What exactly is the difference between an open club and what this forum currently is? That’s one thing I’ve never been clear on since you started them here and on sabrespace. I see that they can have their own moderators, but does that mean you and your mods never touch them or can’t touch them (other than you, of course)? I’d have to imagine that if you became aware of something you don’t want on your site, you and probably others have the power to shut that down.
So if that’s the case, is it essentially a sub-forum with an additional moderator or two?

You've got your place to go.
That was always my argument: TBD would be better without PPP and the gang could go hang out anywhere. Looks like Foxx and some others started an invision board. Right now it appears to be a kumbaya fest.
I have to say, the stalker-vibe here is a bit creepy.-

Boy, paying a defenseman on the wrong side of 30 that kinda coin for that term is risky.
I'm really curious to see Hall in Blue and Gold. He's a real difference maker.
I didn't realize he was already 30. The bigger guys always seem to break down quicker, which makes me wonder how in the hell Chara lasted as long as he has. I can't remember ever seeing such a huge difference between the contracts signed by the top two free agents. I'm still baffled by what the Sabres pulled off.
All I can think of is a while back when Selanne and Kariya as a package deal both signed one year deals with the Avs. Where is our second part of the package?

Ahhhhhh...the risk injury arguement.
Name the last 3 good NHL players that got hurt in their contract year and lost out on big paydays.
They don't typically get to that point. You look across the recent history of this league and you'll find a long list of long-term contracts since the money is guaranteed. This one is a rarity. Do you seriously think the expansion draft actually crossed Hall's mind for even a second? That's a far more outlandish theory than anything else stated here.
And it may not necessarily have been in contract years, but I can think of several NHL players who lost significant amounts of money due to injuries. My mind immediately goes to head injuries and to guys like Pat LaFontaine, Paul Kariya, and Eric Lindros. I'd be much more interested in look at the guys who ended their career fairly recently due to injury but still soaked in multi-year contracts after that injury:
-Marc Savard (played 25 games out of a 7 year $28 million contract)
-David Clarkson (played roughly 2 years worth of a 7 year $37 contract)
-Rick DiPietro still looking at 10 more years of checks from the Islanders

Again, no that isn't what he's doing.
Have you ever stopped to think Hall
wants to be here long-term and there is the expansion draftvnext season and the Sabres can only protect so many players? Hall will be a UFA at the time of the expansion draft next season and the Sabres will not have to protect him.
And Hall has a NMC, NTC clause in this contract so that theiry of yours that they will move him doesn't hold water.
The Sabres are already talking about Hall being here long-term. He will be unless thos season totally goes south.
And, again, GM's aren't going to back up the Brinks truck because of one season with Jack Eichel. GM's around the league have had many years to see whT exactly Taylor Hall is.
So he's willing to risk injury on a one year deal just to help a team with the expansion draft? He's rolling the dice on earning a much bigger contract and there's nothing wrong with that. Still, it's a big game. Strangely enough, he made it on the same day that Dak Prescott's ankle exploded.
If it was actually about the expansion draft, which player exactly are they saving because of it? Looking over the roster, you're getting down to the likes of Thompson/Mittelstadt/Girgensons. I really don't see a "you'd hate to lose that guy" beyond the limit of what we can protect among the forwards.
Eichel
Reinhart
Skinner (required to protect)
Okposo (required to protect)
Olofsson
They can protect 7 forwards, unless they want to save more than 3 defensemen. I can't see them too worried about any of the D beyond Dahlin/Jokiharju, so they'll stick to just 3 D. So unless we add another long-term forward or 2, Hall being added to that protection list would still leave an open slot for whichever of the two kids steps up this year. I guess you can now protect both worry-free, but I don't expect both Thompson and Mittelstadt to both thrive this year.

Rolling the dice on one year with Eichel and then much more open wallets post-covid. Very risky, but hey, it works for us.

It’s tough to read much of anything from what happened today. Very little of significance happened anywhere around the league. The bigger signings, a Markstrom or a Holtby, those are t guys we were ever going to be in on.

