While some people would always steal, the record companies aren't without blame here, either. They are charging consumers way too much money for a product with DRM and limited formats/quality, and refuse to switch to a viable online business model. There are three parts to high piracy rate to music: a.) its easy to pirate and not get caught, b.) the distribution model by the record labels is extremely poor and discourages honest people from buying, c.) their product is overpriced.

Everyone needs to be led by government - its part of how humans adapt to governmental society, they learn over time to depend on government for things. The correct question is how much leading should government do? What is an appropriate balance of governmental interference with freedom?

Most iPods do video nowadays - which requires lots more space than what 10,000 songs needs. Also, I don't think Apple can just say "lets price it at $.10", due to agreements with the labels. Its priced at .99 because Apple only takes a portion, and the record labels take the rest. In addition, the artists make almost nothing from people buying the songs through iTunes.

While I don't download music (who needs to download music with Sirius streaming in decent quality?), I have no sympathy for the artists who are continuing to be part of the problem (aka anyone who works with the RIAA).

I don't disagree with that being the best long-term strategy, was looking at the short-term reelection for him (which would take a bigger priority than the long-term, I'd presume).
