1. You guys have to be kidding me...

Dick Jauron was trying to teach a young team, that no one thinks can win, how to stick the dagger into the heart of an opponent  (one we were supposed to have NO CHANCE of beating) on the ground.  If it would have worked, it would have been brilliant.

    767558

Ya i mean lets look at the bright side, this team came out and sacked brady forced a fumble and scored. They made a statement early that it was going to be a fight. I said right away we had to go for it on 4 th and 1. I didnt like the play call, (jp bootleg maybe) but hey we went for it. on the road against tom brady you gotta make it as tough as possible. had we scored a TD there game over Juaron is a hero. it didnt work out but i was very impressed with this team, they will be tough to beat and im looking forward to alot of good games this year. 8 8, 7 9 is not out of reach. Go Bills!!!

  2. Yes.  I may be a little more optimistic than most, but I really think the Bills will be competeitve this year.

Look at it this way, we were a couple bounces away from 8-8 LAST SEASON, as bad as it was.  If we hold on in Miami and NE, there is 2 more wins.  If we beat the Jets late last season, there is another win.  Also, don't forget the NO game.  If McGee gets into the endzone on that KR at the end of the half, I really think that game could have been different.

So, I truly believe that with BETTER coaching and playcalling, which I think we have, why can't we turn those 3-4 games the other way this year?

I think the Bills will open some eyes this year.

    763931

You are absolutly right. i cant stand when all the "experts" write us off as the brady quinn sweepstake winners. thats a load of crap. 8 and 8 and a few very close losses. look for all the experts to be "shocked" when we start 4 and 0

  3. cutting GATES??????????  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    759872

I really liked Gates he showed me he can play in this league.I hope we get him back or he finds successs with someone else, hes a good player. Expect wire to get released as soon as bowen is healthy again, and baker to be resigned. we needed a backup ss for whitner. overall i like our roster this year. ill miss fast freddie tho :w00t:

  4. OK  i will preface this post by admitting that im probably wearing red white and blue tinted glasses.

But I'm starting to get a really good vibe from this group. No matter what the record, I am very impressed that the Bills seemingly improved every time they took the field for each preseason game. Whether it be turnovers, penalties, defense, or offense. The key to winning in the NFL is to recognize and eliminate the mistakes you made the week before. This is something that we NEVER saw from MM or GW in the preseason or the regular season. The Bills first units are in such good rhythms right now that I really think they can carry it over into foxboro on Sunday.

If the Bills come out firing, all the pressure will shift over to NE if they fall behind early and the fans get restless.

Maybe its foolish optimism, but I think the Bills have a strong chance at knocking off NE in week 1 and making a strong early season statement to the rest of the league.

    Flame away ;=)

    758521

Dude i love the optimism and ive been say9ng this since the carolina game. We look like a TEAM for the first time in years. Its so refreshing, and i think the bills have a legtimate shot at beating the pats week one. They gotta play mistake free and not turn the ball over but i think they can do it GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. They say that preseason games are not important, but I feel much more confident in JP heading into this season than last season based on what I saw in the preseason games this year versus the preseason games last year.  The kid definitely has a gun -- and the athletic abillty to make some great plays.

I hate to say it, but I really am glad that the expectations are so low heading into the season. Everyone is expecting us to finish 4-12 or 5-11. That will take pressure off JP, as the season is now being billed as his developmental season, rather than as one in which everything else seems to be in place provided that JP doesn't screw it up. That's what the caches were saying last year if you remember. Of course, there many reasons beyond JP for why we stunk so bad last season.

JP is a big-play QB. That means that we will see him make some great plays that should help us win some games -- but he is also going to make some serious mistakes that will single-handedly cause us to lose games. I expect tons of excitement in that regard... both good and bad. I'm glad to see that the coaching staff is mindful of this already. Let's give the kid 16 starts with what looks so far to be a decent offensive coaching staff. If he is God awful -- and not showing signs of improvement down the stretch, then we'll know he's not the answer. But I just can't help but think that we may have the next Brett Favre on our hands, if the stars and moon align the right way.

Bottom line: the onus is on all of us (fans and media alike) to be patient and not call for his benching early in the season. With two tough road games against NE and Miami to start the year, the chances are pretty good that he will struggle early on. It will be interesting to see how he rides the storm without a self-serving QB-killer like Moulds waiting in the wings.

