I had the same initial reaction so I watched it again, keeping one eye on the game clock (which is always visible on the screen these days). That guy looks like he is in a Keystone Kops movie and everyone else is in real time.

That's the fat guy I want.

That's debatable, really. I think we can all think of 2 or 3 MINNERs bigger than Tebow without even trying hard. kj

Get those statements in a youtube video and the easiest job in the world becomes campaign manager for whomever Smerlas would be challenging in the election. kj

Kiobe wasn't a full starter until his 4th year

Completely, completely bad analogy, like comparing unripe crab apples to a perfectly ripened navel orange that someone picked, put on a plate, and started to peel for you. No one--no one--questioned Kobe's skills coming into the NBA. No one. The debate was: is he going to be a superstar or merely really good? The adjustments he had to make had a lot to do with learning the game (esp. defense) and not changing his shot or re-learning how to do anything. There are legitimate questions about whether T2 will ever be a starting-quality QB in the NFL. Not even close to comparable. kj -
I think the moral issues go beyond what the user does to his or her body. The violence that the international drug trade creates should be part of the equation (look at Mexico currently, the Taliban/poppy connection, etc.). Liquor use can kill obviously, but Seagrams hasn't executed any pregnant women to secure their market share lately. kj

I'm not buying it. I watched him in multiple games where he had that blue screen of death look about him. He needs a hard reboot too often for my tastes.

I think you are right, in that you are describing the NFL that Jones, Snyder, and some others are pushing for: an NFL that no longer follows Pete Rozelle's model. But I think that, to a certain extent, Jones et al are no longer completely in the driver seat and that their version of the NFL might well be shortlived. 2 things defined their NFL, it seems: stadium upgrades or demo/rebuilds to ensure franchise competitiveness, and rapidly growing TV revenues. You want to keep up with Jones & Snyder, you better put together a state of the art facility. But a good chunk of stadium work has been publicly funded and that well is probably on its way to drying up. And it will be interesting to see what happens to TV revenues the next time the contracts are renegotiated. A point of information: the TV contracts for 2011 are guaranteed, even if there is no season. DirectTV will pay $1 billion in 2011 regardless. Which is to say that I could foresee future negotiations between the league and TV to be driven in part by a sense that they overpaid for broadcast rights the last time around. kj -
I like that you put all of the asterisks before the 'records', rather than waiting until after to indicate that they are tainted records. (Yeah, some of them are set after the cheating was revealed, but that team gets no breaks from me. Cuz they're cheaters.)

I would say that Goodell and the owners need to upgrade their business model before a serious conversation can be had about upgrading RWS. For the past several years, the NFL has been structured around growing the league through the use of public money for most (not all: see New England, Giants/Jets) stadium upgrades or construction. I think that any city or county is going to have a hard time coughing up much beyond infrastructure improvements (adjustments to roadways for parking lot entrances; sewer and water connects) moving forward. The other piece of NFL income, tv contracts, is also going to be interesting if there is a lockout. The payout from Direct TV and the networks is guaranteed even if there is no season. How do negotiations for the next round of tv contracts go, if the NFL asks DirectTV for a cool billion for the rights to exactly nothing? Jones, Kraft and the like have been very good at positioning their franchises for the next NFL, the post Rozelle/Tagliabue, post-parity NFL. They have worked to grow the distance between the small and big market teams through non-shared revenues and whittled away at the system of profit sharing. Jones in particular has benefited from a lot of public dollars for his new stadium, and he has leveraged that public support to grow significantly Cowboys revenues that aren't shared. The problem is that the current economic environment means that their version of the NFL is going to have a very short life. kj

O lines make QBs look better or worse depending on their performance. But the opposite is true, too. QBs make their o lines look good through smart decision making, pocket presence, timely audibles, etc. We have had a long string of o lines who weren't worth their paychecks, and a long string of QBs that made their lines look worse. That is my uninformed assessment of Edwards: he played behind a crappy, crappy line and made them look even worse. kj

Nothing a shot of penicillin won't fix, I'm sure.

It could be worse. We used to know we hit rock bottom because we were in 5th place! So we got that going for us. 1984 Final Standings

I want the Bills to draft the fat guy who scored the TD on the interception return. That was sweet. kj

You could either make room for Campbell, or he would make room for himself. Skoal, Brother. -
Well then he has crucial experience, having already been thoroughly outcoached by Belicheat (Super Bowl vs. Giants: more Thurman, less Kelly). kj

At some I stopped gritting my teeth and just laughed.

Patri*ts are the most vulnerable they have been in years--and they are still just a small speck on the far horizon to the Bills.

At least his yards per attempt didn't go down!

The defensive coaches heard the rumors about Moss dogging it in recent weeks and decided not to gameplan for him.

2nd and 20+ and we throw a short pass to TE and a WR screen.
