I think it’s incumbent on reasonable people to infer “I think…” was the unwritten or unspoken part of a declaration like the one GB made. It really doesn’t even matter if he would object to that thought process, I’m only responsible for me here. I acknowledged that I understood people might see things differently partly because of the art of civility, partly because it’s obvious people will.

Real nice. I already acknowledged I wasn’t part of the political party that advocates soccer knife fights, post-match-pig-stickers. Now what do I do? I feel cheated. Convinced? No.

Bill, I think you’re one of the best posters on the board and there are many good ones here. I think many social issues are simply misidentified as political. I also think some people just don’t want to be burdened by social issues during what they perceive as an entertainment event. DJT inserting himself into the kneeling controversy…political. Kathy Hochul pimping for a Bills stadium in WNY…political. Lobbying by the NFL or NFLPA, tax status etc, political. Personally, I don’t see military flyovers, or military appreciation day as political. As for folks terminating a subscription to The Athletic because it’s owned by NYT, well, people vote with their checkbooks all day long. Sometimes those decisions are in conflict with other deeply held personal beliefs. People are complicated.

In the original thread, you mentioned the political aspects of an anti-knife fight initiative (words I honestly never thought I would hear affiliated with a sports league), the new combine guidelines, and one other. Having done absolutely no research on my own, I’m wondering why you would see these as political? Were they initiatives started at the legislative level, championed by political leaders etc? I’m personally struggling with the political aspects of “don’t stab yer neighbors, men”. I do not disagree with your fundamental premise of the intersection of politics v sports, btw. I do think that some folks tend to conflate social issues with political issues where sports are concerned.

Holy cow. With 9 months to prepare a statement since the tragic death of this officer, the governor of Massachusetts used him as a political prop for taking points on the January 6 riot ? What an incredible lack of respect for the man and his family. Several of us (liberals excluded) have remarked about the injuries, death, and destruction of the many, many riots that besieged this county prior to 1/6. My contention has been that members of government see themselves as above all that, maybe even as royalty with lives more valuable than that of the average citizen. This sort of proves the point, where the disposable people can be used as they see fit. When the narrative doesn’t fit, they just bend the facts. All the dead and injured across the county and this idiot can’t tell one from another.

Unionize Buffalo Starbucks? 😂
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
So 3 walked out, and 3 were pseudo-scabs? Someone sent me this photo from the actual picket line. Looks tense...maybe the caffeine? -
Classic—Now the libs are touting Karl freaking Rove as a beacon of truth and honesty. 🤣 The guy who was a key advisor to the president accused of fabricating a war, lying about wmds, and sending young men and women to their deaths for oil. The top adviser to W the Bush, key ally to Dick Cheney, father of establishment poli Liz Cheney, the current reigning best R ever. It’s fascinating the way the liberal narrative changed once war crime W Bush became kindly old Gumpy Bush, painter of paintings and close friend to Barrack, Michelle, Will and Hill. Suddenly, as if by magic, the war for oil never happened. Next hero to the liberal left…Donald Rumsfeld!

I just caught some coverage on the Today show this morning. They had a congressman on who is a former Army Ranger who described the scene as something reminiscent of his days in Afghanistan. I believe he’s a Democrat, but they didn’t say. Putting aside the comparison to Afghanistan, as he described the events and the terror of his fellow congresspeople, I can imagine the fear some of them surely felt. A quick glance at those in the room revealed an average age of maybe 60, quite a few a bit long in the waist, and probably not ready for any sustained physical activity. Thankfully, the lines held though I still wonder how a bunch of knuckle dragging rioters in giant horns were able to overrun the Capitol in 15 minutes. I support the arrest of individuals guilty of a crime, due process and appropriate prison terms. Still, I watched scenes like that unfold in cities and communities across the nation last year that resulted in terror, destruction, and assault on the law enforcement community week after week. Fires raged. People were injured. People died. It really was a cottage industry, certainly seemed organized and supported in many cases by some of the same politicians who were at the Capitol that day. I wonder if the people injured, terrorized and who lost loved ones would have prayed for an armed and trained police force, bulletproof glass, and federal law enforcement with an unlimited budget to seek accountability and “at any level” as described by the DOJ. The irony. The irony.

