They need a better pass-rushing DE. They have just been getting by with a "solid playmaker" like Schobel. They need somebody that demands attention. Most of the better than average OTs neutralize Schobel.

Why do people keep saying this?? Remember they took Mike Williams with the 4th pick 4 years ago!! He may have turned out to be a bust so far but he was rated that high by all the mock drafts back then!!! The O-lin e was addressed but the p[latyer didn't pan out. How longhas it been since Jonas Jennings and Marcus Sullivan were taken. Jennings was good and they let him get away. He was injured again for SF this past year so maybe that was a good move?? I can keep going with more times "the offensive line was addressed" in the past 15 years. Remember the 1st round selection of John Fina??

Saw an ESPN interview with Steve Young, talking about the draft. He had some great insight on adapting to QB in the NFL. As he put it, "In college, everybody was open. In the NFL, nobody was open!!"

Going for the name draft?? Dusty Dvoracek. I like it! And Frostee playing in Buffalo just fits!!

Yeah, really. Saints did sign Michael Bennett but their offense struggled, even with McAllister and Brooks and Horn. I know Bush played all his home games on grass but I think him playing on turf could be even better. Remember what Barry Sanders did at home with Detroitin a dome on turf. With Bush's speed and moves, whoooeee!!

Kirwan'sMockDraftII Don't know if it's been posted before but some interesting info in Kirwan's recent MockDraft on NFL.com. 1) There's a RUMOR Raiders may trade up to #2 to get Young. That would, of course, still leave New Orleans ahead of us. One coach now thinks of Young more as a McNabb rather than a Michael Vick. 2) Ngata being downgraded by many teams. Kirwan has Bunkley for the Bills. 3) Most teams don't see more than about 20 players justifying 1st round labels. This could lead to more teams wanting to trade up. 4) Two players, one a clear-cut 1st round talent, have failed drug tests. This should lead to their dropping in the draft. Of course, RUMORS of Marino and drugs dropped him to the last pick of the 1st round in 1983. Anyone with known drug issues would likely NOT be considered by character-conscious Levy.

Oh, definitely. Remember that early on the New Orleans, Atlanta and Tampa (sort of) games were there for the taking but the offense was inept and had to settle for FGs (especially vs Atl). Best case, they could've started 6-0 going to Oakland. Realistically, I'd not include the Tampa game, so figure a 5-1 record after 6 games. That would've been great for the confidence of Losman and the whole team. Instead, the offense's struggles led to media criticism and Losman's benching.

Despite what some people on this board think, I can't see the Bills taking one of the top 3 who might be available at pick #8. If they surpisingly did take one of them, that sure wouldn't show much confidence in the Losman/Holcomb/Nall threesome. So, after Leinart, Cutler and Young are gone, and currently only 8 picks in this draft, it really doesn't make sense to draft a QB. They added Nall in free agency. Although he was a lower round pick by Green Bay, his expereince, even just in pre-season games and practice, is more valuable than what a rookie could bring. They also have Ochs in NFL Europe gaing valuable experience. They need to fill their real needs in this draft. Only ways I see a QB being drafted is that they do make a draft day trade or two and get more picks and/or they go with the best available player in the later rounds. That still could be considered a wasted pick. I'd rather take a flyer on a small school unknown at OL, TE, DE, DB, FB, etc. than use it on another QB.

Yes, if GB took Davis, SF would have to go in another direction and Huff is a possibility. I don't know that they'd pass on Hawk though. Ulbrich has done well for them at ILB but they played the 3-4 so Hawk could play the other ILB. He's too much of a talent to bypass. The local media is convinced the Raiders want Huff. It will be surprising for any of the consensus top 7 that fill the Bills' needs (Williams, Ferguson) or are the prime players at their position (Hawk, Davis) dropping to the Bills. So, it'll end up being their choice of Ngata, Bunkley, Justice or the trade down. So, I didn't go out on a limb!

I still believe there's a good possibilty that someone drafting after the Bills likes someone who is available at #8 and talks trade with the Bills. It'll depend on how much lower that other team is drafting and the total pkg they offer. Could it be Arizona or St Louis wanting someone like Cutler??

I have a hard time believing that Joe Montana would've been an NFL Hall-of-Fame QB had the Bills drafted him in 1979 instead of the Niners.

Did Houston really have a problem drawing fans?? I thought 'winning games' was their problem??

