Garage: what’s it to ya?
apuszczalowski replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I noticed today, fewer and fewer people use their garage for parking vehicles. It's typically for storage of junk and outdoor stuff. In my current house I finally have a garage but I have spent years trying to organize and clean it to set up all my tools that it's still just a storage building for my stuff and the kids outdoor Toys. I would love to have a shop where I can do woodworking and have a vehicle to rebuild in it. I have the tools, just not the room, lol -

I take my comment back after seeing the worst front office in baseball give up their title by fleecing the Jays today. Yesterday they were asking the Yankees for Dedi and one of their top pitching prospects, today they settled on a potential #4-5 starter struggling in AAA, and a potential high ceiling guy who may see the majors 3-5 years from now if they are lucky..... -
There's really 2 types of unions out there, one representing the trades and factory jobs and ones for other positions. The one that usually get the bad rap is the first because they are usually more in favor of doing the minimum and your job only as to not show up other workers. The other usually is just there to handle grievances and negotiate bargaining agreements. That's the one I have worked in and very rarely did I ever hear or see them protecting someone who didn't deserve their job and the workers would do their jobs and then some.

I just saw this episode today, he tried to sell him the set for $1,200 which worked out to $50 each, although i thought he found $50 in his pocket that he paid for it (when he found the money he then assumed it was Chandlers pants) **I was watching ti on Canadian TV so they may have said $50 which would be about $20 if the 50 was Canadian converted into American** -

In the Friends episode where a salesman tries to sell Joey Encyclopedias, who was the Salesman? What does Joey end up buying and for how much? -
Didn't the Red Sox David Ortiz fail for the same reason?

They are taking huge hits because of changes in governments. Trump and the Republicans aren't behind giving tax incentives to people to push green energy. Same thing in Ontario, Ford's conservatives came in and immediately got rid of almost all the green incentives the previous liberal government's had in place. Now without the huge incentives, people can't afford to go green and the industry is taking a hit. There were big incentives in place to by electric cars here in Ontario that made their prices closer to what you would pay for a similar gas model. There were also big incentives in place for Solar panels to be installed on houses, I knew people that said the bank had no hesitation to increase their mortgage and give them money when they went in to ask after being approved for the solar program because the government gave big returns for it. Solar companies were going door to door looking to get you to sign agreements to 'lease' your roof space so they can install panels on them. Since the new government came in these incentives have gone away and now the same companies are struggling to survive cause very few people have the extra cash to invest in installing panels on their house and the average person is priced out of the market for an electric car.

Did the voice change at certain times? I dont remember Cheech voicing him all the time. -
I can understand the views of this from both sides. If you start working through breaks, the employer sees that maybe they aren't necessary and then you lose them, or they will come to expect you to do more instead of taking breaks. Some of it may also be labour board rules too, requiring you to take breaks instead of working straight through. At the last place I worked at, we took breaks because they would have had us work through them if we didn't for no extra pay. There were days while I was out where I would work through breaks and my lunch because we were busy and I wanted to get things done. I was given an hour for lunch (unpaid) and 2 - 15 minute (paid) breaks every day that I would work through. I would put this down as overtime because they wanted us to work overtime to get things done, but I really didn't want to work past my usually time. Since my lunch was unpaid, I was working over time but it wasnt after my usual work hours. Management told me they would not pay overtime for working through lunch, I was forced to take an hour off during the day and stay an extra hour to get things done (They wanted us to work overtime so they could show that we need to increase staff). Management said that the labour laws stated I needed to take a lunch break and if I didn't , I did not have to be compensated for it. I worked different types of people. There were the ones who didn't care about the union much, it was good to have to protect us from management just deciding to do things to us and let us go just because they felt like it, and then I worked with older tradesmen who were heavily pro union. They were the ones who would memorize the union contracts and make sure everyone worked according to it. They didnt take kindly to people willing to do more then what was required of them

