Would You Take 8-8 or 3-13 and the #1 Pick in '12?
Rockinon replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The losers supporting losers thread. How quaint. -
Naw, your not the only one. I have faith in him too. After struggling early last year, Chan just decided to go with his more productive veteran, Fred. I am certain that with a year more of experience, Chan will find more ways to get him involved.

Why don't you go to work and snivel your praises to your boss. That's where you belong. Realist my arse. I'll tell you what real is. Real is an angry, passionate 300lb defensive lineman who smashes his opponent to the turf. It doesn't get any more real than that especially if your on the receiving end of that punishment. Forget your scientific outlook and simply work harder, set the bar higher and see where it takes you. If you can't even try, you're a loser. You apply your zeal and passion to every phase of your life. You don't exclude your zeal and passion for a game anymore than you exclude zeal and passion from your every day life. Next? Not true at all. The greatest improvements come from working harder, setting higher goals and being passionate about it. This applies to everything you do in life. It's true of this football team and it's true of the fans who watch them play. Gailey hit the nail on the head last year when he said " I get the feeling some people around here would be pleased with just being 9-7 and having a winning record again. Well, where do you want me to pick the seven losses? And why even bother to play those games? That's not what we are going to be about.''

I like the way you think. Fred Jackson is able to slip through smallest of cracks and then just keep his legs churning for extra yards. That's his strength. CJ's strength is his quick burst and change of direction. He excels at making people miss in the open field. Chan had his hands full with a whole new offense last year and could not spend a lot of time finding ways to get CJ in open spaces on the field. Remember he was a rookie. Look for that to change this year.

Not for someone who is trying lose weight. -
Yea, you are right and I can relate somewhat(a decade of mediocrity). I am just getting a bit peeved with the over all acceptance of mediocrity that seems to drive discussions on this board. Not saying there is no fight in anyone around here, but where is the knock down drag out, never give up, fierce passion that pushes the game to the next level? Now that is a fan. I know it's just a game, so spare me the redundancy of having to hear that argument again. These players are getting paid millions. We should expect more. They are living a dream that is supported by us the fan. We deserve it and the players should know that we feel this way about it. Passion baby. Feed the fire and it will spread. If the players feel the passion they can do great things.

There is truth to this, but the first part is where you set the bar(NFL Championship). If you are to scared to set the bar there, how are you ever going to reach the goal? Bashing someone for having high expectations is wrong. Logic does have it's place, in math or science. But there is something that is of greater importance than logic. It's called wisdom. Wisdom allows you to reach higher where logic tells you that you can only reach as high as is mathematically/scientifically plausible.

Well, that's nice and all, but I am much more interested in what he does on the football field. Don't want another JP Lossman.

Teams contacting UFAs? PFW says yes.

I think maybe he was just agreeing with you? -
Logic doesn't win games. Passion does though. Nothing wrong with believing 9-7 or even 11-5 is possible. As far as I am concerned, if you do not have high expectations, you are a loser. Losers never set the bar any higher than a "logical" sure thing. Losers except the status quo. Losers lurk behind every corner and try to steal someone elses thunder. Winners on the other hand don't give a good god damn what others think because they can make their own thunder. So stick that in your logic pipe and smoke it.

Dareus seems to have good manners and a certain way of speaking that just wins people over quickly. I have a sister in Alabama, right near Birmingham. The times I have visited there, I was very struck by the culture there and how nice people are. People just seem to not be in as big of a hurry and seem to just enjoy life more. Dareus has that same air about him.

By the sound of it, Troupe has been getting pumped too.

I suppose so, doesn't mean they're going to run out and get their palm read though.

I saw another quote when he was asked about other teams passing on him in the draft. Can't remember exactly, but he said something about coming back to haunt them.
-
Wasn't he a gunner on kick offs?
-
Do people still use those?
-
I like his quotes. Here This one is my favorite: Anyone think our running isn't going to improve?
-
Come to think of it, you are right. Thurman was horrible his first year and then he really start laying some wood after that. I remember because it was such a shock to actually see him doing that. Maybe he was looking at the tape of previous games or coaching. Gailey said late last year that CJ was going to be a great back in this league and did not seem too worried about his first year performance. Maybe he's right.
-
We still need H-backs. Everyone around here keeps saying that Gailey's system does not use tight ends, but that couldn't be further from the truth. In order to really get the run game going we need blocking TEs, otherwise called H-backs. People look at how poorly our offensive line looks when it comes to opening up holes but it has a lot less to do with tackles or guards. Name one good blocking TE that played all of last year. There were none folks. You can't expect CJ to do his thing without some space. If you want to see Spiller break out, you have to play to his strength by getting him in open space. He can also be used more as a receiver out of the backfield as well. Either way, play to his strengths rather than trying to make him into Fred Jackson. His talent isn't less because he isn't Fred Jackson. He is just different.

We need H-backs to block for him.

Drafts over. What free agents should we go after?
Rockinon replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do think we will go after a TE in FA. Today's TEs are key components of the running game. That's why they call them H-backs or powerbacks. They're kind of a cross between a fullback and a TE. It's why fullbacks are rarely used any more. Gailey does use TEs in his offensive schemes and primarily as an H-back. It is definitely a priority if they want to get CJ Spiller rolling. If he can catch too, well that's just an added bonus. We will find one and we will find a QB to backup Fitz too. Beyond that, it all depends on how things play out. -
That's a great story. The guy is a long time Bills fan and is now doing the new turf for the Ralph. His company is making a top notch product too.

Radio interview with Aaron Williams
Rockinon replied to NickMendola's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I moved from Lockport to Northern New York back in 1989, but I remember listening Bills radio back then and it was pretty good. Don't know what happened, but this sounds like great sports reporting to me now. -

Geesh Joe. I thought you had better character than that. Wheres the Senator when you need him. 16-0 or don't bother playing on my team.
