Obama to name Kagan for high court

I'm sure she's on-board with Barack's redistributive agenda. -
President Obama coming to Buffalo
keepthefaith replied to tomdayfan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It'll be in the hands of voters in Florida, NC, VA, PA, OH, NH, IN, IA and CO. All went for Obama but by smaller margins. California, Illinois and New York are still hopeless for Republicans. -
President Obama coming to Buffalo

I don't believe his spending has had any positive impact on the economy overall, nor did it prevent a depression. I also believe that we could have 10% unemployment and a stock market above $10K if he and Congress had done nothing at all. Even if I'm wrong, whatever benefit was achieved was done so at great expense. If you do the math on cars and homes sold and jobs saved or created, the cost for each car/home/job is astounding and it's added debt we cannot easily repay. Most of the jobs added have been Government jobs which add cost now and long term. The economies in Europe are teaching us a valuable lesson right now, but much of Washington isn't paying attention. Your party won't do the right things because supportive voters are ignoring the obvious. There may have been a time (Clinton years) when economic conditions were more supportive of a comfy social safety net for the less productive. Now and the near future isn't that time. That's what the numbers say. Obama ran on an agenda and even after some time in the seat he refuses to adjust based on reality. At what point do Democratic voters wake up and tell their party that enough (debt) is enough? Republicans slept at this switch for too long but now recognize the obvious. -

No, we're not afraid of him eating babies. We are afraid of the debt we're racking up which is far from fiction. Many of us had the same fear when Bush was in office but Obama has taken it to a new level in breathtaking fashion. -

Let's say that you're right and that the economy will be in better shape in terms of jobs and the stock market in '12. You would continue to support an agenda that deepens our national debt and/or raises and implements new taxes? You would expect the majority of voters to also support that? I doubt that Obama does an about face and runs on a platform of deep spending cuts which the numbers clearly say is necessary. Obama will be an easy target in '12 and there will be plenty of material to work with. He's making his bed every day. I would never hope we don't recover. I have 3 kids and believe it or not I care about their future. -
Should we spend more money on education?
keepthefaith replied to WisconsinBillzFan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
While our education system can be criticized, I can't imagine a system where we leave it up to parents to choose not to educate their kids. Home schooling is an option everywhere is it not? My point is that taxpayers are funding education and allowing kids to quit before high school graduation. We're paying for them to finish aren't we? -

Well said. Unless there is a substantial change, he'll be gone after 2012 IMO. He was given a big benefit of a doubt by many voters. His charisma and speaking ability carried him through the campaign and he had a perfect storm in which to run (very unpopular Republican predecessor, weaker speaking opponent and a down turning economy). He'll have to run on his own record in '12 and many that I talk to who suported him see his very thinly veiled plan for economic justice for certain sectors of the economy and that he pioritizes that over fiscal responsibility as we drown in debt. -
Gasoline and Diesel fuel need competitors. In the short run, Natural gas could be an option. It's under $1.50 per compressed gallon (here) and it's a viable fuel for both cars and trucks. It burns cleaner and there is an infrastructure in place for re-fueling. You can refuel a car in your garage in a few hours with some inexpensive equipment. Easy to produce piston engines that run on this. Honda has been selling a Natgas Civic in California for a while. We have the technology now to build electric/fuel hybrids that are electric powered first and gas powered second. These would have more limited daily range but can re-charge overnight and can run longer distances on any combination of gasoline, ethanol or methanol with simple ECU changes. Part flex fuel vehicle, part electric car. The Chevy Volt is close to this technology. It wouldn't take much in terms of a policy shift to ignite this marketplace. Wouldn't happen overnight but in a few years there could be enough of an impact to put pressure on OPEC and oil prices which would reduce gasoline costs. Without a competitor, oil is in charge.

Hispanics and Leftists riot in Phoenix

And a tax revenue opportunity. I'd be shocked if PR voted in favor of statehood, although the current tax code would exempt many from Federal income tax. -

This is the greatest political opportunity that the Dems have seen in decades. Give illegals what they want (citizenship with access to a social safety net) and gain 10+ million voters while mostly Republican voters pick up the tab. You really can't make an argument for anything but locking down the borders and sending as many of them home as possible and this issue will really expose the Dems agenda. -

Nor are his policies or decisions. -
I can hardly think of a more economic stifling move that one could make ($2 tax per gallon of gas). Would you also tax diesel fuel, which would raise the price of nearly every product that we buy or consume? Are you looking to light the torch of inflation and fan the flames? If no tax on diesel, do you think auto makers and consumers would make a shift to diesel powered cars to reduce their fuel costs? What's accomplished then? Are taxing and spending the only tools in your bag?

Illegal immigrants living in AZ
keepthefaith replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
1. Roadside checks for Licenses, insurance and registration where every motorist is checked. 2. Police following up on a tip they got from a call from a citizen or other source. 3. Person sees a cop and runs the other way. 4. Police know a lot more about this than I do. They have other means I'm sure. -
Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Ryan is a rising star. One of the few who isn't afraid to look at the detail, present his ideas based on the numbers and is pushing an agenda of fiscal responsibility and common sense. -

Federal Reserve chimes in on Wall Street
keepthefaith replied to Magox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Here's a letter received today from Illinois Senator Roland Burris. Gotta love the opening paragraph. My fellow Illinoisans, Over the past two years, the reckless culture of Wall Street gambling brought the American economy to the brink of collapse. Millions lost their savings, their retirements, their homes, and their sense of economic security. Families and small businesses here in Illinois and all across the country continue to feel the effects, while the big banks on Wall Street continue to operate with unregulated greed. It is time to hold Wall Street accountable and to put Illinois consumers back in control. The American taxpayers should never again have to bail out another financial institution. The financial reform bill, now before the United States Senate, contains aggressive measures to ban these bailouts and to end the idea of "Too Big To Fail." This legislation increases oversight to better monitor these banks and their practices, prevents risky gambling on Wall Street, and creates sweeping new levels of transparency and consumer protections. As a former banker myself, I strongly support this tough new legislation. It is time to put Main Street ahead of Wall Street and to guarantee that the working families of Illinois will never again be called upon to bail out Wall Street bankers. I am proud to represent you in the U.S. Senate and remain committed to fighting for your interests every day. Please visit my website at burris.senate.gov or contact me with any questions or concerns. -
National Guard may be called into Chicago
keepthefaith replied to WisconsinBillzFan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It is a terrific city, but the politics of the entire state are astoundingly bad. Illinois has a long history of corruption and some of the leftmost nuts are in office here or have been in office here. Obama, Durbin, Burris, Blago, Jackson Jr., Stroger, Guttierez, Rostenkowski, Emanuel, Ryan and Bobby Rush come to mind. We could easily quadruple the list if we put our mind to it. -
Bernake advises that the US cut the deficit
keepthefaith replied to John Adams's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Obama needs public support for allowing the Bush cuts to expire on the upper earners while preserving those cuts for those at the middle and lower brackets. Of course we have to be "fearful" that if we don't address the deficit through taxation, then education, SS, medicare and defense will have to be cut. Nothing else of course needs to be cut or should be cut. -
