I'm not great at analyzing these things, but I believe his cap hit will be ~$2.3M this year, and we could cut him after this season for like $700K dead cap in 2025 and 2026. Not too bad. I just hope he isn't a starter.

Not much different than his deal last year except it’s for 3 years.

In hindsight the majority of Beane's moves so far except the Miller pay cut, were the easy decisions.  Except Douglas, who nearly everyone expected to return, Beane cut away the 7 largest cap hit player who has dead money below their cap hits including White, Harty, Hines, Morse, Bates, White and Poyer.  All 7 were on my potential cap casualties groups.    The only remaining guys in those groups are Gilliam, Martin and Hamlin.  None of which really generates much in the way of cap savings.

The hard part is now as we still need about 30 to 40 million in cap savings to complete the roster and sign our draft picks.  Granted the majority can come from restructuring Josh's deal (23 million).  Another 16 million is possible through Diggs, but I'd rather see cap savings through extensions of key players like Dawkins, Oliver and T Johnson and some careful restructuring of Knox and Milano.  That said, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some changes to Diggs' deal as well.

Josh restructure most likely handles any free agents we sign before the draft unless we get involved in the Chris Jones sweepstakes.  He’s the only big ticket free agent I could see Beane going after.  Tre’s $10m cap space most likely handles the $3m it will take to sign the draft picks plus any post draft free agents.

IMO , if it's down to Leggette and Coleman, I'd take Legette. However, there are enough teams with two 2nd rd. picks, I'd gladly give up next years 1st to get a another 2nd this year. That way we could go with say...Legette, Sweat and Ladd or Wilson at 60.

Or what if...say...Byron Murphy somehow drops to 28. We could trade SF next year's 1st for Aiyuk and still get another good one at 60....IDK.

I've been reading BR's scouting reports on all positions and compared to most media, the draft slot projections are way different. It seems their grades are much lower than the media and maybe given recent history more accurate.

Of course nothing matters until FA begins.

I’m liking Roman Wilson in the 2nd round.  Dude is explosive and probably would’ve had much bigger numbers in a wide open offense like most of the other top WR’s played in.

And now back to the topic at hand.

I’m a little surprised we didn’t see any additional cap moves by the Bills yesterday.  I guess Beane needed a break after Wednesday to reshape his hatchet.

The NHL trade deadline is today.  How will Beane upstage Adams again today?

Not much left to do other than restructure Josh and potentially Von’s $7m roster bonus.  And Beane clearly likes to wait to do those things until he needs them to sign someone.  Don’t have to be cap compliant  until Wednesday and tampering period starts Monday.  Beane has become a master of manipulating agents, players and fans that he has no cap space but he usually finds it for the players he wants.

    The Full renegotiated terms

So there is that little 7M cap ticket in Roster Bonus that could free up more money in a week if needed converting it to a signing and prorating.

Here is to VON hitting all incentives and maximizing the deal, Likely means Bills won a SB.

Kind of humorous how Beane refuses to show Bills have any cap space by waiting a week to convert the $7m roster bonus.

Thanks. Who determines whether an incentive is “not likely to be earned”?

Apparently, one of Vons incentives is 2 sacks. I would guess that is likely to be earned, based on his improved play, and likelihood for increased snaps this coming year.

It’s based solely on the previous year, which is why it’s a popular cap tool for guys who were hurt the year before.

Over the Cap thinks we are saving even more:

I’m siding with over the cap here over spotrac. Not sure how a guy who had 1 tackle all season has any likely to be earned incentives.

    Wow

Depending on how many years they’re amortizing the $7m, that could be a $14m cap savings in 2024.  We could already be zero over the cap with another $10m coming from Tre on June 1.

    Spotrac is fully updated:

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap//

We are still $19,782,663 OVER the cap, but a simple restructure of Allen's contract will get us under. And there are still plenty of potential moves to be made.

Hynes is still there though.  So probably closer to $15m over right now.  And if Beane is cutting Poyer and Morse, gotta think Tre and Von don’t survive.

  10. Pretty safe to say Chicago is only team in NFL who would’ve given up a 5th rounder for Bates.  There’s seriously people upset about trading a guy making $4m per year who got demoted to 35 snaps last year? Maybe Beane can get pick #9 from the Bears for Diggs.

Beane out here trading future cap space so he can throw around some void years.

Agreed.  I assume we’ll hear about Morse’s $8.5m this year being restructured into the future.

This is why they have the combine.  Lol all these guys shrunk.

Those are heights are close enough to what they’d be in shoes/cleats.  Worthy and Franklins weights more concerning.

After the McDuffie/Elam draft, I’m completely fine with them going BPA at a position of need.

I hope it’s WR, but if we have a similar run on the position like last year before we can get in a position to take one, I’m not going to freak out.

I do have to admit however, im starting to wonder about how important EDGE is when the officiating very clearly allows more holding in the playoffs.

Powerful DT’s can disrupt even when held by collapsing the pocket up the middle.

Just a concern I’m beginning to have about positional importance if we take a guy like Chop Robinson at 28.

This is a great point.  In addition, with all the QB injuries the competition committee is talking about altering grounding rules to allow QB’s to throw it away even when they’re in the pocket.  That would make high sack edge rushers less valuable.

Last year my draft crush was O'Cyrus Torrence. Was elated he fell to us in the second.

This year Sweat is that guy for me, only I don't see him dropping. Actually, the opposite. I'm seeing anywhere from picks 35-50 as his window. But I expect that to change leading up to the draft and for him to end up in the top 32 taken. Someone is gonna fall in love with this kid and grab him.

Even though I believe that to be the case I'd be skeptical about taking him at 28. However depending on what the board looks like when we're up and who else is there I'd be open to moving out of Rd 1 all together, picking up another value pick and grabbing Sweat if he's there in the later window.

Agreed.  Weight is a legit concern but dude is a unicorn.  You don’t see guys that big who move that well.  And it’s not just about straight line speed like Jordan Davis from Georgia.  Sweat is a good athlete that makes plays.
