  1. This does sound like a Rex way of thinking. Been wondering if this isn't true. It would also blow up all of the crap the media has been throwing at EJ. Thinking about it, no other team would expect EJ to start either. Just seems he is playing his cards close to the vest so he can surprise everyone with the announcement game 1.
  2. EJ moved from playing 3rd to 2nd in this last game. It will be interesting to see when he plays in the next game. And we'll probably have some clues coming from training camp. EJ was getting 2nd string reps all of last week. He may get some 1st string reps in practice this week. And, he'll need to perform well if he wants to start against Pittsburgh. Just speculating of course, but leading the team to two leads late in the game in consecutive weeks is pretty hard to ignore.
  3. It was 86 up here in Potsdam at 10AM. Now well over 90. Also he has sickle cell which causes body to overheat easily. Should be fine when temps drop this fall.
  4. I could be wrong but I think the IK pickup originally was planned for depth. He could have been relegated to the practice squad until next year. Now? Who knows.
  5. This is what I am seeing too, however Taylor has made some deep throws too. Not so much in this game but I think he throws deep fairly well even if he does have to wind up like a pitcher to get it there. EJ on the other hand seems to just flick the ball and it goes deep down field. I was listening to a commentator talking about play action and Matt Cassel. He seemed to think that he does it as well as anyone, but I think EJ is better. He was talking about how the run game opens up the play action pass. EJ seems to be money on those deep play action passes following a run. And he does it often enough to warrant a second look and to give a defense pause. Consistency is his biggest issue. Often the consistency seems to often point to those around him, like the bad snaps and receivers dropping passes. Though even if these things happen more often when EJ is in there, that does not look good. I don't really buy into the train of thought that EJ isn't being given enough of a chance like some. I do think that he has had more bad luck. That is enough to give a coach pause. He'll still get his reps. Maybe the coach is saving him for the last couple of preseason games for a reason? I really think EJ can be very good. Question is which QB is going to win the most games now. I don't think I can answer that just yet. If one of the QBs doesn't significantly pull ahead in this race, it's going to be a tough decision. I am just excited seeing a mix of plays being called by the OC. I'm seeing runs and passes mixed nicely and a lot more diversity than I'm used to seeing from a Bills offense. Whoever the QB is this year, I don't think we are going to have to suffer through unimaginative play calling. Personally, I think Buffalo would squash Carolina in a regular season game with EJ or Tyrod. Although, those big receivers seemed to give our DBs some trouble. Matt seemed to be efficient until it came time to close the deal and actually score. All in all, for a preseason game, the team as a whole looked pretty good. We have some time, but the clock is ticking. Time to start separating the men from the boys.
  6. It was obvious that Taylor looked the best in this game IMHO. That doesn't necessarily mean he is the clear winner over all. I am good with the competition being undecided. Next game, Taylor will play with the ones against the ones. The following game, maybe we'll see EJ with the ones. There is not a clear winner yet. Taylor did well, but he now needs to follow that with another strong performance. If he does, he could very well separate himself as a clear winner. We'll see. I'm still rooting for EJ. I'd like to see him bounce back. Even Cassel. I'd prefer going in with two young guys out performing the "wily veteran" though. I want a long term answer at QB. Still work to be done, but he might actually be on the current roster. Give him some reps and see where it goes.
  7. He had some good plays up the gut too. I actually liked the way the running game was mixed up. Some plays to the left, right and center. Some screens too. There was a lot to like about the run game. Didn't really pay a lot of attention to pre-snap movement. Saw some good OL play. There is clearly a better coach calling the plays.
  8. Cassel made a lot of completions, but ultimately didn't score. He just doesn't seem to have that "IT" factor. Taylor had all kinds of "IT" with big plays from both his arm and his legs. Manual had a rough start but came back pretty strong. I'd like to see more of EJ to be honest. Something seems off that I can't quite put my finger on. He has huge big play potential but the inconsistency. He puts some mustard on his passes, more so than the other QBs and inevitably, receivers are dropping those live balls. It seems to be a little of both receivers and EJ to me. I'd also like to see more from Taylor. After following Cassel, the Panther's defense really got an entirely different look. Entirely different style and even though I like what Taylor did, I also wonder if his style isn't something a defense will eventually find an answer for. Cassel makes very few mistakes and I like that. I'd like to see him make an occasional big play though. Overall, considering this is the very 1st preseason game, I'm pretty optimistic about where the QBs are going. There was good and bad but clearly, the offense is capable of putting points on the board. If I had to pick a QB today, it would be Taylor, but I am not 100% certain he is the best choice yet. If I had to pick a loser between EJ, Taylor and Cassel it would be Cassel, but again I am not 100% on that either. EJ had a lot more than that 1 play on target. There were a few drops. I would have to go back and look. I don't think I saw any that were off the mark, but he was firing some bullets that seemed to catch the receivers off guard.