Good Music Documentaries
apuszczalowski replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Even as a huge Metallica fan, I wouldn't rate Lars as one of the best drummers, but in many cases, you don't need to be the best at it for a band to be good. And its tough to compare when your not comparing the same genres of music, some types of music require better skills then others As for Peart and Page, its very hipster to take a popular opinion and widely regarded fact and say the opposite. Peart may not be 'God like', but he is definitely in the top 10. Page may be one of the better guitarists based on the era that he played. If your a drummer, you might enjoy Fred Armasans (from SNL) Stand-up special that he did called 'Stand-up for Drummers' i believe. His entire special is all about drums, being a drummer and music. It wasn't bad, might be more enjoyable for people who are really into drumming. -

I don't remember that one -
I find unions all depend on where you work and which ones your a part of. I worked the same job in 2 different places with different Union 'chapters'. The one place the union was great, negotiated fair contracts and had good relationships with the employer. There was never really issues with bad workers but they would help with greviances when issues came up. Every year they had a Christmas party for workers families, we all got gift cards for local grocery store to get our 'turkey' at Christmas and last meeting of the year all members were invited for pizza and wings. Worked at another place, same employment but at least twice the staff. I questioned what was the point to having the union and paying dues cause we got nothing from them. No Christmas party or gift cards (said the union could give us anything). Twice I went to talk to them about a few issues (being denied a move that I was qualified for and not being given a chance at another that I was mostly qualified for) and they refused to do anything about it. There was a belief by many in my department that the union president was wanting an upper management position and was happing out the employers side in issues to try and suck up to get in their good side. Now I'm in the same job somewhere else and we are not unionized and there's not much of a difference.

I was thinking it was early Fresh Prince, was it Chris Rock playing 2 characters? -
The last few years it seems the weather is getting more extreme, we are getting alot more rain in shorter periods of time. We don't get the day or 2 of light steady rain, it now comes down all at once for an hour then cloudy the rest of the time.

Sack Lunch? I believe it was that episode cause everyone kept going on about how great the English patient was and Elaine would rather go see Sack Lunch. The only other one I could think of was Rachel Rachel (was that the movie stolen from George's car?) And I cant remember the submarine movie they went to see and if it was real or not. Was it Arsenio? Chris Rock played a girl on one episode I believe and was supposed to go on a date with Carelton -

I have seen some comments elsewhere referencing them coming up to the time where Winona Ryder was getting big and if they would reference things with her which could be funny. -
Players have been doing this every year, trying to out do each other showing up in different things, its nothing new and getting kinda old. No one really cares and most players probably think it's fun/funny to see what they are going to do. I doubt any of them take it as seriously and are offended like some here appear to be.

It was alright, always on in reruns now and my wife liked it. Most just don't picture Joey they kind of person who would be reading classic literature like those books... And I'm sure 90s sitcoms is just one of the many things on the list of stuff he doesn't have good taste in..... Baseball being another....... Yup, couldn't remember his name, he was the guy who never seemed to be a fan of George working there. The daughter was a young Leah Remini IIRC? -
It's not just churches, many old, especially historic building can be extreme fire hazards because they are Wood framed and that old lumber is dry. Churches are more common because many are very old buildings and they don't have the budgets for constant extensive upkeep. You also run into historical/heritage groups that argue about having to install sprinklers or other suppression systems in because they would take away from the historical value of the building by not being original. I guess that like usually, all those big donation gestures by the super wealthy out there have been slow to trickle in. Some may be waiting to get input and influence in what their money will be going to rebuild, others may want their money to go towards certain aspects of the rebuild and not be used to just pay for the cleanup, maintenance and workers who are there now.

I remember growing up in the 80's and 90's and having at least periods in the summer where we had more cooler temps and more rain. I remember taking swimming lessons in the morning and having days where no one wanted to get in the water cause it was cold. Now it seems to be little rain with stretches of extreme heat. Although this spring/summer started off cool this year. It wasn't until late June that anyone I know was swimming outside and had pools open. Father's Day was cool enough to wear pants and a light jacket. It seems that there's a less gradual change in the temperature now, we seem change temperatures and seasons much quicker. Also seems like the weather is about a month behind the calendar now.