    756264

I completly agree with you on this one. All QBs struggle at times and losman will be now exception. But at least this year we have a coach that wont listen to the media. With the media predicting us having the # 1 pick, JP has no pressure, he can just go out there and play football. From what ive seen in the preseason Jp is more than ready to lead us to a respectable 6 7 8 win season with alot of big plays. i cant wait for the NE game. im calling an upset right now. Any takers???

  6. I agree with most of the above comments. He's improved. He seems to be learning from his mistakes.

At the beginning of training camp, I was skeptical that he was going to be a starting QB in the NFL. I'm optimistic now that by the end of this season, he'll be considered a solid starter. If he continues to eliminate the negatives in his game (e.g. he's still making some inaccurate throws), he might actually turn out to be a pretty good one.

    753216

I thought after watching the nfirst game he looked great, compared to last year especially. he also threw a strike to lee evens just abouve his head and out side where only evens could get it. That ball had some hard zip on that, and that touchdown last night was an amazing play for any qb. I was also encouraged by nall, he coulkd come in and play well if we needed him to. hes locked up the back up position in my opinion.

  7. I still feel pretty much the same way about the signing as I did then.  It was a good one,  as long as the Bills didn't try to pass him off as being anything more than a backup or spot starter should Losman turn out to be a flop.

    750397

This is exactly what i thought. I could never get over the fact he played behind tim couch for a few years and when he finaly did beat him out, the browns were awful that year. spot starter not great on 4 th and 8 but decent backup

  8. i doubt they cut bowen in favor of rob lee or leonard. i bet they both get cut. baker could play ss in a pinch as could ko. shaud williams will get cut. hes almost usless in our new offense and a crowded backfield, his days a s a bill are over. fast freddie love him but hes gone. chris denny(whats he done) and neufeld wont make it. if they really likecieslak as much as they say they only keep theee. neufeld is out. whoever our ls was from last year. hes a mularky guy and one of our des can do it i think. hes usless then.

  9. His decision making skills didn't look too hot everytime he'd get rattled last year. His decision making wasn't the greatest in the Senior Bowl either. They said he was put to the second team to get reps with the 1st team offense against the 1st team defense to see how he would perform. He may very well be a good QB down the line, but don't start calling him a young Elway yet.

    738501

This is just in....ALL QUATERBACKS MAKE BAD DECISONS!!!! Peyton Manning makes a bad decision every once and a while. it happens Manning gets rattled whenever he plays new england but everyone still says hes a great qb. JP played in 8 games in his whole damn carrer let the guy actully play before you knock him. Carson palmer wasnt the second comign of jesus right away, neither was manning (eli or peyton). Give the kid a chance to [prove what he can do. That coaching lat year, that was a non iwn situatiion for losman. they had a different game plan for losman than they did holcomb. And if losman had a higher completion % bc he dumped off for 2 yards on 4th and 8, we still woulda lost. The thing that really seperates holcomb and jp in my opinion, is not arm strenghth or decison making, its losmans big play potential. yes holcomb can manage a game, and when you have a great o line rb and defense that works. but we until proven otherwise lack the o line and d. the player that gives you the best chance to win is someone who CAN MAKE PLAYS with his arm or legs. holcomb can do neither. id rather have losman throw a pic going for a big play then holcomb dumping a 2 yard pass on 4th and 8 when we still have a good shot against NE. but hey i guess higher completion % and stats are far more important than the overall outcome of the game.

  10. Great stuff. Thanks for the news. So, was he the Fairport Red Raiders' QB? What a program they have. Of course, as a former Raider myself, that is not the most unbiased observation.

Again, thanks. I hope Cottengim knocks their socks off. I don't think Fairport has ever had an NFLer. I believe Mark Banowitz (spelling?) was drafted by Jacksonville or Carolina, but I don't think he ever made the team.

    735476

mark banowitz made jacksonville he backed up tony boselli for a few years then he hurt his knee and retired. hes coaching at my high school (mcquaid jesuit)

  11. The difference is that Jp IS A BUST

    734866

Dude thats so dumb to say. jp had some great games last year. he shouldnt have been the starter out of the gate ill agree with that. (he wasnt ready) but mularky was a bust, clements was a bust and donahoe was a disaster. jp played very well the second time around and he will be betteer than rivers this year. what has rivers proved at all in this league. o and little known fact SCHOTTENHEIMER WANTED TO KEPP BREES. he fought the front office and lost. if his own coach doesnt think hes ready why would anyone else think he can be much better than jp?

