Hackett not properly using Spiller & Jackson
The Big Cat replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cop out? Shall I list all the college sensations that didn't about to diddly **** in the NFL? How in gods name is that a defense of Spiller's "talent?" "Good talent" should be able to run between the mother !@#$ing tackles, dude. Come on. And AGAIN what evidence is there, when the line and Spiller struggle to execute BASIC plays, that "creative" ones are the sudden cure-all? -

That's clear when Kyle Orton is on a 16 game pace for 4800 yards, 24 TDs and 16 picks. Face it, if CJ needs his own special game plan to be above average (even when he had it in 2012 he still wasn't the world beater revisionists would have you believe he was), then he's simply not that good of a RB. And oh yes, while we're making a habit of repeating things, here's something that needs to be talked about more: the Bills wanted Carlos Hyde...badly. Why do you suppose that was? -

Yes if a pro running back doesn't have it in him do something as BASIC as run between the tackles it's the OC's fault. How is it that Bills fans can't understand the disconnect between railing on the "Pop Warner" scheme and giving the players' a pass for being unable to execute it? -

And while I'm all for tailoring your the scheme to your talent, the ask in this case shouldn't be as tall of an order as CJ makes it seem. Why are Bills fans letting him off the hook as if the run between the tackles is such an exotic concept? -

Spiller can't use himself well. He's just not that good. -

I'm just about done with Marrone and Hackett

It's highly debatable. -
This was far from a Derrick Dockery situation. But the signing did virtual nothing for this team in need of better guard play.

Tires kicked. Let's not elevate him to Maybin status just because this injury has been nagging him since August.

mikerodak 11:30am via Cloudhopper Jeff Tuel in full Tom Brady mode today. Ankle tape, socks, wristband, glove on left hand. Takes that scout team thing to a new level. -
Not so bad if you're taking a little golf trip to Phoenix...

That's fine right up until the part where he'll expect to be paid like one. -

Flash to Marrone: Spller up the middle dosen't work
The Big Cat replied to rcatty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's an awful comparison. Charles is a substantially better running back, not thanks to his OC. He's a substantially better running back because he's a substantially better running back. Period. He has WAY better patience, lets his blocks develop, sets up his blocks and knows how to burst through a gap. He has Freddly like vision and anticipation and he's nearly as fast as Spiller. -

Chip Kelly started coaching when Hackett was 11. Payton when he was 9. Combined, they have 16 more years coaching than Hackett has on this planet. Concede that they're better? I'm fine with that. -

Uh...their offense has been terrible the last three games. They've been getting all their points from defense and special teams. Also Foles is in his third year. -

Fine, let's find numbers to justify a qualitative trait. Meanwhile, those of us who watch the games would agree: Spiller is no Sproles. Sproles is PHENOMENAL at setting up blocks. He cuts with authority and his lateral quickness puts CJ's to shame. I'm well aware, however, that none of these observations are valid in absence of a PFF metric. -

Firstly, wtf does the bolded have to do with...ANYTHING? Secondly, I already answered your first question. Hackett put together winning game plans last year with Tuel, Lewis and Manuel. THIS year, against some of the best defenses in the league, through five games, he's done the same. I get that because we don't have the mobile interior line to run non-stop screen and pitch plays to CJ he should be fired and all, but for you to say he hasn't put the offense (AS A WHOLE) in a position to succeed...well, that's just completely !@#$ing false. -

What's more common? A score of 35-3? Or a score of 35-20? What's more common? A score of 35-3? Or a score of 17-13? I'll wait for you to get back to me. -
Simple. They don't want to craft the offense around CJ. Gailey did and that was nice for him. Gailey also used his first franchise draft pick to get him and it still took until half way through Spiller's second year for the offense--designed to feature him--worked for him. So now they're trying to use Spiller to do basic things. Hello. The things Spiller fails to do are hardly world-class. Yet, as Mr. Rags ( ) points out, Spiller lacks some very basic skills which limit his ability to execute very basic things. Folks have been saying since 2010 that Spiller lacks patience and vision. And guess what, five years into his career and the same critiques abound. So why is he still playing? Because nobody, not fans, coaches, team mates or anybody doubts Spiller's potential. And as it is, his potential trumps the shortcomings of Boobie and Brown. Spiller is being phased out. The sooner Bills fans accept this reality, the sooner we'll all be happier! It doesn't take a special kind of body type and skill set to see/hit a damn hole on a dive play. This excuse is preposterous.

We've seen this trend so many times, I'm shocked that fans don't eventually get hip to it. If your only argument to support a player/coach is to make excuses about it being the fault of all the other players/coaches...then the player/coach just isn't that effective. -

Specifically what production are you referring to? Under Gailey, the Bills ranked 28th, 14th and 21st in points...with an historically bad defense. Also, the sudden-fondness for Gailey's offense has been something I've been criticizing for last year. There's some serious revisionist history going on whenever fans gush about how great Gailey's offense was and how much everyone loved it. It wasn't and they didn't.
