It is the best move here.

I agree. . . if we draft a CB this high, a year after letting Clements go, we are truly on a treadmill.

Lito Sheppard Traded to Tampa Bay

No not really that we aren't going to do this, or no not really that I should be disappointed if they do take Mike Jenkins? -

Yikes, unfortunately for us . . . looks like Mike Jenkins at # 11 now. Would not be happy at all if that's the case. -

You're in Philly right? Are they reporting this on that station?? -

I'm assuming 610WIP is a radio station. Anyone know if it's in Philly or Tampa? -
Lito Sheppard has been traded to Tampa Bay according to 610WIP, I just read on Fantasy Football Today. They said it was for a 2nd rounder on Saturday and future considerations (either a pick or player). Anyone else able to confirm this?

A few things about our schedule we can bet on: Guarantee 1) We'll either play Miami and/or New England IN Miami or New England the week AFTER they bye. AND, it will likely be our 2nd week in a row on the road. This type of crap happens every freakin' year. Seems like we've played one or the other on the road with them coming off their bye, for several years now. Guarantee 2) Another conspiracy-lovers tidbit: We'll likely play more teams coming off their byes than any other team. I've looked at this for several years and it is more than coincidence. I'd like to see the actual numbers in the last 5-7 years or so. I'll bet we are at the top, or in the top few, for games played against teams coming off their byes. . . usually on their home field! Guarantee 3) As a kicker, we usually play 3 of the last 4 on the road. Granted, we've asked for this somewhat. It has a lot to do with our weather. But, the last 3 out of 4, and absolutely week #17 on the road. Also, the chances of road primetime games is much more likely than home primetime games.

If We Want to be Competitive Right Now

There's no way Kelsay and Peppers could total a 24 or so million dollar cap hit this year. Maybe 15 million, at most -

As far as cap hits, aren't we 20-some million under the cap? Maybe Clumpy can chime in. How would trading Kelsay affect our "Cash to Cap"?? (not our cap total) -

We have a great front office? I admire your faith and optimism. I don't know that even the heartiest fans could deep down agree that our front office is great. We don't even have a true GM. We have a financial guy and John Guy, Modrak and Jauron. Any way you slice it, great is not the word that is often thrown around when discussing them. -

Money might well be a factor, but I don't think those trade proposals are something the other teams would see as outrageous. # 11 for Boldin or Roy? I think either team would strongly consider pulling the trigger. -

I'm very relaxed. But how did Youbouty, a 3rd rounder in the draft, turn out? You're assuming we will hit on all of our draft picks. Nobody hits on all of them. Sheppard is a proven CB in this league that won't break the bank and can be had. -

Yes, I did forget about the compensatory picks not being allowed to be traded. I'm sure you meant "moot" not "mute" point. But, the cap hit point you made on trading Kelsay doesn't hold water as we could easily absorb it. Where on earth did you get the idea that this is a good, deep WR draft class and it will be easier to come by one that way? Unfortunately for us, this is the weakest WR class in recent memory. There are NO WRs viewed worth the #11 pick in this draft. Sweed, Kelly, Thomas are all considered reaches at that point and there are no guarantees with them being as good as Roy or Anquan. In fact, odds are, they won't be as good. Also, just because the front office stated that they'd like JP this coming year does not make it a lock. They could well be trade posturing. I, for one, believe they'd take a 3rd for him without flinching, and will consider a 4th. -

I agree with spending money on the front 7. Then, what about the 2nd, 4th, and Chris Kelsay (and that fat bloated-ass contract) for Julius Peppers. He had an off year and can be had, or so reports say. If he had a good year, Carolina wouldn't think of moving him. I think he'll rebound and is worth the risk. -

What about the depth back there? We are dangerously thin at CB. Sheppard isn't going to break the bank at all. -

