  1. What's train wrecky about this place? I see comments like that and always wonder what that means?
  2. Hey Doc—on the flip side, what would you envision a beneficial Universal pre-K to look like, and what would the curriculum include? Also, what’s your beef with funding for Charter schools?
  3. I didn’t take your response personally, but if you thought my feedback was designed to provide feedback on your teaching style, you missed the point. I really just pointed out the obvious, which is that with a captive consumer required to pay for the services a teacher provides, there is little downside to a stylistic approach that would not work in a model where the consumer had a wide variety of choices and selections. One more try: Using text from your post: ...you really don't have any business telling a teacher how he/she should run his/her classroom as long as that teacher isn't doing or saying anything outrageous if the product coming out of the classroom is smarter and more disciplined. In the public school teacher compensation model, it doesn’t really matter if “the product cooking out of the classroom is smarter and more disciplined or not.”. Whether the product is good or bad, the teacher gets paid, generally in perpetuity unless they do something very outrageous. I want to make a distinction here—this is separate and apart from a quality teacher looking to deliver exceptional value to his/her students. Those high quality teachers still benefit from protection in the compensation model, of course, but that’s drilling down to an individual level. On the other hand, in the “retail” world of unlimited consumer choice, it matters, and if you fail to provide a product or service, or tell your customer they ask dumb questions, you tend to be fired or starve to death. Honestly Transpy, I don’t even see how this is remotely controversial or how you could be offended by it. I get that you’re working diligently and developing your craft, but I never suggested it was about you. Other than... Your suggestion that telling a paying crowd they asked dumb questions was the same as telling you 100% captive crowd. It’s not. Finally, to your point about “telling a teacher how to teach”, I’ve never done that nor would I. However, as local stakeholder in cost and service provided, I have every right to opine and share my thoughts, and I do.
  4. You're a delightful distraction, Mr. Tibsington. What did could you have possibly done to earn a 6 month pull in Attica? Oh god---did it have something to do with your rather unusual Molly Ivans fetish?
  5. right. the virus bounces off sick dance grooves according to most political experts.
  6. I'm calling any media coverage of that particular wall "Momograms". Btw, the photos I saw of the mom's in the Momograms were all maskless. They must have gotten the memo that violating social distancing guidelines and linking arms while not wearing masks actually frightens the virus so that it will not be transmittable.
  7. This a not your finest hour, Transpy. Horrible take. Generally speaking, with respect to education, the customer can be defined as followed: Individuals and families compelled by law to contribute whatever amount is required. Failure to do so shall surely result in expense and ultimately, loss of property; School children required by law to attend classes in a manner and location deemed appropriate by the state/BOE; All facilities are designed and managed by the state, maintained by the state, and paid for by the customer; Generally speaking, a teacher's compensation and/or benefit package is unaffected by performance any of the foregoing, and whether or not the customer is elated, disappointed or frustrated with the partnership, and in fact, whether or not the customer actually shows up at the arranged time and place to receive services for which they paid. In short, a teacher's compensation model is unaffected by implying a customer has asked a dumb question, eye rolls, shoulder shrugs or outward frustration. In that regard, a teacher is quite privileged...and without consideration, that can lead to the conclusion that everyone else is in the same boat. In the non-privileged world, one's ability to earn a living is dependent upon successful navigation of many factors, but mostly, providing what most would consider to be an acceptable level of customer service. That typically includes not telling your customer that they have a tendency to ask dumb questions, even at the risk of failing to meet the intellectual honesty standard a teacher can strive for with impunity.
  8. Hard to say, we’ve been witness to a lot of virtual fingernail chewing from some angst-filled lefties over the life of this thread. . I’m just kidding. Of course they are worried he’ll barricade himself in the Oval Office and call in a complicit military to stay in office post-election.
  9. The hypocrisy is stunning. The crazy-eyed socialist who tosses off insults like tic tacs, representing a party that has defined people who don't support their manifesto in terms such as...criminal...racist...homophobic...xenophobic..and of course traitorous. She suggested that then Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh "doesn't deserve to pass a 7th grade health test", and the list goes on and on. Yoho says he didn't say it, there's no evidence that he said it, it's reasonable to assume she's lying.
  10. Have we covered what might happen if Trump wins and refuses to stay? What if--and hear me out because I'm just spitballing here--what if Biden wins, but never shows up? I mean, it's clear that some part of him wants to be President, but there is more than a passing chance that he thinks the White House is in Peoria.
  11. My son is going back for senior year of college. Found out today his classes are all online. We had already committed to an off campus apt at $600/month, but it sure would have been nice if they made a decision about distance-learning a month or so ago. I also read where the Excelsior scholarship may not be funded for the coming year. This begs the question...child was gifted year one and two by the benevolent guardians of NYS virtue, lose it this year, child cannot afford to attend, loses interest and pursues another career. At that point, they are $20k deep and owe the full boat as i understand it.
