Because he would be a cancer to this team. Newton would be drafted in the 1st round and many would want him to start immediately. The problem with that is that you have a guy who all ready has earned the respect of his coaches, team mates and who has proved himself a capable leader. How do you think the guys on the the offensive line are going to react to poster boy, super rookie when they all have a guy that battled and earned his colors with them last year? This is a team sport and an individual's physical skills alone are not going to take us to the next level.

I think your mixing up Pistol with "Wildcat". We did do a little of that with Fred Jackson.

I agree. He never gets hung up on one player and constantly looks at things from different angles.

You can throw these statistics out the window, because most 1st round QBs are actually expected to come right in and play and do. Second rounders, no. They have to sit behind someone all ready starting and wait for their opportunity.

I like this kid too. Go defense with the first 2 picks and hopefully he drops to the 3rd round. That would be sweet.

All right. I'm going to have to call BS. You don't know that, not by a long shot. This is a guy that has earned the respect of his coaches and his peers. We're not talking about just meeting expectations but exceeding them far beyond what anyone thought possible. People who do that deserve to be given a second look. He has become rallying point for this team and you are simply ignoring his accomplishments in favor of a rookie that will only cause dissension and hard feelings amongst team mates. You really don't know crap about this game and if you really believe any rookie is going to come in and compete at a higher level you are are living in a fantasy world. There are no rookies with a better chance of leading this team into the playoffs, not by a mile.

Finally someone I agree with. The interesting thing about Fitz is that the players rally around him. You can't say enough about that. I am not sold on him taking the team to a superbowl either, but with a better supporting cast, and a full season as the starter, I believe he would be ranked higher than half the QBs in this league. That's a pretty tall order for any rookie QB. Fitz earned the starting job last year. I just think that getting a replacement for him with the first pick when he just spent a season earning the respect of everyone around him would be a grave mistake. His team mates will tell you that the explosiveness the offense showed last year was all Fitz. He's like a general on the field. Name one rookie that can come in and be that. I like Newton as an athlete but aside from that, I do not see the qualities I would like to see in a starting QB. Maybe with time he will be. The point is, he won't start this year and the 3rd pick in my mind will be an immediate starter. It'll most likely be defense too, because anyone with half a brain can see that is where we are falling far short of our goals.

Let Fitz play with a better supporting cast and a full season of play and then take a look at those same numbers.

I have a Thurman Thomas Topps "Super Rookie" card. He had 207 attempts, for 881 yards and a 4.3 yard avg. Pretty good but not great.

We need a QB, but I don't see any draftable prospects being able to compete at Fit's level for quite some time. And most people making the argument for his replacement are certain that he can't be that franchise QB himself. People want that shiny new toy and completely ignore what they have right in their own back yard. The idea is to improve on what we have instead of sacrificing something valuable in order to get something more valuable. Our focus should be to fix our weaknesses not tamper with our strengths.

Fitz has the respect and support of his team mates and coaches. Just don't see the Bill's ignoring that and taking a QB this high. The Defense is what this team needs and a lot of it. Skipping their biggest need to take a QB is just a huge mistake, Billy Fuccillo huge. To top it off, Newton just doesn't cut the mustard in my book. Hype. Nothing but hype.

On that note I am just going to end my discussion on this subject.

Stroud's reputation is what kept Stroud on the field, not Carrington's performance. He was, after all just a rookie.

Brady would have been crying like a baby if he was placed in the situation Fitz was last year.