That is a homer call all the way. You cannot really believe that. -

We do have the cap room and this would remove the 1st and 2nd rounders contracts from the books. Are we even at the cap FLOOR yet? Anyone? -
If we wanted to be very competitive right away, this is what I wish we'd do. I'm basing these trades on reports I've heard that these guys are being shopped. I'm trying to be fairly realistic. . . 1) Trade our own original 4th (quite high) rounder to Philly for Lito Sheppard. If a 5th or 6th rounder next year is needed to seal this deal, so be it. Sign William James. Instant upgrade at starting CB and nickel. 2) Trade our high 2nd rounder, our low 4th rounder (compensatory pick) and Chris Kelsay to Carolina for Julius Peppers. Sign James Hall or Kalimba Edwards too. Yes, reports I've read say Peppers can be had. And a 1st rd pick may not be necessary to get him. Peppers had a very off year last year, but the risk that he'll return to be an elite player is a good bet. If they want JP in any deal, work him in and say keep the compensatory 4th or Kelsay. 3) Trade our #1 (11th overall) to Detroit for Roy Williams or to Arizona for Anquan Boldin. Yes, this is the tough one to swallow, but with the WR draft class so weak this year, this makes a lot of sense. They are both young and proven, and ready to contribute hugely right way. 4) Trade JP for a mid 4th round pick, (if he wasn't needed as ammo to get the above trades done). Some will say trade him for a 3rd round pick, but as I said, I'm trying to be realistic. Don't know that we'll really get a 3rd for him. Sign a vet back up. Daunte Culpepper? Gus Frerotte? In summary, we'd have our original 3rd rounder, Lito Sheppard, William James, Julius Peppers, James Hall, and either Roy Williams or Anquan Boldin. That sure beats Sweed or Kelly and some unknown questionable CB in the draft. ALSO, aren't we going to get another compensatory pick for losing London Fletcher and Nate Clements? Like a 3rd rounder??? Anyone?

Trent Green Trade to Miami "Imminent"
BenchBledsoe replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Huh?? As a Bills fan, how dare you not take a pot-shot at the Dolphins if ever given half the chance!! What football have you been watching? He has been exceptionally average over the years. Had he not gotten hurt in 1999 and Kurt Warner come in, the Rams would likely never have won the Superbowl that year. How many playoff games has Trent Green ever won? Any? If so, not many. The Chiefs would have been better served in the playoff at Indy to start Damon Huard. -
Good news folks! According to Rotoworld.com, a trade of Trent Green from K.C. to Miami for a 2nd DAY draft pick is imminent and will happen this coming week. Daunte Pigpepper would then be released. Is it just me, or would that be yet another downgrade to their QB situation? At least Pigpepper USED to be pretty good and is mobile (or could be again). What has Trent Green even done or won? Answer? Nada, zip, zippo. Green is now an injury-prone old hog that moves slower than L.A. rushhour traffic. I'd welcome this move with open arms. This is a stop-gap fix (and not a good one) for a team in true "searching" mode. Funny part is, this prolly will ream them salary cap-wise too, with Green's contract and the releasing of Pigpepper.

Who Will We Play on the Road AFTER they "Byed"?
BenchBledsoe replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didn't realize that the schedule-makers were quite that obvious and transparently ridiculous. That is freakin' gross. We have enough of a hard time competing with out this built in handicap. This is total B.S. -
Okay, so the schedule comes out tomorrow (Wed 4-11-07). Who will get to play us AT HOME, after they were on their bye week, and we were likely on the road also the week before. It was the Pats this year. Do we get bent over again like this again this year? It would be the umpteenth time. For those of you who don't by into those conspiracy theories, etc. just take a look at the schedules of the last 5 years or so. It is unmistakeable and cannot be attributed to coincidence. The schedule makers will reem us again with a road divisional game, with our opponent coming off their bye, with us likely on the road for the 2nd consecutive week. Can anyone verify the amount of times that the Bills have played a team coming off their bye in the last 5 years as compared to all of the other teams? It would be interesting to see those numbers. I'm willing to bet that we've played teams coming off their byes more frequently than anyone, or at least in the top 3.
