  1. Sigh, my bad. Too many open windows at once. Here are the correct 2001 top picks for each team and you're right, some real fine players are on the list.... San Diego: Round 1: (5th overall) LaDainian Tomlinson (RB) Round 2: Drew Brees (QB) Round 3: Tay Cody (CB) Round 4: Carlos Polk (LB) Carolina: Round 1: Dan Morgan (LB) Round 2: Kris Jenkins (DT) Round 3: Steve Smith (WR) Round 4: Chris Wienke (QB) Baltimore: Round 1: Todd Heap (TE) Round 2: Gary Baxter (CB-SS) Round 3: Casey Rabach © Round 4: Edgerton Hartwell (LB) Atlanta: Round 1: (first overall) Ron Mexico (QB) Round 2: Alge Crumpler (TE) Round 4: Robert Garza © Round 4: Matt Stewart (LB) Still, the boom-n-bust nature of the 2000 and 2001 drafts for the above teams shows that they're just as likely to miss from year-to-year as anyone else. The Bills' track record during the Adams years is among the best in the league. Most of the top picks in 2001 could play for any team in the league" Round 1: (21st overall) Nate Clements (CB) Round 2: Aaron Schobel (DE) 4th all-time in sacks for the Bills, BTW. Round 2: Travis Henry (RB) productive first two years, mental case since Round 3: Ron Edwards (DT) quality backup Round 3: Jonas Jennings (OT) quality starter, not worth the $$ SF paid however. Round 4: Brandon Spoon (LB) injury bug shortened career What exactly is your agenda, anyway?? Are you a Patsy troll afraid that Adams consulting on the draft might help the Bills somehow? You come out of nowhere and somehow your expertise is unquestioned?
  2. Right you are! He's a fine young man, I'm sure...
  3. Oh, you're a funny, funny guy! Yuk, yuk, yuk... San Diego: Round 1: no pick Round 2: Rogers Beckett (SS) ...no longer on team (on IR with Cincy) Round 3: Damian McIntosh (OT)...no longer on team (signed by Fins as a FA) Round 4: Treavor Gaynor (WR)...out of football Carolina: Round 1: Rashard Anderson (CB) 74 careed tackles...apparently out of football Round 2: Deon Grant (S) Solid guy now with Jacksonville Round 3: Leander Jordan (OG) now a spot starter with San Diego. Baltimore: Round 1: Jammal Lewis (RB) quality pick Round 1: Travis Taylor (WR) now with the Vikes (42 catches, very Josh Reed-like) Round 3: Chris Redman (QB)...out of football Round 5: Richard Mercier (OG) Atlanta: Round 1: no pick Round 2: Travis Claridge (OT) ...not on roster, out of football?? Round 3: Mark Simoneau (LB) ...not on roster, out of football?? Round 4: Michael Thompson (OT) ...not on roster, out of football??
  4. Who had a better draft than Cincy and the Bills in 2001? DA at 72 is still plenty valuable as a resource/consultant. I doubt he'd be traveling much, but he could really teach this scouting staff (which is pretty green, BTW) a few things...
  5. Hindsight's 20-20. Yes, it probably was the worst draft of the Butler-Adams era, but its real easy to be a critic after the fact and ignore the 8+ years of solid (if not 2-3 best overall) picking the Bills did prior to 2000. Take a look at what other teams did that year as well. The Jets and the Bears had good crops, but there is a lot of "blahs" everywhere. And I challenge you to look at the 2001 draft team-by-team and tell me who, other than Cincy, had a better one than the Bills. You seem awfully defensive for someone who called me out to do some research. Who are you, Tom Modrak's son?
  6. Merry Christmas: 2000 Draft. Not great, but not rated a dog at the time by most observers. 2001 Draft. A very good draft, regardless of what spin you want to put on it. Cincy had a great draft as well. BTW, Tom Modrak was hired in June of 2001, so he would not have had input on the 2001 draft. This was DA's swan song and it will be great if he comes back on board in some capacity for the all-important 2006 draft.
  7. He's 72 and he has more football knowledge in his sweatsocks than 95% of this MB have in their heads.
  8. Yet another Christmas present. That's great news.
  9. Loping along 3 yards off Johnson and watching him run is not playing lockdown. What exactly did Johnson do that Chambers and the rest of the WRs that were NC's responsibility the last few weeks do? Johnson certainly didn't look all world today and still got 117 yards. At this point McGee is much better in coverage than NC.
  10. I'll trade that every day is if some of the younger guys learned something about what it takes to win for next year....
  11. Yep, let's lose all 16 each year so we can always have the #1 pick...
  12. don't forget that crummy TD pass to LE, too.
  13. There have been a lot of inexcusable things about this season, but NC's effort over the last few weeks may be maybe the most galling. He's going through the motions out there and his effort on the Johnson TD was pathetic.
  14. The high profile FAs you mention are all on TD, who signed them off their proven track records, not a player personnel evaluation. I think John Guy, who digs up the low profile FAs, is actually pretty good.
  15. You had me right up to here. Enough of the Tucker can play stuff, IMO.
  16. What are you hinting at?? I was surprised that Adams has only been gone two years now. It seems like a lot longer.
  17. Agreed. His shortcomings clearly lay with player personnel and coaching evaluations, not his running of the team. I wonder if the wholesale turnover of the scouting staff after Butler & AJ Smith went west might not be a bigger factor in the Bills plight than any of us imagine. There was a ton of football knowledge on that staff that retired or left the organization. The scouts we have now are relatively young and I can't help but wonder if the teams' lack of character/mental toughness is due in part to the greeness of the current scouts vs. the grizzled vets who used to run our scouting area.
  18. IMO, that 3-13 record against 0.500+ teams is more an reflection of the team's overall talent level than anything...and that goes right back to MM's "fanasty football" approach to assembling the team. OT: I've also wondered from time to time about the level of intelligent posts to TSW in relation to the Bills record. It sure seems to drop with the winning percentage...thanks for posting something interesting.
  19. Me too. Talk about a "motivator" for the rest of the year, and maybe longer. That kind of rebuff sure worked for Thurman...
  20. If that PFW story on the TBD front page is even 5% accurate, and RWs even remotely considering a "name" GM, I'm sure this off-season will be an interesting one...
