  1. Oh please, if RJ was half the QB Losman is - we wouldn't still be drowning in our beer...Losman isn't a world beater - but gawd he isn't RJ. C
  2. Congrats JfH - 7000 - I feel like a slacker ;-) I don't know, John - seems to me some positions more than other rely on coaching. So for example, I think defensive players - maybe LBs in particular. Can pretty much translate their college abilities to the pros really well. The learning curve doesn't seem as steep. But for WRs, I think next to QBs and OL on offense, their learning curve is pretty steep. RBs probably have the biggest impact as rookies. These guys relied on their athleticism in HS, College whatever and only the guys who are students of the game and are willing to put in the study time, seem to be on an accelerated development pace. The classic I think is Moulds. He did nothing for 3 years...3 years and I remember Marv being frustrated with him. Then a light goes on. There are exceptions - Moss for example. But he had freakish talent and I think the rest of the NFL never really found a way to neutralize it - if he *wanted* to play. There are I think guys in the NFL - who can only be defeated by themselves. Not many of those are in the WR group. Don't know if that answers your question. I really like how Sweed plays over Kelly. He just seems to be at a different speed than everybody else. But I must confess I've only seen his highlight reel with a rock track behind it. So I might be biased. IMHO, the most complete receiver I've ever seen out of college (and I haven't followed the game very long) is Rod Smith from Denver. With Hines Ward a close second. But that's only because I think Smith contributed almost immediately. All things being equal I'd take the defensive player, if it was a position of need. C
  3. Watch them go after him with a 5 yr/50 mil offer...
  4. I don't know...besides McCardell and Smith in the first years under Coughlin - what other incredible receivers have the JAgs had. Most of us have a man crush on Wilford. But truth be told he is barely above average. I think the WR coaching in Jag world is suspect. I don't know if Jones coming here will be that much better. Tolbert hasn't impressed me much. But I think if Jones went to somewhere where they have good receiver coaching say, AZ, NE or NY, he could realize his potential. C
  5. Depending on the deal, I was thinking the same thing. It's not like he's a bum. I'd sign him to slightly above vet minimum and incentives. C
  6. Also one other thing - I don't think we've had really good talent scouting since Dwight Adams and AJ left. Likewise in our pro dept. WTF is John Guy being paid to do?
  7. I like Whitner a lot but I have to agree here. We could sure use someone like a Ngata now. Just see how much energy and resources we're expanding trying to shore up our run game. I don't think it was a dumb move necessarily, just not very prudent. I really, really think Marv panicked once Huff was gone. C
  8. Hmm...tell that to Will Wolford. Cutler was the SEC Player of the Year but I think he'll still be finding his feet. The guy we need to be concerned with Travis Henry. He'll want to light it up. C
  9. I don't know - in terms of our biggest need - stopping the run. This doesn't do anything. Walker is a journeyman. Depth perhaps. But a great trade? We'll have to wait and see.
  10. FWIW, Whitner didn't visit and Ngata did last year...Smokescreen if you ask me...
  11. Can you imagine what would've happened if RJ had a bursa problem?
  12. I still don't get the whole fascination with taking a RB in the 1st round. Unless of course, Peterson drops which I just can 't see happening. Then I think it's a discussion. Thurman was a second round back. Henry was a second round back. Turner in Chicago was a 5th rounder. I just don't see us taking a RB at 12. I think the pick at 12 is gonna be a DT/LB/CB. You can't have too many DLs in our version of the Cover 2. And yes, we need some beef in the middle. Enough of these small, fast DLs. Yeegads...
  13. Man, I really think we need to get big in the middle of our D. DT and MLB positions worry me. I think we need to get Okoye/Willis/Branch or someone similar in the first round. As for drafting RBs - I think our scouting dept had better come thru in the later rounds. I would also call the Chargers before our pick in the 2nd round and see if they'll ship Turner to us for that pick. No one in their right mind is gonna give up a 1st *and* 3rd for a RB. No matter how good he is. C
  14. I agree regarding Ian Scott. I think Robaire Smith would be a fine addition. But I think he's waiting for the Titans to come around... C
  15. Yee Gads, good thing we have some beef on the O-line now...What?
  16. That is very wrong...
  17. I don't get the whole Randy Starks thing. I see him play here with the breasts. He's OK. Robaire Smith is a much better player and he is currently a FA. C
  18. Tell me where I said he was gonna be our featured back, oh mister with all the answers. All I said was that he'd be a great pickup. Leonard and Thomas in the backfield will give opposing Ds something to think about. If you can't see that, I'm not the one who is clueless... C
  19. I'd be surprised if Leonard lasted past the 2nd. Two back to back picks in the running game just isn't a good strategy IMHO. Leonard could be a slash type player ie. RB/FB/TE. Plus he actually already knows how to block. I suspect this draft is gonna be OL/DL heavy though if a DB falls far past his value spot, I just don't see this franchise passing him up. They just can't help themselves. That being said, if we pick up Okoye or a good solid LB (like Willis or Polutzny) in the first, a good value OT or RB in the second, I think I'd be happy. If we do get a 2nd for Baby Poppa McG, I'll be ecstatic if our draft when something like this: 1st round) Branch/Okoye/(after trading down)Grubbs/Willis/Posluzny/Brown 2nd round) Leonard/Blalock or Ramirez/solid WR or RB C
  20. I'd like to see us pick up Brian Leonard from Rutgers if it's the second round. He may not fit the trad. mold of a RB - more of a FB body type. But dang, the kid can do it all. He's not gonna out run anybody - but if we need a yard or two there's no stopping him. He makes his own holes...He's also a high character guy.
  21. Hey John, You're welcome. I would still try to find somebody who has a reliable recommendation for whom to see at Loma. Unless you already have a reference. C
  22. I don't care if Armageddon is scheduled for Tuesday. If there's a brand new House MD episode on, my wife and I Tivo it and watch. It's writing and acting is phenomenal. Beats the crap out of Grey's. Though the music on Grey's is cool. My wife is addicted to that too....
  23. John, I'm not a med professional. My wife is a PA but not ortho. I think BillsFanMD has given you some great advice. I think you're doing everything reasonably possible. So don't take this the wrong way. Not every doctor is created equal. Your son's injury doesn't sound unusual. Your doctor's experience dealing with the issue may be. I would talk to your social or sports network and see who has a good reputation and take your son there. Don't you live in the San Diego area? I would call UCSD's Sports Medicine Dept. and ask if they know of anyone in your area who could give you an informed second opinion. There might be other college/university medical centers in your area. I would research their faculty and call or email for references or advice. Faculty like to talk.;-) I work in a Med Ctr. For some health issues I wouldn't go anywhere else. For others, I would go to the competitor across town. We had our baby delivered at the cross town hospital. It's just a matter of institutional experience and focus. Plus, you don't take a thoroughbred to the local pet clinic... Good luck. Charles