New York Considering Legalizing "Magic Mushrooms"
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Off the Wall
#wildchild #magicmupprooms There’s a cautionary tale here somewhere between doing mushrooms and going to see a Disney flick, but who am I to say? -
Sadly, I think he just changed his name to Kyle Rittenhouse.

Welp, after having watched a bunch of numbnuts with goat horns and face paint "take over" the Capitol in about 15 minutes, I'd be less inclined to think they were traumatized and much more inclined to think they decided to high-tail it to some lobbyist job before someone serious made a move to get in.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Why? When looking for consensus and taking care of our fellow man to avoid getting clobbered at the Mighty Taco, shouldn’t we all give 110%? -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

We should really just put a big on/off switch near the Peace Bridge so we can flip it on when we’re all in this together and flip it off when a Niagara Bill wants to go Nova Scotia postal on poor Leh-needed because he was driving his son’s car to pick up building supplies 30 miles from home and there wasn’t a dam mask to be found in the car. Fortunately Leh-n, not know for his soaring intellect beat the whole damn COVID virus by dragging his oversized shirt up over his mouth and nose as he wandered the home center, keeping his fellow citizens jockeying to get in front of him at check out safe and sound, while at the same time avoiding a bully beat down (maybe, Leh-nerd might be deceptively scrappy for a codger) from a guy screaming “Where’s your mask eh? Where’s you’re $&@&ing mask?” followed by “I have zed tolerance for this crap!” to no one in particular. The way I see it, reports suggest 63% of the population is fully vaxxed (whatever Faucci says that means on any given day) leaving 47% that might/should be the target of your rage on any given day. -

While we don’t agree on much, I always find the conversation interesting. This is one of those times where I don’t really follow you. Up a couple posts, you seem to question whether or not it’s appropriate to assault a fellow citizen who disagrees with your perspective, presumably in the name of the public good. How does one get to that point, where you even question if beating someone about the head/neck/body because they would rather self-manage the pandemic than be forced to submit to a voluntary vaccination? Would you attempt to throttle them during a bad flu season? An outbreak of measles? SARS? Bad Thai food? We’re losing perspective rapidly here. Interestingly, the Aaron Rodgers debacle comes to mind. A young, healthy individual declines to vaxx up, ends up with the ‘Vid, fights it off like millions of others and becomes the poster child for….what? Choosing to decline the voluntary vax that he was certain his system could manage? Is the plan to beat up all the Aaron’s of the world, because there are a ton of them. I think people need to stay in their own lane. Mind their business. They should get the shot if they want the shot…shot…shot…shot. -
This report purports to report the details of another report and points to future reports. If the committee has the goods, why do they need reports about reports? Wouldn’t a really “big deal” just be to turn the evidence over to the DOJ And have all the Trumps arrested? and correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the democrats run the reports about reports game a couple times already?

Eviction Moratorium To End Jan. 15
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It can be a terrible business. When you factor in a liberal mindset that allows for people to disregard their obligations for years at a time it’s a recipe for disaster. One thing I noticed during COVID was there was no moratorium against payment of school/property tax, sales tax or any other taxes on everyday goods. That windfall had to continue but a hard working landlord investing in his/her future was told to suck a nut. In spite of a plethora of career opportunities available, I’d think Hochul extends it because, you know, stuff. -
I sense that you changed your argument here as the narrative evolved. An employee can be terminated, the cause documented, the termination withstand the scrutiny of the state as it relates to wrongful termination, and the employee may well be able to receive unemployment benefits. I guess leadership in the states that have placed a burr under your saddle are just trying to clarify what might be referred to as the "Not being safe" loophole. I applaud them. #peoplepower

It's Time to Mandate Vaccines
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Agreed--and just a point of emphasis. If we were to have a wild-eyed crazy running around infected with ebola, I'd bet many folks would line up behind a law allowing the man to target/acquire/detain the infected. The unintended consequence of the erosion of civil liberties here and the very broad language is very troubling indeed.
