Can't step up and beat a good team when they have them on the ropes...Year, after year, after year, after year of losing winnable games and "We'll get em' next year..." No...Faith is long gone...I'm stuck with them...Almost 50 years as a fan now...But I don't have to be blind...And I definitely don't have to accept it... I believe the statistical chances of the Bills making the Playoffs right now sits at about 10%...They grow to a little less than 30% if they beat Pittsburgh...I swear I'm not trying to be a jerk about this (I'm just a realist), but I think any Playoff talk at this point is basically the equivalent of a fantasy, wrapped in a pipe-dream...The Bills don't even belong in the Playoff picture...They are not good enough...They have beaten one good team...Of course that one good team was starting their 3rd sting injured QB...Other than that they have won 5 games against teams with an average of 3.2 wins so far this year...Playoffs?...

A Third party observation of Yesterday..
KOKBILLS replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's a fair point...But I think you're missing the obvious...Stepping over the dollar to grab the dime...If we had a QB that could consistently execute the plays called...A QB who could make the simple throws to keep the chains moving, especially on 3rd down...A QB who could process at an NFL level...A lot of the second thinking on formations and play calling would be completely unnecessary... The problem with wondering about things like getting Shady one-on-one out of the slot, or isolated out of the backfield, is there has to be an assumption that Tyrod will get him the ball...in stride...Taylor has not show that kind of consistency with any of the Bills receivers...So more than likely if they ran the play, and Shady got open, the ball would come to him high and wide...Or even more likely Tyrod would not see him, scramble to the perimeter, and throw the ball away if he can't run for a 1st down... -
