I know the clip is on the 1st Don Cherry Rock-em Sock-em Hockey (no the videos aren't as dumb as the name implies, although the music is pretty pathetic) and assume you could find it via a google search. Ironically, Sykes was a King when he "fought" Gretzky. Getting off thread, the DCRSH videos have some of the greatest stupid hockey quotes ever. Stuff like "Little Alan Bester has seen more rubber than a dead skunk on the Trans Canada Highway", and (this is paraphrasing) "Wendall Clark with 1/2 a back is better than most guys with a full back". Trust me, they DO sound good when Cherry says them. The videos also have some of the prettiest "tic-tac-toe" goals you could ever hope to see. (And some of the best bone jarring hits and hockey fights ever. I guarantee the Campbell - Umberger hit will be there soon.) I've only got the 1st 6, but he does a new one every year and he must be up to at least 14 by now.

OK, that's cool. I'm just disappointed that you didn't like the Phil Sykes reference as he is in all probability the only guy out of the handful (and we are talking Mites through NHL Alumni games) that Wayner "fought" that DIDN'T kick his butt. I don't know if the "fight" could be found through a search of GG's site, but it is truly hilarious for the sheer patheticness (is that a word?) of it. Kurri trying to get a "3rd man in" penalty just completes the scene.

I don't have a problem with soccer fans as I actually like to watch World Cup games and actually go to indoor games (or at least I used to before the Blizzard folded). I didn't start the p*ssing match (don't think you did either actually), but was merely pointing out the fact that Gretzky not being a bruiser really isn't an indictment of the guy nor the sport.

I can honestly say that I have never seen a commercial during a US broadcast of OT during a period. I have seen commercials during intermission, but not while play is on-going. The networks don't typically sell advertising for events that they do not know will happen (which is an oversight on their part IMHO). I also know that the "red light" (which signifies a 100 second TV timeout) that goes on after the 1st play stoppage during evenstrength play after the 14:00, 10:00, and 6:00 marks does NOT go on at the rinks.

Bush Seemingly Resigned to High Gas Prices

I still think it is unusual for Congresscritters to not grandstand an issue even though their actions were extremely integral in creating the issue. -
Eliot Spitzer to solve NYS' economic problems

Yeah, well no plan is perfect. -
Didn't they cure that in a movie 5 or 10 years ago? How could it not be passe?

If it is a US broadcast, there are 0 commercials. It's been too long since I've seen a HNIC, TSN, or Roger's Sportsnet playoff OT broadcast to say for certain that there are none of the 10 second spots during those broadcasts.

Happy B-day, 15 minutes late. Of course, on the left coast it is still your birthday, so nevermind about being late.
-
OK, so every man alive (with the exception of Phil Sykes) can beat up Wayne Gretzky. How many of your soccer playing buddies could beat up "Cement Head" Semenko or McSorley? Not many (or more accurately, NONE). Neither could many hockey players, which is why Gretzky didn't have to fight much.

Dead nuts, straight on, hit the nail on the head. You definitely understand the show.

I haven't been able to watch much of this series yet but (at least until I started typing this, as Calgary just scored to make it a 1 goal game) they seem to be doing well tonight. I expect that this should be an excellent series. It is the one Western series I picked to go 7 because I actually think it is that even and not because I couldn't figure out where the upset would occur!

OLN's TV Crew during Saturday nights game
Taro T replied to Catholic Guilt's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does anyone know which network's (of the 4 networks broadcasting the game last night) camera crews worked the game last night. I haven't watched the entire MSG broadcast yet, but for the "Carubba Collisions" shown on the Jumbotron, the camera work was horrible. I don't know if OLN gets to put in their crew or if it was MSG's because it was a Buffalo home game. If it was MSG cameramen, I'm thinking several regulars scheduled vacation for this weekend. I actually don't hate OLN's broadcasts but do hate Brickley and Edwards. Beneditti (sp?) and Eliot are decent (not great, but there are several that are much worse) and I've actually gotten used to the "Rangers" broadcasters over the years (don't love them, but can tolerate them). The only broadcasters besides RJ and Jim that I do really like are CBC's crews and surprisingly the LA Kings' crew. -
Really? Ooooohhh. Has he made his way to the level where you can float over the couch or does he still have to jump up and down like an imbecile?

