I would hope he could get a better deal than the Carolina trade

I actually think that trade was to buy time to either trade for a vet WR or trade back again from 33.

Now that the 49ers got who they wanted, they might be ready to move Aiyuk or deebo.

I think Bowers only real shot at single digits is bears at 9 or someone trading up to get him.  Giants, Titans, and Atlanta at 6, 7, and 8 aren't going to take a TE.  Giants are going QB or one of the big 3 WR's, Titans are a near lock to take Alt at OT, and Atlanta doesn't need a TE with Kyle Pitts there to work with Cousins and more likely to address their very needs defensive front 7.

Bears though are interesting...ive mentioned already it wouldn't shock me to see them take Bowers.  WR would be a luxury pick with DJ Moore there as a legit WR1 long term and Keenan Allen as a short term bridge opposite of him.  TE can be a young QB's best friend, so wouldn't surprise me at to take Bowers or OL instead of WR.  Also, with only 4 picks (although a good 4 picks) a trade back isn't out of the question and then who knows who that team is targeting.  They could be trying to get ahead of Jets for Bowers.

But more than likely I think its most likely Bowers goes somewhere from 10 or later personally.

I think Nabers has not insignificant bust potential and I think Bowers vs Odunze is a coin flip.  After the QB’s, my big board would be Harrison, then Bowers/Odunze, then Nabers.

I think the Jets would be crazy not to take him. They signed Mike Williams and already have Garrett Wilson, and Bowers would put them over the top.

I don’t think he lasts that long.  I could see the Chargers taking him at 5 if Harrison goes at 4.  Giants should take him at 6, same with Titans at 7.  If he makes it to 8, then I could see Colts trading up with Atlanta.  Same with Bears at 9.

Beane admitted that he doesn't have many first-round grades on players this year.

The seventh-year general manager wouldn't reveal how many first-round grades he has on players, but he said it's "not great".

Interesting looking at Beane’s comments now about the 2023 draft.  I’m thinking we already have a trade lined up for a 2025 pick for a vet like Metcalf and we’d prefer a trade back from 28 to recoup a 3rd round pick.

I'd do DK for a second rounder in a heartbeat but why would Seattle take a $36mil dead cap hit this year for a 2nd rounder? Are they looking to offload him?

It’s $23m in dead cap since his $13m 2024 salary would be traded to acquiring team.  They’d save 1.5m in cap space.  New coach who probably wants to instill winning culture this year with Geno Smith then draft a QB next year.  They already have Lockett and Smith-Njigba at WR.  Makes sense for  them to unload Metcalf for some 2025 draft capital like McBeane did their 1st year.  They’re not winning a Super Bowl this year and Metcalf might not be in their long term plans.

I doubt they do anything until after the draft. Likely most teams are in that mode. If DK is available afterwards, that may be a great get depending on who we draft.

Metcalf makes the most sense of any of the trade for a vet options especially if he’s not asking for a new deal.  He might be cool with 2 years with Josh then hit the open market again at age 28.  2 years $31m doesn’t break the bank.  Plus Seattle most likely wants draft capital for next year when they’re most likely drafting a QB.  A 5th this year and a 2nd next year.

Metcalf, Shakir, Samuel, 2nd/3rd round rookie, Kincaid, Knox, Cook is an upgrade over Josh’s skill position players last year.

  7. One things for sure, Beane certainly has everybody guessing.  Guess it makes it harder for other teams to sense desperation when a trade for a vet, a trade up in 1st round or sit tight at 28 are all believable scenarios.

For the thousandth time can't trade for Aiyuk unless we can clear $9m of cap first.

His contract this year on the 5th year option is $14.1m and it is all salary so would all go with him to the trading for team. We have at best about $5m in space.

Sure, we could extend him and lower the hit but you can't do that until he is on the roster so for at least 60 seconds between the trade being approved and him signing a new deal the Bills would be over the cap. There is no way of avoiding that. You can't register a new contract with the league until they have accepted that player's registration on your team.

Is there a way the Bills could offer the 49ers such a huge package that they do a 1 year deal with Aiyuk and eat some cap turning $12.5m of his salary into bonus and dropping the salary that would travel to vet minimum? I mean it is possible. Just not likely. 1. Because San Fran are tight themselves and a year out from having to pay their QB and 2. It requires a lot of trust from all 3 parties to then go through with a deal and a new contract that they would be under no obligation on.

Counterpoint is Beane left room in Josh’s and Miller’s restructure to cover Aiyuk’s $14m if he wanted to.  And Beane has historically operated that way where he doesn’t clear the cap space until he needs it.  Additionally I doubt San Fran would sell us cap space but trading Aiyuk would put them at $21m under the cap, and it seems like Beane and Lynch spent some time together trying to get the League to change their comp picks.

  9. Sometimes there’s crumbs out there on social media that get discounted as nonsense.  A lot of times it is. I could be completely wrong but I think there’s a lot of crumbs out there that add up to a deal being in place for Aiyuk.  There’s no way Miller posts that 12 days before the draft without knowing it isn’t happening.  The only way he’d know that isn’t happening is if there’s a deal in place for a vet like Aiyuk.  Aiyuk unfollowing the 49ers could be nothing but so could’ve Diggs passive-aggressive cryptic posts.  I’m sure there’s a lot of people who will roll their eyes especially the ones who want Diggs replaced in this draft, but there’s crumbs out there pointing to Aiyuk.

You know...there is a way this can be spun right?  Aiyuk was drafted at 22 and many now want to trade for him and say he is a #1.

    So... why can't Beane draft a #1 at 28?  😁

Counterpoint is that it took Aiyuk 3 years to become that dude.  We can’t afford to waste 2-3 years of prime Josh waiting on somebody to develop into WR 1.  Plus Aiyuk thrived in a ball control, RB utilized offense where he still put up big numbers without a huge number of targets.

I first saw the notion of Godwin being moved mentioned recently. Makes sense, now that they've paid Evans a big pile of money.

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2024-nfl-trade-rumors-zach-wilson-chris-godwin-among-players-who-could-still-be-moved-before-or-during-draft/

Granted, with a $20million+ cap number himself this year, the deal might need to be done post June 1st, and Beane would have to be ready with an extension/restructure of some sort. That said, it's hard to imagine Godwin commanding the same type of money as Aiyuk or Higgins going forward.

From a Bills cap perspective, I'm not sure how feasible it is. From a pure football standpoint, he'd be a quality addition, and likely wouldn't command nearly the capital or money that Aiyuk/Higgins would.

Just took a look at Godwin’s contract on spotrac.  Tampa has $500k in cap space and would have to eat an additional $6m in dead cap if they traded or cut Godwin. Plus he’s due to earn $20m this year.  I’d much rather trade for Aiyuk who’s also the younger better player at this point of their careers.

Aiyuk for a swap of this years first rounders plus next years first rounder.  Trade back from 31 for a 3rd rounder and take one of the centers from oregon or west virginia with our 1st pick.  Then go safety, WR with our 2nd and 3rd rounders.