  12. I don't speak for Transpy, but if he is saying anything other than the question is "intellectually deficient but understandable given your familial circumstance" it's just plain hurtful. He should also be thanking them first, but that's not in everybody's hypothetical domicile where they individually maintain and store the imaginary wheels they possess.
  13. I think with the country burning from the inside out, and an entrenched dem representing a 'centrist and unifying' position including ending our symbiotic relationship with energy we have in abundance, a reliance on a socialist platform and an extraordinarily expensive green new deal, and labelling a million of our fellow citizens as 'the enemy' because they enforce laws...it makes perfect sense that they would stay at home and let a demented dipsh7t with a history of absurd racial commentary become president. Everyone I know is repeating the following catch phrase: Look to 2012.
  14. If your goal is zero casualties, then distance learning should always be the norm. Do you truly think the system is set up for 0 risk to kids, families and teachers? What’s changed since March, when everything changed, is everything. The world closed, except for places like the Home Depot (risk is worth it we need those leaf bags!), liquor stores and the food stores. Schools closed, understandably and with little pushback. Then came the summer of our discontent. Suddenly, miraculously really, we discovered that protesting amongst thousands is like kryptonite to COVID. Meanwhile, we find that family gatherings and church services with attendees to talking more than all the fingers and toes on the human body are breeding grounds for COVID. So...protest in large crowds, gather, rage, interact, cry, hug, share etc is 100% fine, but people in a socially distanced classroom is so dangerous as to not even be on the table? It’s political football. I’m not less concerned for teachers or children in school than I am for everyone else, but I’m not more concerned. To be honest, if a teacher is immuno-compromised, diabetic or whatever, this is probably a good time to retire, consider disability or find other work. When my children were in school, it seemed viruses and colds made the rounds multiple times. Replace the older teachers with people not immune-compromised. School is about the children—at least from the parents perspective. When all is said and done, We agree—-I think most teachers are like just like you. They want to get back in the classroom. I’d bet most are not sitting In the house with windows closed and doors locked when not teaching—they are out and about interacting with all sorts of people. There is risk there as well, but they gut it out like the rest of us. It sounds to me that your President Trump is trying to give you all what you want, but you despise your President so much you’re digging in.
  15. Sold out by political leaders who see them as disposable people.
  16. Transpy, @B-Man raises a very good point. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Geek Squad Association of Engineers are weighing in. It’s looking more and more like opening is where the will of the Nation is trending, and you’ve already suggested you would start tomorrow. Why are you digging in here?
  17. Sounds like “....lying b” to me but whatever. She’s the press secretary, she’s tough and has accepted the explanation. Given the coverage of Russia, Ukraine, SC nominees, this would be 99 on a list of 100 offenses. There’s no decorum, very little decorum, these reporters are jackals.
  18. The French ruin everything with their beautiful words. Coach is a closer.
  19. Look at Mr. Fancypants with indoor plumbing.
  20. Somewhere along the way many people have abandoned the "stop, look, listen" lessons we learned as children and replaced it with...."Wait, 4 unnamed sources are referenced in a for-profit media enterprise in a prolonged battle with a sitting president, so obviously a man with a professional football team is a racist and misogynist". It's the international diplomacy circuit, not the KGB. Are the sources concerned they'll be Epsteined? I'd think a source would be a hero for outing a rich guy like this, and besides, the wealthy have these handheld devices that surely can record abhorrent behavior that was apparently on display. Give the guy a chance for God's sake.
  21. I'm not sure about the NFL being fine long term, but I do agree that helmet stickers will not have any major impact on viewership. For all the discussion on Kaepernick and the name of the team in Washington, the moral indication and so on...how many people stopped watching? Probably a few who support law enforcement on one side, maybe a few woke folk on the other, but mostly it was the same as it ever was. I think the league read the tea leaves, listened to their employees and figured the smart money was on relaxing the dress code. If that's the plan, so be it. Personally, I'm no more/less interested in social messaging from players, announcers or owners than I am from the guy down the street. If it gets too heavy, you are absolutely correct...turn it off, or fast forward through the blather.
  22. $7-$8000 in property damage done in 30 seconds.
  23. I see dead people....
  24. In another thread there is a discussion about the people participating in protests being more or less safe from the virus—won’t likely get it and likely won’t spread it. I’m skeptical, but that’s just me. In my post I mentioned that I’d think in a crowd of 10,000 or 20,000...whatever, mask discipline was likely not 100%. In the photo shared, there is a 100% mask failure and absolutely no social distancing. The story should NOT be about mothers defending their little anarchists, there should be an expose on all the people they are surely going to kill.
