A very large portion of the responsibility for drafting this “bust” and others during this time, falls in Modrack’s lap and the sh*tty job of running the scouting dept. If you remember he was vastly criticized for spending all, or most, of his time at his Jacksonville home. When some were calling for his head, he then promised to get out in the field more, and spend some time in Buffalo…..I got the impression that he was a part-time manager at best- enjoying the “fun-in-the-sun” and his scouts knew it…..no way to run any part of an organization.

...still the same old reason...$$$..bills don't pay lower round or undrafted FA, and they need the $ cap space because of the $50M man on the roster....

His last job was HC at Pitt, and I seem to recall something strange happened. It wasn’t clear if he voluntarily stepped down or was fired, but the strange part was that he relinquished his HC duties during the season, but was kept around for something, but was gone after the season, to the best of my knowledge…… Pitt fans?

The never ending debate of the impact of Ralph Wilson on the team…some say good and others say bad. I say, compare all 32 teams to their respective owners and who they hire, how the team is run, and how well they compete….you’ll have your answer…

Good idea, that might work….or maybe we call him and tell him it’s his old AFL buddy Al Davis calling from a very special far-away place….the only question from Ralph would be “is he calling COLLECT?”

I’m betting that Gailey, Nix, and the front office, would be overjoyed to get only ONE CALL A DAY from the meddling old fool. I hear that even his niece would welcome that as well!

My thoughts as well. The major concern I have is why there were no adjustments in the D game plan when it was obvious to even the most casual observer that what they where doing wasn’t working. You would expect that any coach at that level would be able to adjust his game plan when it is obvious that it isn’t working-if not during the first half of the game, between the forever commercials, then certainly at halftime! ….maybe he forgot his computer and left it in Buffalo……

Agreed, you point out some good examples, but I am sure one can find examples that point to just the opposite. What concerns me more than examples is the coaches’’ old adage “that you play the way you practice.” And a part of pre-season- especially the first-half of the third game is by definition practice for the first string. While some individual players excelled in their play, the team as a whole did not. And that is my concern as the third game is an important measuring tool for the coaches. I want our team to exceed, but I refuse to be in denial. If some fans need to be then so be it….but like Buddy, I also say “show me the baby.” Let’s hope they get it together, sooner, than later. Hang in there!!
