  1. Gotta give credit where it's due - not just for Streisand, but for a lot of the Hollywood left. Many of them are brilliant actors and singers, but like you say - once they stop acting/singing/whatever and start talking, then they completely lose me. And to be honest, I don't like listening to politics of any kind from entertainers. Just because they're in the entertainment business doesn't give them any extra credibility in my view, and if I want to listen to political opinion, there's all kinds of places to get it without listening to entertainers spouting their often-idiotic views.
  2. The Hollywood left always says that, no matter who the republican candidate is. Streisand, Sarandon, Baldwin, Penn - just thinking that they'll all go somewhere like Cuba keeps me voting republican every cycle.
  3. It's surprising to see how many people are showing sympathy for him, comparing his perversion to an addiction. I wonder how many of those people would feel the same way if he was sexting their spouse or children?
  4. Ah, babes and guns - that almost passes for porn in this neck of the woods.
  5. 1) Good answer! 2) UT isn't allowing open carry - I don't know if any colleges or universities do. https://campuscarry.utexas.edu/ Hey, this way they at least get to hold one for once in their lives.
  6. Dean of students at the University of Chicago says in a letter to freshmen: "Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called trigger warnings, we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial and we do not condone the creation of intellectual safe spaces where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own," https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016/08/29/u-chicago-letter-new-students-safe-spaces-sets-intense-debate
  7. You can at UT Austin. They had a student protest over it last week. Female students against campus carry were packing various types of phallic-shaped marital aids in protest. It was extremely amusing. Sorry about the wisecrack - it was an easy set up. No offense meant.
  8. I wonder who the first politician or media personality is going to be to accuse her of being a racist?
  9. They did cover a lot of characters and events in last night's episode though - more than they usually do. The only major characters besides Dutch that they didn't show were the Silver Angel and old man Palmer. I have to say that for someone who's apparently ruined relationships with his drinking, Eff seems to function quite well with a bottle in hand.
  10. It's things like this that make me realize how naive I can be at times. I'm all for supporting business and industry, but not this kind of crap. I can just see a school cafeteria version of that scene right now. There has to the hand of government in there somewhere allowing this scenario to occur. This is one of those things that while apparently legal, strike me as being extremely unethical, and we wouldn't have a situation like this if true market forces were able to be put into play. Or so it seems to me anyway.
  11. Don't be obtuse. I'm not talking about the Klan from 50 years ago. Their motivation is still hate, but they've adopted a pro-separatist stance. The rioters weren't wearing hoods. Other than that, I see little difference.
  12. Epinephrine has been around for years, yet Mylan still holds the patent. From what I understand, they'll retain that patent for another nine years or so. How can they hold a patent for so long? It usually takes what - seven years (?) before generic versions of a drug become available. It looks a lot like Mylan has some kind of sweet deal allowing them exclusive ownership of epinephrine, preventing competition from bringing costs down.
  13. I was surprised to see ABC running this: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/senator-joe-manchin-questions-epipen-pricing-company-daughter/story?id=41644437
  14. Different methods? Yes. Same results? Absolutely. Or is racism only racism when it's violent or aggressive? I would pay money to see that.
  15. This is the first time I've ever heard the term "broasted" - it sounds like something frat boys do.
  16. "At the end of the day......".
  17. I wonder how long it will be before the proponents of campus segregation realize that they're essentially in agreement with the KKK?
  18. And he apparently doesn't get many lady visitors.
  19. I get my electric savings beginning around October/November through March/April. I believe last January was around $60. This time of the year is different - my drive home takes approximately 30 minutes, and the AC in my truck will be just about starting to cool by the time I get home. I despise the heat, but the last 3 winters spent in Buffalo ('80, '81, and '82) I was a laborer in an apartment complex with 242 units, each with a sidewalk that needed to be shoveled nearly every day. I'd be willing to move inside a volcano rather than live with snow again.
  20. If AC had never been invented, Texas never would have met my pale ass. I made sure to get a decent-paying job, so I can afford the $350.00+ electric bills for running the AC in my apartment all summer long. I keep it so cold at night that I sleep under a sheet, a comforter, and a blanket, and it's worth every dime spent. My sunglasses fog over every morning when I leave to go to work.
  21. Um, I believe his point was that it's a bad idea to assume a defiant posture (ie red line in the sand) if everyone knows that you're not going to back it up. In other words, Obama should have just kept his mouth shut. Not everyone on the American right is a jingoist, for your information. You need to let go of those antiquated stereotypes.
  22. Hey, you are what you eat, you d@ck.