How is it fair to the rest of the league that these guys have ignored protocol at least twice? The alternative is they play and potentially spread covid through the rest of the league, or the league has to change everyones schedule around? How is that fair?
There is no fairness no matter what you do now because these guys were unfair to the entire league. Hence... they should just forfeit their entire season.
What would you do about the draft in that situation, set them to the 32nd pick in each round? I'm not really sure how heavily they need to drop the hammer, but it needs to be harsh.

I can't remember a time where we drafted a guy who was described as the best pure goal scorer in the draft. That part is very intriguing, something that is lacking pretty much anywhere in this organization. The only thing that makes me nervous is that I tend to shy away from the late bloomers in these drafts.
One complaint I saw somewhere was that they didn't get anything that helps this team in 2021. That wasn't happening no matter who they took. That suggests that people may have wanted to trade it, but look how that entire round played out yesterday. That option wasn't happening either.
Best case scenario, short term anyway, is that I want to see this kid lighting up the AHL in 2021-2022 (I believe he'll be old enough, too lazy to look that up). There was no Cozens on the board this year, a guy we're hoping will contribute one year post-draft.

I’m slightly disturbed because this was my immediate thought too. -
This draft coverage is a bit ridiculous. The panel’s “speculation” on the pick is always right. They need to stop pretending they don’t already know who the pick is.

Crap. I just randomly turned some Van Halen on here in my office, two songs into the random shuffle and then I see this thread.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new NHL season starts as late as some time in January, 2021.
I feel like I've heard the league (or maybe it was TSN) state that as a target date, but I could very well be making that up. That timeline makes sense.

Billstime was one of the worst. I think alot of liberals and some ex liberals, myself included, could actually be better contributors to this forum if only they could stop with the petty Trump hate and just talk policies. It's really not that hard.
His posts (and a few others) make me wish any post with pictures/videos only appeared in a clickable form. Sure, you get Peter Panned a few more times than you'd like, but you have a little more control over what crap you actually have to see. Sure, you can throw someone on the ignore list, but you still wind up seeing it if quoted.

This is so strange right now. The season should be starting right now, but instead we have the draft this week. Has the CHL said anything yet about their plans on when they'll play? I'm still trying to figure out how that will factor into the transfer agreement and guys like Cozens and any potential pick this year being able to play in the NHL.

There's a couple that rides through my neighborhood each day, the husband on a moped and the wife on one of those rascal style scooters that you would see in a supermarket. There has to be some crazy modifications to the latter because she has to be moving at around at least 20 mph on the thing. You could get one of those things.😁

The borderline HoF level of play is a distant memory in the rear view mirror. But he was still very good last season and there is no reason to believe he can't/won't be a 50 point player on the 2nd line. Still would like another younger 2C candidate like Cirelli or Danault brought in; but Staal actually IS a 2C. Something they haven't had since the donut shop drive through window guy left town.
He's going to look very good playing behind a guy like Eichel. That and at this stage, he may be playing for one last contract (even if it's just one more year). I bet his numbers go up a bit this year.

A bear came a wedding shower at my in-law's house. It walked right through the back yard (mountains of New Hampshire) while the party was inside. I have a really crappy picture of it playing with the swing set.

I wonder how much might pop up in other cities too. My wife's going to be in Raleigh tonight and I'm not too crazy about it at the moment.

When I heard ricin I just assumed Walter White. As it turns out, it probably wouldn't take all that much photoshopping to turn that picture into him.

What would you like to see be done here?

Are you able to see a breakdown of people’s post by location? I’ve seen you make this “55k” claim a couple times and now have seen someone else run with it. Rhino’s post were not exclusively in this forum. I don’t touch the Q stuff here and I’ve had several interactions with him over the years, usually in movie related threads. Now it’s possible I am remembering some interactions with his old name, but even a quick look at his profile shows posts all over the place. Im sure the ratio probably does lean heavily towards PPP, but this one has been bugging me when I’ve seen it.