I've recently started receiving, likely because I'm a registered Bills' backer, Daily Bills Buzz e-mails. Here are some observations: 1) In a Mini-camp film clip where Steve Fairchild was being interviewed, the camera was on the Bills working out in the Field House (i.e. no weather factors). They were doing a passing drill where the receivers (noticed Evans, Aiken and Parrish) were running sideline patterns. Of about a dozen plays with #7 throwing the ball, just about all of them were off-target. You would expect, an NFL caliber QB, throwing indoors, to have a lot better accuracy than that, wouldn't you?? In fact I don't think it's too high of an expectation that all the passes should've been on target. I'd previously only seen Losman in game action before and was hard-pressed to criticize him too much being that he was playing in the elements and had 300-pounders rushing at him. What I saw in this film clip wasn't very encouraging on his success. 2) In a film clip of a speech by Senator Schumer, Ralph introduces him. Man, does he stammer. In the intro, Ralph says "Schumer came all the way from the East Coast" Geez. If you drew a straight line east from Buffalo to the Atlantic Coast, what is it about, 200 miles?? I know what he was trying to say, about Schumer coming in from DC, but he just continues to sound so awful. Someone needs to convince him to speak less. 3) In a comment Ralph made at the end of this clip, he talked about the bottom line reports that go out and how the Bills' revenues don't line up with other teams. He states, however, that he can't see himself charging $100 for a sideline tickets so that the bottom line appeases other NFL owners. He believes he can only charge what the comunity can afford. That's somewhat a positive for Bills' fans but this seems like something the other owners can use against him with respect to the "shared revenues" that could eventually force the team out of the area. 4) On a positive note, in the Minicamp video , Fairchild seemed excited about the receiving corps and what he can do with them. 4) Evans was moved to split end. It's geenrally been though tthat Moulds needed to be replaced. In essence, Evans replaces Moulds so somebody else has to fill the other role that Evans had. 5) In another clip, Jauron says "the first things the players had to learn at the start of this minicamp was "How to practice" " What doe s that say about the previous coaching staff. There were no rookies here. 6) The passing offense is a "timing offense". To me, this seems to be a positive for the more accurate Holcomb, and an additional obstacle for the erratic Losman.

The previous "brain trust" took a shot with a plan and it didn't work out. Some teams have turned it around in a year but odds are that won't happen for the Bills in 2006. I'm willing to endure another losing season to see if Marv's plan works. Last year's team obviously way underachieved. Hopefully this year's team, with comparatively less talent with the departures of Adams, Milloy and Moulds, can overachieve or at least play to their level and it can be a better season to watch.

I'm not surprised by this. I saw several great games by Reggie Bush for USC and was impressed by his blazing speed plus ability to shake tacklers but there has always been some uncertainty in my mind as whether he should be the 1st pick of the draft, especially by Houston. There have been many comments by members of the media and football people about the fact that Bush is not a 20+ carries-a-game guy. Also, put him on a team with a poor offensive line and will he be that effective? He appears to have more strength than people give him credit for but the average defensive player in the NFL is a lot bigger than what he's faced in college. Houston also doesn't seem to be the best place for Bush so maybe another team will trade up. Thinking about the best NFL teams for him to play for, picture him playing for Indy taking short passes from Manning and turning them into long runs. With Rhodes still there as a short-yardage goal-line guy, it could really work there. Picture Bush also playing for the Rams. They have the big back in Steven Jackson but Bush could assume the Marshall Faulk role. We don't know if these two teams or any other teams are thinking this way but it just seems, as others have mentioned, to be too much of a luxury pick for the Texans to take Bush with the 1st pick when they're coming off a 2-14 season with so many holes to fill. Sure Bush could be the next Barry Sanders of the NFL but how much did Detroit win with Sanders??

I don't know if this has been mentioned befoe, but there were some good coments made by Marv Levy in the latest issue of Bills Digest. 1) They purposely went after free agents in the age range of 25 - 28 so these players would be around as they team expects to improve 2) They purposely went after lower tier free agents to avoid overpaying for guys high on the radar 3) Levy doesn't believe in taking a QB with a high 1st round pick putting pressure on the player to be "the savior" Some of this could just be blowing smoke but these points also make sense. Sure Marv lucked out with Jim Kelly already a Bill after 2 seasons in the USFL but think about what else he observed. Todd Collins was a 2nd round pick expected to fill Kelly's shoes and he failed. Rob Johnson was acquired for a high 1st round pick and he didn't pan out. Losman was drafted with a 1st round acquired for a 1st round and other picks and the jury is still out on him. So, I can't see the Bills taking a QB in the 1st round, no matter which one might be there.

I don't see anything wrong with it.

They DID address the O-line in drafting when they selected Mike Williams. And those that now 2nd guess that move are being short-sighted. Williams was high on everyone's board. Nobody could predict he'd be a bust so far. A change of scenery now may see him perform up to expectations. Who knows??

He also has a friend in Donald Trump. He was on The Apprentice last night.

Starting to wonder about that move as well.

Isn't it interesting, looking back though, that after Gruden gave up on Johnson in Tampa, that was it for his NFL career. Wasn't he like only 31 or 32??
