I expect him to break at least one very long run. He represents a real change of pace form the physical running styles of McGahee and Henry. If he finds a gap in the line, he will be gone. Don't get me wrong--I'd much rather have McGahee in there. But for this game at least, I think Williams is a good fill-in.

If we get in....who does everyone think....
Dr. K replied to CentralVaBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we're going to have to catch the Jets, if we make it at all. Of course, who knows how all this will play out. I just want to see the Bills beat SF and the Steelers. -
. . . if the Jets lose their last two. I'm afraid the Jags are going to win out. But, after blowing this game against the Fins, the Pats are going to be up for this game against the Jets. I think it's more likely Denver and Baltimore will lose one more than for the Jags to lose one. So assuming the Bills beat the 49ers, we may come down to the last week needing to beat the Steelers and hoping for the Rams to somehow pull themselves together and edge the Jets. At least, given the pathetic play in the NFC, the Rams should still be in the playoff hunt and have something to play for.

So I want to know how the Jags developed the cloak to make this DB Mathis invisible to Brett Favre....

I can't stand this. Bills need some help!

...As long as he skinned, dressed and ate it afterwards.

Ted Nugent as kicker? What has he done since "Cat Scratch Fever"? Besides, he'd probably shoot the mascot with a bow and arrow.

I was never one of the ones calling for TD's head, though I had my doubts about some of his moves. But stuff like this confirms that guys like me, anyway, don't know enough to make meaningful comments. Wiley, fir instance--I was distressed when the Bills let him get away. I figured he was just coming into his own as a DE, after three years, and would be a solid performer if not a star. I guess San Diego and Dalls thought so too, Boy were we wrong. TD was right. Same with Cowart, whom I also waqs distressed to see go. I was never a huge Peerless Price fan, so that one didn't bother me so much. The point is, however, that building and managing a team is a complex business that involves a dozen different skills--drafting, talent evaluation, cap management, hiring coaches, etc. etc. I could question other TD moves--I thought he was cavalier about how hard it is to get a first rate FG kicker, and I never was a Gregg Williams man--but the fact is, TD is a solid general manager and perhaps much better than solid. He will take chances and sometimes they don't work out, but he's shrewd and steady and it seems to finally be paying off. In fact, the one bad mistake he made with the Bills was to hire GW. Subtract that one and it's hard to reasonably fault him on other decisions, even when they haven't worked out. And even that decision can be seen as his rolling the dice on a first-rate successful defensive coordinatior with the hope that he might pay off big, rather than hiring some retread head coach who was a known quantity. He did the same thing with M Mularkey, which considering the result with GW is an amazingly ballsy move. Yet on this one it seems to be paying off. I think a lot of people on the board owe TD some kudos, and some slack. Though there's still a long way to go with this team.

Have you read the original books? Dahl's kids' books have a rels streak of hostility and violence in them--it's what makes them interesting, in my opinion. He does not idealize childhood. So Burton's version is likely to have that aspect too. The best Dahl movies I know of are _James and the Giant Peach_, and _The Witches_. Both of them have that Dahl creepiness.

I still remember a game from a few years back where Kitna ripped us to shreds--he was still playing for the Seahawks back then. And he played well last year. I wouldn't count on the Bengals being less effective with him at QB.

He looked great in preseason too, for what it's worth.

What a great defensive game. This defense is starting to look monstrous. The turnovers! I don't remember a stretch of so many in such a short time even in the Super Bowl years. I'm still not confident in Lindell's field goal kicking. I hope they don't ever come down to depending on him to make a long one to win a game. I always had faith in Christie in these situations, not so Lindell I thought Shaud Williams showed a lot in pre-season, and I'm glad to see him play so well when he got the chance. I seems the quickest runner on the team, though he's small and won't break many tackles. I think he does offer a good change of pace from Willis. I think he has aq future on this team I'd like to see if he can catch passes as well. I'm bummed that the Ravens and Broncos won. We really need those teams to start losikng or we have no chance. Bledsoe was off target on many passes, but it didn't matter: this is the thing that makes me freel the best about the Bills right now. They can overcome a poor game from Bledsoe as long as he doesn't lose it all by himself with turnovers and terrible decisions. This is the most complete bills team in years. It sure is fun watching these new Bills. I want to see them in the playoffs, where they will put a scar into whoever they face, but I'm determined to enjoy the games as the come regardless.

I agree completely. I've seden all of these. He can be completely different from movie to movie: his pathetic character in Boogie Nights is completely different from the rich jerk he plays in The Talented Mr. Ripley, which is completely different from his version of Lester Bangs in Almost Famous, and the male nurse in Magnolia. Great actor. I did not know he was from Rochester.

Get a Honda, new or used. I've owned five over the last twenty-five years. All of them had great service records. I went off the reservation in 1999 and bought a Volkswagon Passat. Great car to drive, but LOUSY LOUSY maintainence record. The thing could not go 10K miles wihtout some major problem. Stick with the Japanese.

What do you want to learn this weekend?
Dr. K replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I want to see the Bills put away the Browns the way the Patriots would on their own home field. That would tell me they have become a truly good team. The Bills don't have to blow them out, but they need to control the game and take care of business. This is not a "play-on-emotion" game but the kind of game a good team must win. -
(OT) So Where IS This Untaxed Paradise ?
Dr. K replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, right. Try Alabama or Mississippi. Low taxes. Lousy schools. Lousy services. Low life expectancy. Taxes are the price you pay for a civilized society. This probably ought to be moved to the politics board, so we can ignore it better. -
My sister works in the county budget office. She says Giambra is the most coprrupt politician she has ever seen. I don't live in Buffalo anymore, and there are probably other reasons for this mess too, but government isn't the problem so much as corruption and incompetence in government.

Campbell AND Euhus done for the year?!
Dr. K replied to nodnarb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this report is screwed up. I don't think Euhus is out for the season--Campbell is. Reports are Euhus will start for Campbell Sunday. -
One football thing you were DEAD ASS wrong about
Dr. K replied to bartshan-83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought Gabe Northern could play. I thought RJ could play. I thought letting Cowart go was a huge mistake. And for all you old folks out there.... I thought Dennis Shaw would be a hall of famer. -

Is Mike Williams injured, too? How seriously?

This talk about Henry's worthlessness ("When he went out all I worried about was losing a 4th round draft choice from next year") is just another example of the manichean (look it up) way some Bills fans treat any player on the team. Either they are godlike and can walk on water, or they are total merde. There is no in-between. There is no concept of better or worse, it is all or nothing. Because McGahee is better than Henry and has forced Henry to the bench, then Henry is a piece of crap player and no better than Joe Burns, and probably worse. Good riddance to Henry! Every time he carries the ball he falls down! This is ludicrous, but actually kind of amusing, if you can step back from it. Sort of like your six-year-old's opinion of the relative worth of Skeletor vs. She-Woman.

That's pretty weird, you and me posting the same movie at exactly the same time at widely different places across the country. Welcome to the Twilight Zone.

Paths of Glory, directed by Stanley Kubrick, starring Kirk Douglas
