  1. Let me preface this by saying I am not an RJ fan. RJ didn't lose the game for us that day. To the contrary, he brought the team down field on a drive for the go-ahead field goal and had the special teams held up their end of the deal on the ensuing kick off "Shoeless" Rob Johnson would have gone down as a hero in the annals of Buffalo sports history. I believed before that game that the team that won that day would end up in the Super Bowl - unfortunately Tennessee won and the Bills didn't. There was a certain Buffalo satisfaction to see them come up inches short of tying the game at the end of the Super Bowl. BTW, thoughts on Flutie...thanks for the memories but it's been time to go for a long time. While the 98 season was a fun one, there are a lot more players who have come thru town that I hold in a lot higher regard. I'm also glad he didn't get a gift SB ring like RJ.
  2. I'd be happy with this line but I would be concerned with the age factor. I want a line that can grow and mature together not fall apart in a couple of years.
  3. Culpepper to the Raiders - back with Randy. I think he'll be wearing black & silver before he wears teal.
  4. I'd bump the Adolescents off the list and replace it with the Avengers album - an amazing album of early singles and other stuff. The Germs would get the shove too - influential but Darby was a wanker. give me X's Under The Big Black Sun instead (the first 2 lps were good but they really hit their stride on the third lp) - just my 2 cents. btw, Fear's album still cracks me up...
  5. And then we wouldn't have had a pick high enough to draft...Mike Williams!!!!
  6. Don't know if any posters are fans of the late 80's/early 90's band House of Freaks. They were always a favorite of mine - I was shocked to read today that the band's founder/guitarist was murdered along with his wife and two young daughters on New Years Day: http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/379756p-322383c.html I was lucky enough to meet Bryan a long time ago - you couldn't imagine a nicer guy. Totally unpretentious and down to earth and a great songwriter to boot. It truly is a f*cked up world.
  7. I'd rather have Ole Whitey as the store greeter!
  8. Ouch , Nick came all the way from England to see that game - and I was feeling disgusted thinking about flying up from Long Island for next week's mess
  9. Anyone know if the Bills are going to see wear them for the Bronco game next week?
  10. I hate them both. I don't care about any of our old #11's and I only am interested in our new #7...
  11. My problem with Mularkey is that he hasn't shown me the leadership we saw last year. When the team started out like crap and RW started making comments to the press about the offense, Mularkey stayed the course and didn't make any change in philosophy. Granted he rode Willis' hot hand and a weak schedule to a strong second half of the year but he still deserves some credit for the team's success in 04. Fast forward to this year. The team cuts Drew and annoints JP as the future and then promptly pulls the plug after four games partly as a result of the pressure from veterans like Moulds and Adams who want to win now. I believe that JP will be a good quarterback in this league - possibly a great one - and while I feel he has benefitted from his time on the sidelines it was still four games worth of experience that he missed due to the waffling of the coaches and management.
  12. Hockey's definitely getting a lot more pre-January viewing than usual for me too. I'm glad it's back even though my team (Islanders) tend to drive me crazy too.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen. I think they were the best team in the nfc at the end of last season. Injuries and their slow start hurt them last year. They look good this year and knocked the crap out of Vick last week - always good to see one of the league's superstars taken down a notch.
  14. Let me preface this by explaining that I'll always bleed Buffalo blue through the good days and the bad days. That being said, are there any other teams that Bills fans have taken notice of this year as our boys continue to plod down the wrong path? We're not talking about buying new jerseys and front runner hats - just teams that you respect and enjoy watching and kind of wish the Bills were playing like. I would have to say the Colts (for obvious reasons) but I think that while their D has improved it is not the be all and end all some people have been saying it is. But I do want them to break both the Dolphins and the Patriots consecutive win streaks. Another team I've enjoyed from afar has been the Bears - what a defense! They first hit my radar when they beat us in pre-season but they have really impressed me over the course of the year.