Why would anyone pay attention to sub-Sahara Africa? Apartheid is gone. Everything else is wine and roses, right?

Eliot Spitzer to solve NYS' economic problems
Taro T replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I've put up the good fight, but if Eliot increases the # of CSEA members, it just might be time to throw in the towel. My wife and I could both make very good livings in the Detroit or Chicago areas. -
But it wasn't Koharski! It wasn't even Marouelli! It was some no name ECHL or lower level zebra. I will not give it up. You can't make me. (Actually knowing some of your hobbies, you probably can; but that's my story and I'm sticking with it.)

No, you SHOULDN'T let TV or Congress dictate foreign policy, but we apparently do allow it (at least in this case). Combining Congresscritter foolishness (or shortsightedness or self-interest or whatever you want to call it) with our apparent ignoring of South America, should make for some interesting issues for the next President to have to deal with. Ignoring SA and showing Muslims that we are racists doesn't exactly seem like the best foreign policies, but hey maybe it'll work.

The mistake was not made by the ref. It was made by the league. I've never stated that the Sabres would definitely win the series were "no goal" called correctly; but I definitely liked the Sabres chances better by allowing them to continue to compete for the SC vs. just AWARDING it to the Stars. I agree that Gelinas' goal should have counted. That has absolutely nothing to do with what happened in 1999.
-
How is "no goal" exaggerated. The league, by it's own admission didn't follow it's own WRITTEN procedures. Regardless the phantom memo claiming the play was good (and it wasn't), according to the RULEBOOK in effect in 1999, the REFEREE IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE THE FINAL DECISION ON ALL REVIEWED GOALS. Gregson is on record as being told by the people upstairs that the goal was good. He is also on record as stating that he couldn't see Hull in the crease because Holzinger was falling in front of him. Had Gregson known that Hull was in the crease prior to the puck entering the crease (which is what happened) he would have WAIVED OFF the apparent "goal". The people in the replay booth were only supposed to tell Gregson the order of events and HE was supposed to make the decision. The league stated that the play was reviewed upstairs and the decision was made in the VIDEO BOOTH to allow the goal. That is #$@!#@!%. The lazy SOB's gave the world another example of how the league was a garage league.

No data on attendance. Since I moved to Rochester, I make it to about 1 Bandits game every 2-3 years in HSBC. Try to go to a game in Rochester as well, but didn't make it this year. Bandits will crush your pathetic swarm. Bwah, ha, ha, ha, ha.

My favorites: A President needs political understanding to run the government, but he may be elected without it. Harry S. Truman Experience has shown how deeply the seeds of war are planted by economic rivalry and social injustice. Harry S. Truman In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over themselves... self-discipline with all of them came first. Harry S. Truman It is understanding that gives us an ability to have peace. When we understand the other fellow's viewpoint, and he understands ours, then we can sit down and work out our differences. Harry S. Truman Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better. Harry S. Truman Most of the problems a President has to face have their roots in the past. Harry S. Truman Those who want the Government to regulate matters of the mind and spirit are like men who are so afraid of being murdered that they commit suicide to avoid assassination. Harry S. Truman To hell with them. When history is written they will be the sons of bitches - not I. Harry S. Truman When you have an efficient government, you have a dictatorship. Harry S. Truman You can always amend a big plan, but you can never expand a little one. I don't believe in little plans. I believe in plans big enough to meet a situation which we can't possibly foresee now. Harry S. Truman The list ended up longer than I expected it to be.

Bush Seemingly Resigned to High Gas Prices
Taro T replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Wouldn't know. Since they closes Neeland's (sp?) Dairy there isn't much reason to stop there except for LaPaloma's. -
I know there's a Chuck E Cheese's joke in there somewhere, but it's just not working today.

Well, Alden always was a pretty barbaric place.
