  1. There are summer and winter blends of gasoline which are mandated in most parts of the US. Initially the regulation was for high smog areas but was adopted by several states. Technically, the reid vapor pressure (RVP) of the gasoline is mandated to be lower in summer than in winter by changing the way gasoline is blended at the refinery. What this means is that in summer the gasoline is less prone to evaporating thus reducing the ozone depleting compounds in the air. Formulations typically flip back and forth on May 1 and Oct 1. My unscientific data (I track mileage per fill-up) shows that winter formulation gives a slightly higher mpg than the summer one with similar ambient temperatures. A side note is that I also believe the ethanol blends give lower mpg.
  2. Okay. I will see Hancock on July 4th which is Independence Day which is also a movie starring Will Smith who is the star of Hancock. Shed any light on your tunnel of darkness ?
  3. Thanx. You understood my play on words.
  4. I get the gist of what you are saying but technically, a cup of coffee (as traditionally defined) is not more than $2.25 for even the Venti. It is the frappes & lattes that cost more than $3.50 for even the smallest cup.
  5. He is not talking about the guy in Casino Royale, he is talking about the head of SPECTRE in the older series
  6. Thanx, I will be seeing it Independence Day.
  7. Likewise, I preferentially visit a local coffee shop that has way better coffee (not bitter like Starbucks') and personalized, friendly service. If she were to go out of business, I will shed a tear but not if one of the 4 Starbucks within a 6 mile radius were to shut down.
  8. Where, in this thread, did he discuss either QB ? Do you have any comments on the point he was making about expecting the offense to do more than just keep possession ?
  9. Thanx, Mark. Good, non-judgmental preview. Being a sucker for dumb action flicks & Will Smith, I will see Hancock. Being a huge X-Files fan will find me in the theater to believe yet again TDK - where else would I rather be ? Journey is a maybe depending on whether I have anything better to do that weekend (with the wife out of town). Pass on Hellboy as I am not into that character. Meet Dave is a definite pass. Murphy irritates me now, no matter what he does.
  10. Thanx for correcting my math. Guess I was living in the past.
  11. My prediction is Schobel with a 14+ sack season. Strange that most people in this thread gravitate towards a defensive player when predicting a 'best performance'.
  12. Don't agree fully with your points, but I appreciate this post about JP (for a change). To use a cliche, time alone will tell who ends up being the better QB. I just want the Bills to be strong playoff contenders - just sick of this excuse machine which generates new ones every year for failures while our record wallows in Cardinals territory.
  13. Thanx for the link. I don't know if I am waiting for The Dark Knight more or QOS. Both reboots were my favorite movies in their respective years of release. Atleast TDK is just 3 weeks away !!
  14. Try www.momondo.com as it searches multiple places for the fares. Within the continental US, Southwest may have the best deals. I did an Auckland - Denver R/T and get ~ $7000 for 2 adults and 2 kids including taxes. Also, October flights might be cheaper.
  15. Hey if they show everything, what will they have for the inevitable sequel ? I liked it too though I wished they had toned down their preachy message and the cheap Bush knock ("stay the course"). As far as their animated movies go, my favorites are Finding Nemo and Incredibles.
  16. Abba, "Voulez Vous" on cassette tape.
  17. Undoubtedly. In fact, if there was a vote, I would love to pin this thread for future reference about how a topic is supposed to be debated. I would prefer a more succinct version of the debate but very well done by both.
  18. Fair enough and I don't expect everyone to know chemistry either save for those in politics and media who spout the virtues of hydrogen without understanding the entire picture. It is their job to understand what they are advocating and influencing policy about.
  19. Egads. Never thought I would say this about any poster but ax4782 and krazykat individually put Pyrite Gal to shame regarding length of posts.
  20. Knock yourself out ... http://www.h2fc.com/technology.html Warning - By the time you finish reading the section on for and against arguments you will rush to the main board clamoring for an Edwards-JP debate.
  21. Technology can never overcome the laws of physics and chemistry. Most of the hydrogen discussed in these sources has a source with carbon attached to it. So even if technology can extract said H2 economically, the question of disposing of the carbon (or dioxide) still remains and may become an even bigger lightning rod for criticism in the future. Secondly, as I mentioned, splitting water takes an enormous amount of energy and generating from a renewable source is the only logical solution. So, as I said in a previous post, there are several aspects to this situation and when you put the entire value chain together (production, distribution, storage, by-product disposal and usage) it doesn't add up to a attractive picture no matter how much advanced technology is developed to solve a production-related problem.
  22. If oil prices stay where they are, they will be close enough to incentivize accelerating technology to extract oil from oil shales which is aplenty in our own backyard. Without any links to support this - I think $80 was the price point at which Canadian oil sands became feasible as an oil source & $150 is when oil shales reach that point.
  23. ya, but ... Where is the hydrogen going to come from ? Wicked laws of nature have intricately linked hydrogen with carbon molecules and these things called hydrocarbons are widely present in usable form in natural gas, coal and crude oil. So if the end goal is to reduce our dependence on these sources, we are SOL. If purely from a environmental perspective, using hydrogen to power transportation is good but what I said above implies that separating hydrogen will leave behind carbon which will have to be disposed off in some enviro-friendly fashion. There are ofcourse other pesky factors as to production plants for hydrogen, fill-up stations etc. which are a major barrier to the utopian 'hydrogen economy'. If the goal is to produce on-board hydrogen, it still needs a feed which will most likely have a carbon-related by-product. The ultimate solution will be to split water (a highly energy intensive process) using solar energy to get hydrogen and oxygen. Sucky situation, eh ?