  15. I agree that the Bills have been a player in free agency but I think that "premiere" free agents is a bit of a stretch. I would rate them as follows: Top shelf signings (2): Takeo Spikes (one of the best FA signings ever but the fans could have told TD that - remember the Takeo chants at the last home game against the Bengals the season before?), London Fletcher (excellent signing - quality player) Solid players (4): Larry Centers (one of the few bright spots in 2001), Mike Hollis(only one year in Buffalo - let him walk so we could overpay Rian Lindell), Sam Adams (good signing - gave us our bookend to go with Big Pat), Chris Villarial (quietly solid) Average players (5): Jeff Posey (signing him minutes after free agency began always reminded me of how Leon Hess was so excited when Rich Kotite became available after the Eagles fired him - I never understood that sense of urgency. He was previously succesful in a 3-4 which the Bills didn't run anymore and he has been very average in his tenure here), Rian Lindell (overpaid and average), Lawyer Milloy (good player on the down side - Bellicheck is right most of the time w/regards to players) , Troy Vincent (see Lawyer Milloy) , Mike Gandy (could become a solid player if there are better players around him on the line) Journeymen at best (4): Chidi Ahanatu (sucked - didn't even want to live in Buffalo), Trey Teague (for the life of me I will never understand a team's desire to have a player switch positions - in this case from LT to C, a position he hadn't played since college and one where he has been disappointing at best), Bobby Shaw (did anyone miss him after he was cut mid season?), Kelly Holcomb (everyone loves the backup but there's a reason he's a backup - he's the second coming of Alex Van Pelt) Bust (1): Olandis Gary (blink and you missed him) Four other free agents spring to mind: Bennie Anderson in 2005 (a complete, utter bust - TD's worst FA signing) and Sam Gash in 2003 (a fan friendly signing but a player who was completely underutilized in the Bill's offensive scheme and who was released after one year). And then there was always Eddie Robinson and Billy Jenkins in 2002 (garbage and more garbage). Add my four additions to the bust list and the overall quality average of TD's free agent signings takes a dip to a majority of average and below average players. Now before I am branded as a TD basher I will make the following points: 1. free agency is a crapshoot. 2. Football is the ultimate team game and there are many reasons why a player can be succesful in one system will not succeed in another system. That being said, TD has not properly addressed the offensive line line thru free agency. What this team needs is a true leader on the o-line. A free agent signing of the quality of a Kevin Mawae, a Steve Hutchinson, a Marco Rivera - a leader who will make the players around him better. In Buffalo perspective, a Kent Hull type player. Pinning his hopes onto that #4 RT pick in the 2002 draft has failed miserably and his forays into o-line FA have produced some ok players and some crap players but none that have stepped up to be the linchpin of the most important component that Buffalo has been missing for the last ten years.
  16. I see progress with JP and that makes me happy. Unfortunately, losing the game pisses me off so it's a bit of a wash.... Bottom line is the defense once again did not step up at home and make the play it needed to make in crunch time. Hold them to a field goal and let's see what happens in ot. The defense is the biggest disappointment of the year for me.
  17. Doesn't matter too me - the Bills never get a MNF game these days and when they used to it was never fun (remember those ugly Pittsburgh games?) I'm happy not watching MNF anymore.
  18. I have one for the list. Not so much annoying, just not too smart. We have seats in the family section which as everyone knows is the section where they don't allow alcohol. In general they don't allow knuckleheads either. People tend to have their kids with them, we make our share of noise and overall it's a pretty good bunch. Anyhow, we get to the seats right at kickoff and here's this guy already standing up and shouting at the field, not necessarily at a player or play, just loudly, constantly and as near as all around could tell, fairly stupidly. As this was not your average family section attendant, it was just a matter of time until the men in yellow showed up. Sure enough, here come three security guys to talk to Mr. Upright who can't understand why they want to speak with him. A few minutes later I had to hit the bathroom and so I walk up the tunnel past the aforementioned three security cards and the now indignant fan who can't understand why his behavior is unacceptable in this specific section. Heading back to the seats after the bathroom run, said fan is now flat on the ground, being held down by two of the security cards, with more on the way to help escort him out of the stadium. I guess common sense and diplomacy were not his strong points.
  19. Mariah Wins at Violence-Free Vibe Awards Wow, what an accomplishment for all involved http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051113/ap_on_en_mu/vibe_awards
  20. Just got back home from the game - great weather, great tailgating by the fieldhouse, great game and win and I have to say that I really enjoyed myself. Nobody annoyed me EXCEPT for the fans in section 115/116 who insist on trying to start that godforsaken wave crap. I don't know why but it drives me crazy. Thankfully everything was just meant to be perfect today and the speds gave up after a half dozen attempts.