  12. I gotta believe that if one of his intangables was arm strength that Green Bay would not have let him walk away. Especially with their QB situation.

    729304

that new coach up in GB said he really wanted to keep Nall. But i guess Nall assumed that he wouldnt have a shot at starting. those coaches in GB including shurman thought very highly of him. Im still on the JP Bandwagon but dont be surprised if this kid turns some heads

  13. And maybe, just maybe, Marv is ahead of the curve on this. He could be totally off base, but on the other hand, he does have more experience on the sideline than I do. So, it's it possible that he understands the importance of having a Safety like a Steve Atwater playing like a rattlesnake in the secondary. It could work out. Then again, it could blow up in his face. What's the percentage? You tell me. But he wanted a Banger there and thinks he got one. Remember, he had a real hard time getting to the big dance until he got Leonard Smith.

I'll wait till the jury comes back. Frankly, I think it'll be fun watching.

    727019

Marv took the best player ont he board. Typically a defensive player is more likly to be a good pick than say a qb or rb that can't play at that level (Ki Juna Carter, Tim couch, Harrington). Defense doesnt change much, cover your man/zone and make the tackle. i have no doubt whitner can handle that. Kudos to marv for not taking leinart and wasting a huge opprutunity at a good player like whitner

  14. If Kelly Holcomb starts day one for the bills( unless injuries) i will never watch the bills again. I believe losman has tyhe talent and showed that he can play last year. Yea we sucked but i contribute that mroe to Donahue not taking care of the defense and mularky listening to the media than losmans play. if DJ starts Holcomb that proves to me that this organization doesnt care about the fans. We know what holcomb can do, hes a great BACK UP. If he plays a game or two for an injury fine thats his job but he is by no means an everyday starter. If losman isnt your guy why would you start someone who backed up tim couch ( probley pumping gas right now) and Threw away 2 game last year. (new england and jets). If losman isnt the guy get a big name (Brees or culpepper) but dont start the "vetern" and waste another year and fans money

  15. According to the posters here, the term for you would be "Homer" or 'Dreamer". Around here optimistic means you think the Bills will win 2-3 games at most. You are to busy drinking the kool-aid the organisation is feeding everybody, this team sucks.

I on the other hand, welcome you to the side that believe this team will actually be competitive and show lots of improvement and maybe even make a run for the playoffs, but we usually get pushed to the back corners of this board and told we don't know what we are talking about

    723452

Buffalo has a shot. if we have a coach this year we could actully be tough to beat. playoffs probley not but 7-9 8-8 very possible

  16. Sun 09/10 @ New England Patriots CBS 1:00 PM

This is a must win game for whoever the starting qb is in order for them to keep their job. I think the Bills will be psyched to prove all the so called experts wrong.

    W (1-0)

Sun 09/17 @ Miami Dolphins CBS 1:00 PM

I think Miami is very overrated this year. I think the Bills d-line will have a field day against this Miami o-line. Also, if Culpepper plays, he probably won't be playing at 100%. W (2-0)

Sun 09/24 NEW YORK JETS CBS 1:00 PM

Buffalo's home opener! This is a team that many people actually think are worse than the Bills! W (3-0)

Sun 10/01 MINNESOTA VIKINGS FOX 1:00 PM

Minnesota is going to be very solid this year. I don't think the Bills will be able to pull this one out, but hey, it's an NFC team. L (3-1)

Sun 10/8 @ Chicago Bears CBS 1:00 PM

Same as MIN game. L (3-2)

Sun 10/15 @ Detroit Lions CBS 1:00 PM

Detroit seems to be an improved team this year. But the Bills will want to prove that there are a winning team. Also, whoever the Bills starting qb is will need a W this week to keep his job. W (4-2)

Sun 10/22 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS CBS 1:00 PM

This game will be for 1st place in the AFC East and the fans in Buffalo will be cheering the Bills all the way to victory. W (5-2)

Sun 11/05 GREEN BAY PACKERS FOX 1:00 PM

The Pack will stink it up again this year and the Bills will need this win. W (6-2)

Sun 11/12 @ Indianapolis Colts CBS 1:00 PM

I'd like to say the Bills will win this game, but that Indi offense will be too much for Buffalo.  The Bills will lose in a close game. L (6-3)

