With the 21st selection in the TSW mock draft, the Indianapolis Colts select Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech. We were tempted to go edge here, because there was someone we liked, and it's a need, but we just could not pass up Farley. We had him as the top corner in the draft by a comfortable margin based on his tape, size and off-the-charts athleticism. If not for his back issue, which our doctors have cleared, we are convinced Farley might have gone in the top six of this draft. If the Colts are going to take the next step, we need someone who can match up with Tyreek Hill and Stephon Diggs. @bkep32 is on the clock.

Gunner's 2021 FINAL Mock Draft on PAGE 21

True regarding Jones. It's a problem with evaluating QBs from teams like OSU, Clemson and Alabama. Teams will have to look at the tape and see what's there. I will say, Jones was far more consistent than Fields. -

Lance didn't opt out; I think his school just didn't have a season this year, other than one game, in which he didn't play very well. He's only got one season of 1-AA football under his belt. And although he put up great numbers that year, he was playing on a dominant team that did not ask him to even throw the ball all that much. Maybe red flag isn't the right term, but there are serious questions about him. He's probably going to benefit from the Josh Allen effect; a few years ago, I doubt he'd be discussed as a first round pick. Fields was inconsistent and again, played on a loaded team where he was throwing to wide open guys most of the time. And I don't think the OSU QB thing can be ignored. I'd be shocked if a team like Washington, just coming off the Haskins fiasco, would want to roll the dice again. -
With the top 3 WRs off the board, Indy is open to a modest trade back...

They might not like either guy...both have serious red flags. Personally, I wouldn't draft either in the first round and I would not be surprised to see them both fall out of the top 12. -

I absolutely think SF is taking Jones. I just don’t think anyone wants to use the 4th overall pick on Lance or Fields. -

Gotta believe ATL trades out of that slot... -

Maybe so, but all indications are that they are taking Chase at 5. I actually think that's the right move, too. -

I doubt Tua finishes the season as the Phins' starting QB, although I'm not sure who their backup is at this point. And at any rate, it looks like Chase will be off the board at 5... -

Nah, he's a short-timer... -
The offseason sure is a lot more fun when you have a quarterback!

This guy is missing the point. Probably Vic Fangio... -
In fairness, CeeDee Lamb was hardly a bad pick.

1969 Buffalo Bills -the long road back
mannc replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Think about this: Simpson played four years of college ball (two years of JC and two years at USC) and when he was a rookie, in 1969, he was already 22 years old. Nowadays, a player like him certainly would have come out a year early. He then spent his first three years in the league barely being used, even though he was a Heisman Trophy winner and the number 1 overall pick in the draft. Under today's system, the Bills would have had to decide on his fifth year option at that point! So by the time the Bills figured out that they should give the ball to Simpson early and often, in 1972, he was already 25 years old--at the point where RBs in today's game are typically cut loose after the end of their rookie contracts. He then went on (at 25 to 29 years old) to have his run of five astounding seasons, when he was IMO, the greatest running back in NFL history, and before injuries ended his career. Oh, what could have been.... -

The other thing to consider is that, for whatever reason, the bust rate seems to be higher with offensive linemen taken in the top 10. I just don’t see any way Chase doesn’t become a top 10 receiver in the league within a year or so. -

I think the Bengals are correct. Chase is likely to become a serious weapon that other teams will have to account for on every down, who will open things up for other players on the field. That has a huge impact. Sewell, even if he’s really good, will just be a solid piece of a functioning offensive line, not someone who will give defensive coordinators nightmares. -
Yep. There are likely to be a number of good CBs available at 30. I don't even think Surtain is the best CB in this draft...He's Surtainly not worth trading up for...

Unfortunately, he was barely used in his first three seasons with the Bills. Imagine that in today’s game... -
Chris Simms has Jones at QB3 and projects him going in the top 10. (Actually, he says he's going 3 to SF) So that's one draft analyst who says Jones is far better than the 30th ranked prospect, and he has a very good track record when it comes to ranking QB prospects.

1. I'm not sure if NFL investigators have the ability to issue legally enforceable subpoenas, but you are probably right about that. If there was an ongoing arbitration between Watson and the league, though, the league would be able to issue subpoenas. 2. That's true, but as I said, NDAs can't compel a party to remain silent in the face of a legally enforceable subpoena and Watson would have no right to withhold future payments because one of the women he settled with testified at a trial or in a deposition.
