McKelvin or McGee on kickoff?
BuffaloRebound replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. Use them both. I remember in last year's Dallas game after McGee took it to the house, he sat out the next defensive series to get a breather. I'd bet both McGee and Parrish are happy they'll have someone to share the load with. -
How many CBs can we keep?
BuffaloRebound replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we keep 6. Look at all the CB's we went through last year. Unless James has nothing left, then we keep 5. People forget that Youboty is still a young pup. I think he gets another year. -
Good find. 10 games??? I thought it was only 8 games. $78m is still an extra $15.5m per year in Ralph's pocket since season tickets still cost the same amount less 1 regular season and 1 pre-season game. The only thing Ralph loses is parking and concessions which can't amount to more than $1-2m per regular season game and much less for a pre-season game.

This defense is going to be very good
BuffaloRebound replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looking back, it truly is amazing and a testament to the coaches that we were 7-6 and playing in Cleveland for a playoff spot. Add Stroud, Poz, Johnson, Ellis, Mitchell, McKelvin, Simpson and some more corner depth and we might have a defense that can get off the field. I just hope with all these new faces on defense that they can play with the same heart the under-manned guys played with last year. Lack of a Tight End is still the #1 worry. Unless Hardy has a rookie-of-the-year type season, the offense really hasn't improved much on paper. God forbid if one of starting OT's goes down. -
The draft went about as well as it could have in the 1st 3 rounds. 3 out of the top 4 needs were filled with non-reaches. Edwards and the offense still need an upgrade at Tight End - it is now the weakest position by far on paper...Royal is mediocre and our 2nd Tight End is either Teyo Johnson, Schouman, Fine, or the other guy the Raiders cut .

Parallel Universe speculation thread
BuffaloRebound replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably a trade down with Detroit since they supposedly wanted Mayo. But that still leaves us with Cromartie or another CB at 15 unless the Bills had Devin Thomas rated higher than every other team. The Bills really would have been stuck at #11 if McKelvin didn't fall. Knowing what we know now, the Bills were extremely fortunate things broke the way they did including Hardy making it to #41. -
Flowers looks good but our CB's have the same height/size issue as our WR's. One guy who's not getting talked about a lot because of his pot-smoking is Aqib Talib. The kid looks impressive on those highlights and Kiper has him rated as the best CB and a Top 10 pick. Strictly from his play on the field, I think he'd be ideal here. He's big and always seems to make plays and be around the ball. I'd love to see a trade down with KC which included one of their 3rd round picks and a swap of 2nd rounders getting us up to 35. With #17, I'd take Talib or Cromartie (if Talib can't kick his weed habit). At #35, we'd be in good position to catch whichever one of Hardy, Sweed, or Kelly falls.

Devin Thomas is going for a visit in Chicago Friday.
BuffaloRebound replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chicago is in desperate need of OT help. If the Bills trade down with a team like KC, KC would most likely be taking an OT as could Denver meaning Chicago gets leftovers. -
Lynch has so far proven his worth as the 12th pick. I agree we need an upgrade at WR desperately but there has to be a WR worthy of #11. Things don't always work as neatly as Lynch and #12 did last year. That's why I think there's better than even odds of a trade down. Chicago, Detroit, and KC all have multiple 3rd round picks. Philly would probably like to get a OT before they all go off the board. Same for Chicago and KC. The value at #11 will most likely be OT and luckily a lot of teams behind us have a need and the ammo to move up.

WR James Hardy might not get past KC at #17
BuffaloRebound replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think their goal is to become the Detroit Lions. Look at their roster. They might have the least talented roster in the NFL. You don't build a team with WR's. QB, OT, DE, CB are their most glaring needs. -