Sun 11/19 @ Houston Texans CBS 1:00 PM

Another must win game for the Bills if they want to win the AFC East. They will be all over david carr all day. W (7-3)

Sun 11/26 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS CBS 1:00 PM

This is the re-match of that comeback game for JAX.  I can see it now, "Leftweich drops back, OH! He's hit by Mccargo and fumbles the ball. Schobel picks it up, Touchdown Buffalo!". The Bills will win in a low scoring game. W (8-3)

Sun 12/3 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS CBS 1:00 PM

Another tough opponent for Buffalo.  I think this will be a showdown between LT and Willis. LT will win that showdown. L (8-4)

Sun 12/10 @ New York Jets CBS 1:00 PM

Buffalo will be hungry for a victory and the jets won't even know who their starting qb is. W (9-4)

Sun 12/17 MIAMI DOLPHINS CBS 1:00 PM

The Fish will be frozen in Buffalo. Willis will run all over that Miami D. W (10-4)

Sun 12/24 TENNESSEE TITANS CBS 1:00 PM

Once again, Willis will be making the Titan run defense look like snowmen. W (11-4)

Sun 12/31 @ Baltimore Ravens CBS 1:00 PM

This game will be a must win game for Baltimore and the Bills will allready have the AFC East locked up.  The fans over at M&T Bank Stadium will get their wish with a Ravens victory. W (11-5)

Well folks, laugh all you want, but those are my Bills predictions and I'm sticking with it!

    723674

i love your optimism. if Buffalo goes into Newengland and beats the pats week one, then i believe your prediction may have some validity. I hope your right but i doubt we beat NE twice AFC East record 4 and 2 i say. i bet we migh beat new england once andd miami once or lose two to new england but otherwise i agree with you. The bills will be competitive and fun to watch this year. that much is for sure

  17. The Bills do have a pro bowl calibur quaterback on their roster. JP ( I believe) has proved that he can play in this league. Yes his ifrst 4 games were awful, but Peyton manning went 3-13 his first year. Eli lost his first 6 (i think) Carson Palmer played poorly the first half of his first year as a starter. All those Quaterbacks are top tier or almost top tier qbs. Phillip Rivers is going to struggle this year. JP went 1 and 7 right? Texans being the one win. he also beat kansas city (playoff team) Miami(near playoff team) (shoulda won defense sucked that game) that makes him 3 and 7 while being jerked around by Mularky and having most of the team (Moulds, Adams Clements Gray) quit on the team (Mularky fought to save his job the quit and ran off to miami )(kitty) Jp is a hard worker and he learned a big lesson last season one that im sure he will learn from. Now he is fighting to WIN the job (which i believe he will) and he will be better for it. it will take time but dont write him off yet. Oh and BTW if big ben wasnt lucky enogh to be put into a great situation no one would be this upset about JP

  18. Generally, I agree with your sense of who will start.  The one area of significant disagreement I would have is the expectation from folks that Simpson is gonna start for this team this year.

I think a lot of this feeling is base more on some fans not wanting Vincent to start because he is an older player and because the NFLPA (and unions generally) have such negative press and TV is their Prez.

TV is long in the tooth and like Villarial, what used to nicks which players played through can now become injuries which knock them out of games.  He could well be forced to the bench early in the season.

However, if he is look for Rashad Baker to step in at FS and not Simpson.  Simpson is a second day draftee and if he follows the course of most players who had the talent where they got drafted at this point, it will be into his second season before he can contribute much to this team beyond ST work.

    719356

ok i can see what your saying about simpson. i forgot about baker, hed probly step in first. Good point

  19. Who else thinks that Big Ben is overratted beyond belief. His stats are in the middle of the pack and in the super bowl in which he played "great" according to the so called experts the only touchdown was thrown by randle el to hines ward. Big ben throw two picks for 120 some odd yards wow hes a keeper. he was a product of Bill Cower and Bettis. With out randle el or bettis pitt will miss the playoffs

  20. I always think we have upside. The bills do have alot of talent but may be a year or two away from even being considered a playoff contender. i forsee a 5 6 7 win season. I think with marv and DJ we should be able to compete and at least give a lot of the so called "Good" teams ie pitt (Big Been is the most overratted player in the nfl) a run for their money. Expect a tough team to beat but few wins next year
