1. Las weekend, someone gave me crap for wearing a BU hockey jersey to a BU game. She said something like 'only the students should wear jerseys'. My question is, do you think there is a point where you are officially too old to wear a jersey?

Obviously, I have no problem with people wearing jerseys to games, other than basketball jerseys, which look ridiculously stupid. Football and hockey jerseys are fine, as long as you're not wearing them in public all the time.

  2. Also I would recommend graphite shafts.  They twist less (stiffer torsion) than steel shafts thus produce straighter shots for off center hits.  So again, steel shafts are only for people who want to shape their shots.

I've never actually paid too much attention to that, but I would've thought it was the other way around. Graphite has more flex (so if you have a fast swing speed, that's not so good for irons), so I would've assumed that the torsion would be the same.

  3. It's really a personal thing.  I'd suggest going to a Edwin Watts-type place and hitting some irons.  Try Cavity-back and blades.  Also, try some oversized grips and see how they feel.  Don't forget to ensure the shaft stiffness (cue Beavis laugh) suits your swing.

    STAY AWAY FROM BLADES!

With the scoring range he mentioned, blades would probably be a terrible option. The only people who should be using blades are pros, and a lot of them won't go near them. They're very effective clubs IF you have the great swing to go along with them.

If you're really serious, the best option would be to try out a lot of clubs as others have suggested. When you make up your mind, get them fitted. A lot of places will do this for free if you're buying the clubs from them.

  4. Palmer will make a miraculous recovery and be back on his feet in 20 hours :w00t:

One thing I've always wondered is does Jack Bauer ever take a potty break, or does he have a super strong bladder and just hold it for 24 hours?

I read an article on cnn.com the other day that said they actually shot a short scene about that for this season. It may not air though.

  5. Even the "knowledgeable" Leaf fans do it just as bad.

    It's a hockey thing.

It's even worse when you're watching a team with a terrible powerplay. I'm a Boston University season ticket holder and our power play never shoots. Even worse, they just stand still while passing back and forth. The building only seats about 6k, but the screaming is probably louder than any other building I've ever been in.

  6. Hockey is easily the best sport to attend in person and likely the worst to watch on television (though more palatable now with the rule changes).  Football is probably the polar opposite.

It's hard to imagine that any sport could be worse on tv than baseball.

  7. Not every team is willing to give up good prospects for your dump-offs.  Drury is a stud and will likely show his metal in the playoffs - as he always does.  Calgary is alot like Buffalo in the way they build their team (not similiar players, though).  It was a good trade for both sides.

I like the deal too, but I'd love it if we still had Ballard. He should be mentioned when talking about that trade. Calgary wanted Reinprecht badly, and the only way to get him from Colorado was by sending them Ballard.

  8. Giving up Warrener for Drury (essentially) -- Good.

You missed one important detail of that trade. The Sabres also moved Keith Ballard. Ballard has all the makings of a stud defenseman and it would be nice to have him on the blue line right now. I'd probably rather have Drury at this point, but I do wish they could've thrown in a different prospect instead.

  9. inconclusive evidence my f-n-ass. this is the bs buffalo puts up with

all the time. There is no way they could have had conclusive evidence '

    from that angle.

If Marty fell back completely into the net, would you still waive off the goal? The ruling on the goal was very simple. The puck was inside his glove which was completely inside the net.

  10. Believe it or not, Lindy Ruff & Biron said the replay booth called the league office in Toronto to find out if Palffy's goal was in or not.

Every single reviewed goal in the NHL is done in Toronto. They want things to be called the same way in every game. Just don't ask what happens if two goals have to be reviewed at the same time.

  11. Great story.  Inspiration as well.

I love that quote from McKee at the end - "the only other team that he is associated well has done pretty darn well."

    534824

Yeah, they had won 3 consecutive World Series and then he started singing at their games. They haven't won since. :o

  12. Now consider the angle of the camera.

    534694

I watched the TSN feed, so I can't speak for what was shown on MSG. The NHL had an overhead view that TSN didn't have at first. I'm assuming you're thinking of the shot from the corner that TSN showed a couple times. That one was inconclusive, but the overhead was clear as day.

  13. Complain all you want, it was a goal. Marty's entire glove (except for maybe the padding over his wrist) was over the line. If they didn't have that overhead view, it wouldn't have counted, but oh well.

By the way, all replayed goals league-wide are reviewed in the NHL headquarters in Toronto. That has a lot to do with why the review took so long.

  14. It's one guy's misguided opinion.  I'm not too concerned over his opinion now, nor will I be concerned later in the season when he ranks the Sabres higher.

I'm more concerned with what Dallas thinks of them on Thursday and Pittsburgh thinks on Monday.  Hopefully they come away thinking the Sabres are pretty good.

    529486

It's not even his opinion. He uses some mathematical formula for the rankings. Even simple math hates Buffalo.

  15. Biron's Goals Against Average is at it's highest point and his Save Percentage at it's lowest since 1995-96.  Blame some of this on the "new NHL" with better scoring opportunities.  However, I was surprised to find these stats as in a few of these recent games (Montreal) Biron has come up with some big saves.

    526490

Take out Biron's stats against Ottawa and those number should look a lot better. I'm too lazy to do it myself right now.

  16. They HAVE to make a deal.

Miller, Dumont and Briere are on injured reserve. Once they are healthy, the Sabres are required to activate them (part of the players agreement). Once one or more of them arre activated, someone has to be sent down to Rochester (if possible) or traded or waived. They are allowed to keep only 23 people on the active roster.

As part of the players agreement, most of the experienced players would have to be exposed to waivers before being sent to Rochester.

    526043

Briere was never placed on IR. Also, the Sabres are currently carrying 22 players (including Briere). When Miller is activated, no one has to be sent down. As for Dumont, that's so far off in the future, if he comes back at all this year. That is not a concern right now.
