A misdemeanor is bringing the hammer down? The chick was treated and released, bruise and stitches...Doesn't make driving away right, but also isn't equivalent to leaving a dying person laying in the road. I'd take leaving the scene of an accident over DUI any day. The hammer Lynch needs to fear is from the chick's lawyer, and Roger Goodell. -
VERY clever. How many people are going to continue to steal this gay line? I give you credit for beating Ramius to the punch though. I saw pictures of the HSBC Arena in the paper before it was built. Just an FYI, when something is proposed- ["to offer or suggest for consideration or acceptance"]- people want to see a rendering of what it may look like. In fact, colored renderings are often REQUIRED by building departments for permit approval. If you read the article without the picture, you would be wondering what the hell the design looked like. But if they include a picture, it is an opportunity for a snarky comment. Sweet.

No doubt...I'm not trying to sell short the accomplishment of four AFC Championships in a row, but how good was the AFC??? Just playing devil's advocate here, don't pounce, but at that point the AFC was mired in about 13 straight losing Super Bowls...And the Bills beat FOUR different teams in each of their four AFC title games, including a Raiders team that lost the game when they saw the weather report, an ugly win over the Broncos, and the destruction of a VERY average Chiefs team...It wasn't like there was another powerhouse in the conference that was a struggle to get through...That Miami road game was a great win, the Fins thought they were ready to punch their ticket... There is no denying it is a great accomplishment that will likely never be repeated. And it's not the Bills fault if the conference was weak, you have to beat the team that lines up against you, which they did more often than not. But I agree, I'd take 1-for-1 in the Super Bowl over 0-for-4 any day. -

I'm not following....What does any of this has to do with Norwood going on the Wall? Because he cried and he was sorry he missed? The 12th Man is already up there. -

Please. Norwood was serviceable at best, he was far from "a hell of a kicker." He pushed that 47-yarder to the right because he had to slam it...He wasn't positive his weak-ass leg could get it there. I'm not saying a 47-yarder to win the Super Bowl is easy, but if you're a "hell of a kicker," 47 shouldn't be the top of your range either. Just like that one kick shouldn't cloud the perception of his career, we shouldn't overrate his career because we feel he's been unjustly criticized for that one kick. If Norwood goes on the wall, then so should Leonard Smith, Don Beebe, Jeff Wright, and countless other players who did their jobs. Save it for the greats only. Scotty doesn't qualify, IMO. -
Dude, I'm a fan of the sport and I've taken MANY naps during soccer games...I can only imagine the boredom if you don't really care...It's perfect for napping...You wake up 70 minutes later and it's still 0-0, or in the event of a goal, usually the announcer's yelling might wake you up to catch a replay. What can you do? There's plenty of games that aren't exactly riveting, especially if you don't really care about the nuances of the game. No biggie. It's ok to laugh at jokes every so often...Nobody needs to carry the banner for soccer fans on a football message board.

Let's see if the USA has found a player in the past week who actually has the skill and confidence to attack a defender and try to make something happen...They had ZERO confidence against England...Every player was looking to get rid of the ball immediately after receiving it, and most of the time they were getting rid of it right to an English player. The sad part is, this US roster is their European-based players, who are supposed to be used to that level and speed of play. You could see a young MLS-based roster feeling overwhelmed, but these guys are supposed to be our legit players. I thought a few years ago that Dempsey had the chance to be a transcendant US player, with enough skill and confidence to take on some of the best defenders in the world. He seems to have peaked just before the '06 World Cup and hasn't played at that level since. He used to be electric every time he took the field...Now he looks like any old Joe Schmoe.