Bowe is their best young player who they just drafted in the 1st round last year. They have so many other needs. -
Unless the voidable year is worth more than the franchise tender for a WR, and I am sure it is not, he is voiding the final year. I doubt he gets traded as well, but I don't think Dallas could find a more perfect fit for Romo and opposite Owens than Evans. Jerry Jones has admitted he's had discussions about acquiring a veteran WR. Everyone assumes it's Roy Williams, but Jones wants a homerun threat for that offense and Evans is the best deep-ball threat in the NFL. I like Edwards, but his strength is not the deep ball. Hopefully, Evans and the Bills will get something done, but what could the Bills be waiting for? His price tag isn't gonna go down. It's most likely Evans who is waiting and this looks like Nate Clements part II.
-
Evans has 1 year left on his contract. He publicly stated he wants Losman as the QB. He has more value to a team like Dallas or Philly with vertical passing games. Like Clements, if Evans knows a team will break the bank for him next year, he most likely will not sign with the Bills. I would only trade Evans for another WR like Boldin, but what if Jerry Jones or someone else offers something close to what KC got for Jared Allen? It all depends on how the contract negotiation is currently going with Evans. I would think both sides will know how serious each other is about re-signing in Buffalo before Saturday.
-
I am surprised we have not heard any Lee Evans trade rumors if teams like Philly, Dallas, and the Redskins are making unsolicited trade offers for WR's who might want out of their current situation. Evans would be ideal for both Philly and Dallas and both teams have a lot value to trade. I'd love to keep Evans but if he isn't interested in signing a long term deal here, I'd rather get maximum value for him now.
-
How about this 3 way trade? Philly's 19th pick and Lito Sheppard to Buffalo, Bills 11th pick to Detroit (where they can take Harvey), and Philly gets Roy Williams. Will not happen, but makes sense on so many levels.
-
Even if they wanted him, why would the Bills make a sloppy mistake like letting people know that's who they want? If Harvey isn't there, I think the Bills do their best to trade down and then take the best CB or WR.

What scenario would be better for the Bills
BuffaloRebound replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good post. As other posts have stated, the Bills aren't going to fill all their needs in the 1st 3 rounds. I'll be happy with the best DE, CB, WR, or TE available with the 1st 3 picks. That could very well be Harvey in the 1st, then a DB like Flowers or Reggie Smith in the 2nd. If things were to fall that way, I think the Bills would have to consider trading back up into the 2nd round and getting the best WR or TE available. -
Justifying drafting James Hardy
BuffaloRebound replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Height and jumping ability are certainly important given the midgets we have at WR, but so is the ability to present a big target over the middle and absorb contact. Multiple game-changing interceptions were thrown to Evans on 10 yard slants to the middle of the field where both the QB and WR were clearly uncomfortable with the route. Can Hardy take the contact? Same with Sweed. I haven't seen enough of these guys to answer that. -
At this point I BILLIEVE that we will...
BuffaloRebound replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is why it was dumb not to sign Bryant Johnson to a 1 year deal as an insurance policy for the scenario that is currently unfolding. If Cromartie falls to 11, I think we take him and wait for the 2nd round for a WR or TE. If Cromartie is not there, we try our best to trade down and then consider Devin Thomas or even a guy like Cason later in the 1st round. There seems to be too much risk surrounding Kelly, Sweed, and Hardy to touch them in the 1st round. I'd bet one of them is around at pick #41. -
If the Bills are thinking about both Thomas and Kelly at #11, a trade down makes a lot of sense, since the odds of both of them being picked before the 20th pick are small. The trade I think makes the most sense to both teams, contract demands aside, is the Eagles and Bills flipping 1st round picks (which would equal a 2nd rounder) and the Bills getting Lito Sheppard. The Bills still get either Thomas or Kelly, plus Sheppard, and the Eagles get their pick of OL before the likely run of OL starting with Denver.

On a positive note. WR Adarius Bowman.
BuffaloRebound replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are some intriguing potential middle round picks (3rd though 5th round) this year. A strong safety like Zbikowski or Steltz could be a nice complement to Whitner. Big WR's who could fall like Bowman or Monk. A few big TE's with potential like Bennett, Davis from Michigan State, and Cottam. It would be nice to pick up a 4th round compensatory pick. -
I Give The Saints Front Office Credit...
BuffaloRebound replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we had an established veteran QB, I'd say yes to Shockey. But given that he whines and pouts every time he doesn't get the ball, I don't think that would be good for Edwards development or Losman no matter how talented Shockey is.