  9. That's why Kyle Williams is lining up as a TE.....
  10. Then what are they going to do with Watkins, Harvin, Woods and Clay? I seriously doubt that the passing game is going to be underutilized unless all three QBs just plain suck.
  11. ^Truth^. Teenagers today often think they are way more entitled than what they actually are to start with. Then when they know they can get into trouble with mom & dad, will make up a story to try and keep from getting into trouble. Gotta hear both sides of the story and frankly, a misdemeanor charge is probably not going to amount to much.
  12. I'm glad someone included Steve Tasker. Loved watching him play. The most fearless gunner I've ever seen.
  13. All these 4 game suspensions are coming just in time. Now Brady can't say his punishment is too harsh.
  14. There were what, 9-10 sacks in that game?
  15. The eligible, ineligible game is what has makes Brady look like a world beater at QB. The cheaters are preventing the defense from knowing who to cover on any given pass play. It's always been illegal, but the rule change is now making it a 5yd penalty which doesn't make sense to me. If it was illegal to begin with, shouldn't it have been a penalty anyway? Eligible receivers lining up as ineligible and ineligible receivers lining up as eligible should all ready have been a penalty of some sort! If nothing else, it should be an illegal formation.
  16. This is a bunch of BS. If a team attempts to pressure a QB but they aren't very good at it, the QB can take advantage. However, if you have a front 7 like Buffalo, there isn't a QB in this league, you don't go after. In fact, if you are on a Rex Ryan coached defense, you blitz a lot and from many different angles and personel. Ryan has been doing that for years and has successfully gotten to QBs that typically are good at dealing with pressure. Watch what Robey does this year. This defense is going to be sick this year. QBs are going to dread playing Buffalo.
  17. Nice topic. One of the things I find interesting is that the Bills defense is built to stop the pass. Passing teams are not going to win unless they can run too. The Bills have a reputation over the last couple of years for getting after the passer. Teams are going to be reluctant to put their franchise QBs out there too much. I see teams trying to run against us a lot this year so it will be interesting. Keeping that in mind, a control the clock kind of game would play very nicely into our hands. Run and stop the run will work, but from what I am hearing, our receivers are on a mission to become the best route runners in the league. They are also changing up where they line up. Every receiver, TE and RB is lining up in a different spot each play. The offense is looking to surprise us this year. I am expecting a leap forward in the passing game as well. Most of the talk is about the QB, but few teams are building a better all around team. It's going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out. That could also be a problem for Buffalo if they ever find a franchise QB. We have spent a lot of money building a team around the QB. If one of the QB's currently on the team becomes that guy, that payday will come sooner rather than later. If one is drafted the date will back up a bit. Overall though, I am pretty excited about this year.
  18. Ha ha. I knew someone would respond with this when I posted this. You win the Boobie Prize.
  19. Some of the other coaches are pretty good too. McDonald went to the probowl 5 times in his career as a safety. He knows a thing or two about the position. Donnie Henderson has also been around for a long time. He was a DB coach for the Jets in 2004-2005. He later worked for Detriot and was actually thought highly of since he was named defensive coordinator(didn't last long was fired....Detroit went 3-13). He then went back to a defensive backs coach position for Arizona. Later Henderson coached at Syracuse and came to Buffalo with Marone. Rex likes him too and he is still here. Our back field is not only talented, but the coaches are pretty good too. There are some other coaches that have a good chance of advancing their careers. Two come from coaching families. Tony Sporano is our TE's coach. His father(I'm sure some of you have heard of him) has coached for many years and happens to know a lot about coaching TE's. His son is following in his dad's footsteps and though he doesn't have a lot of experience, you can bet he will get some this year. In Greg Roman's offense the TE is going to be used in ways we are not used to seeing. The other name Is Bobby April III. He's a LB coach who followed Rex here from the Jets. Last year DAVID HARRIS, DEMARIO DAVIS and CALVIN PACE, all set career numbers. That was Bobby's 1st year as a LBs coach after serving as a quality control assistant the year before. Obviously, Ryan, Roman, Thurman and Kromer are going to get a lot of attention. But there is another coach that was retained after Marone left and a lot of us thought he was going to stink. He's so far proved us wrong and is in a good position to improve even further this year. His name is Danny Crossman. I expect the Bills will lead the league on special teams this coming season. BTW, good post, OP!!!
  20. And you were surprised when your wife was upset that you got here a rubber warm water bottle for your anniversary?
  21. ^^^ This ^^^ However, Buffalo has 3 other DLmen capable of double digit sack seasons. They can still make the Colts pick their poison on who to block. Plus, we know Rex Ryan is going to bring the blitz from unknown places. Make no mistake. Luck will be running for his life. I have a hunch Luck won't know what hit him.
  22. The Bills have 2 very good WR coaches on the team. Not to mention some other very good coaches. Buffalo is a coaching intern's heaven. This is not just Buffalo. It is the place to be.
