C'mon - are you really relying on college stats to prove the guy's worth as an NFL QB? You're not going to account for the wide-open system in which Smith plays, or the fact that he's had the luxury of throwing to 2 NFL-caliber WRs? If we're just going to look at college stats, then why didn't Timmy Chang, Colt Brennan and Case Keenum flourish in the NFL? FYI, Smith, Colt Brennan and Case Keenum had better college numbers than Luck, RGIII, Peyton Manning and Brees. Do you think that Smith handles adversity well? Do you think that he's a good leader? Do you think that he plays his best when it matters the most? Do you think that he scans his reads well?

racists? I think that most Smith backers are fixated on his performance in WVU's non-conference, cream puff schedule. He's been far from impressive since then. I've been consistent with my opinion of Smith....wasn't fan in September, and I'm not a fan now.

Even if the pick is, say, #7 overall? Personally, I'd love a trade down, to the mid-late teens/early 20s. Pick up an extra pick or 2, if possible. Grab a couple of LBs, a QB, C/OT, WR and S.

he's had some teams that get better as the season progresses, and some that peak in November/December (like 2 years ago, for example). I don't think that the comparison to 2003 is fair, for one simple reason: Melo. There is nobody on this year's squad that has an offensive skillset remotely close to Melo, circa 2003. While Forth/McNeil didn't have a low post game, Warrick did. And Forth was really, really solid defensively.

on a somewhat related note, I saw on one of the pre-game shows yesterday that Marc Ross, the Giants' Director of College Scouting, is a leading candidate for the Panthers' GM job. Ross used to be a college scout for the Bills.