I realize the core of Pittsburgh's stars are pretty young, but they do have a large chunk of their roster that is 25 and older....Count me as one who thinks that experience, while certainly helpful, is vastly overrated by commentators and analysts. It doesn't hurt that Pittsburgh has Crosby (#1 overall), Fleury (#1 overall), Staal (#2 overall), Malkin (#2 overall) and Whitney (#5 overall) plus mid-1st rounders Sykora, Hossa, etc. etc. Teams could play together in the playoffs for 10 years, and their "experience" isn't going to overcome that talent. It's quite a contrast with Pittsburgh's top picks shining, while Detroit has not had a top-10 draft pick since 1990. That's crazy. All in all, incredible game last night...Speed and skill...Pens looked left for dead in the 3rd and were generating nothing offensively, but came through at the end...Nice job by Fleury in the 3rd and in OT to give them a chance.

Anybody watch the Ultimate XC fight last night?
LongLiveRalph replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I was really kicking myself as I was watching those fights that I didn't lay any money on them....First time in primetime on a national network, was there ANY DOUBT that CBS, Ultimate XC, and the refs were going to MAKE SURE that the "hot girl" and Kimbo got the victories??? Those were the locks of the year and I blew it... -

Yeah, the last 10 years of NBA hoops has been pretty weak...An influx of foreign players who we'd never heard of mixed with a bunch of entitled high school hotshots simply looking to make ESPNs Top 10 dunks every night. But this regular season was incredible, especially with the caliber of play in the Western Conference, and it has continued to impress me in the playoffs. And I had been the same as you, pretty turned off by hoops recently. As for the NHL, I agree, some of the earlier rounds were ok...I hate the Habs but they were fun to watch, and I would've enjoyed watching Ovechkin a bit more in the playoffs. I was expecting MUCH more out of the Philly-Pitt series. In the West, I suppose my eyes were on the Sharks (the Calgary-SJ series was sweet in Rd 1) simply to see what Brown and Grier and Campbell could do. Really, a pretty lackluster effort from them, they hardly showed any fire until they were down 3-1 to Dallas. And it's hard not to appreciate the continued excellence of the Red Wings. It seems like an instant replay of last year where the Sens ran wild through the East, and the offense looked unstoppable, and then Anaheim just owned them. The Western Conference teams seem to play with a physical presence that isn't as consistent in the East, and those teams excel in the grind 'em out, 2-1 victory. Pittsburgh has proven they can win those games, but like the '07 Senators, I think they are more comfortable in a 5-4 game. I think Detroit in 5. And I'll say Lakers in 6 over the Celtics.

Not sure which NBA playoffs you've been watching but this has been by far the league's best postseason in a decade. I realize there is some serious anti-Kobe venom out there, but if you enjoy the sport of basketball then watch the Lakers. They run an offense that is not like any other in the NBA (see: ball movement and motion), they play enthusiastic and energetic defense, and they happen to have the game's best player. And they have the defending champs on the ropes to go to their first Finals since the Shaq era. And in the East, the two teams who were head-and-shoulders above the rest of the conference all season will likely go 7 games to determine who makes it to the Finals. I am a big hockey fan, and the NHL playoffs haven't been anywhere near the excitement that the NBA postseason has provided, IMO. I didn't catch much of last night's game, but the first two in Detroit were suffocating and boring as hell.

GARBAGE. The Italian wet dream is winning 1-0 on a bullschit PK...They'd draw 'em all up like that if they could. And the guy actually fought through a real foul outside of the box, and then goes down under a gust of wind 5 yards later...

US Soccer = Bills red zone offense Stale, unimaginative, and unproductive, and usually ends with a ball being kicked high over a goalpost. It's been that way for years for both squads. Ugh.

The '06 World Cup was horrible in this regard and even became borderline unwatchable for me, and I would consider myself a fan. The diving was absolutely pathetic and did a major disservice to the game. I have been watching soccer for many years and overall, that was as bad as I recall ever seeing. And I realize it happens in other sports to some degree (see Derek Roy or Manu Ginobili attempting to draw pentalties/fouls) but the difference in the last World Cup was that there were 65 different camera angles on every game, and the players would roll around on the ground in agony and get stretchered off the field even as four replays show he didn't even get touched. Man up, go hard, and don't expect the ref to bail you out when you lose your dribble.
