My surprise pick at #9: Charles Brown

I will say this. Donte Whitner at 8 Marshawn Lynch at 11 THis would make sense. -
Rank the top Tackles 1-4
Deep2Moulds46 replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've graduated College in Dec. and have been job jumping, so admittedly, my draft research hasn't been up to par this year. I hear Bulaga is a right tackle prospect though, and if that's the case, I don't see the top 10 value in the guy. However, I also remember the same thing was being said of Jake Long in 2008, and he ended up being an elite left tackle. Is there reason to believe Bulaga can survive on the left side, or do you guys think he is just a right tackle at the NFL level? -
Bills #1 Pick Coming Down To...............
Deep2Moulds46 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's be honest. It's based on the fact that he's a California guy who comes off of arrogant. It has nothing to do with ability ( which he has) or Pro-style offense experience ( which he has). The NFL draft is the worst time of year for stereotyping. If a defensive player is white, he's high motor. If a Qb is from California, he is going to be a bust. -
How do you guys rank the top tackles? I think Okung will be the first player picked, but I actually like Trent Williams the best. 2) Okung 3) Davis 4) Bulaga. I just have this feeling that any team that passes on Anthony Davis is going to seriously regret it in a couple of years. The guy is a mauler, but still has the athleticism to be a left tackle.

Bills #1 Pick Coming Down To...............
Deep2Moulds46 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's the part that worries me. In the same report, they say the Redskins will take a QB. Now, I'm not pretending to have insider knowledge, but I fail to see how a team who just made a major "win now" move by acquiring McNabb, who also has a gaping hole ( that's what she said) at Left tackle...with the ability to pick a top left tackle prospect at 4, would waste a premium draft choice and valuable cap space on a Qb who would ride pine for a couple of years. So, I'm not doubting the validity of the report. I believe those "rumors" are out there. I just don't think you can believe anything you hear about the draft. -

I think they're pretty far away honestly, probably realistically 2-3 years. The last regime did them no favors in building the roster. This is precisely why I think the Bills pretty much need to turn a blind eye to "need" and take the best player available for the next couple of years. Load up on guys you think will just be outstanding football players, and then in a couple of years, start filling in holes again. Yes, we have needs, but we also need a core. If they love Spiller, take him.

So much for a second for Lynch

Care to make a "prediction" about the Bills interest in Clausen if he's there at 9? Come on. You know you want to! -

Deep2Moulds46 replied to 95altima12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I'm trying to sell you my car, and I tell you I'm desperate to get rid of it, you're going to probably try to low ball me. Nix saying he expects Lynch to be part of the team is just GM speak for, "we still feel he's a good player, and we should be compensated accordingly" -
How dare you question the only thing some of us have to hang our hats on!!!! Is Nix good? Nix is the best GM EVER, and we were just fortunate enough to find him.......um........unemployed.....and bring him in as a scout...........and then promote him to GM. Go BILLS!!!

If you have a shot at a blue chip tackle, you take him. I'm just saying I don't see any blue chip tackles in this draft. Okung, on film, is the least impressive "top 5 tackle" to come out in years. And no, I'm not saying "on film" because I watch college football on television. I'm saying it because I've talked to a scout for a pro team who can't believe how touted some of these tackles are.
-
It's not that I think any of the second rounders can come in and start from Day 1, I just don't think any of the first rounders can either. I mean, sure they can start, but they'll all struggle. I think the upside and development potential of a lot of the second round guys equals the first round talents. Tackles are always overdrafted, every year. Yes, Joe Thomas, Jake Long and Ryan Clady are fixtures of their teams, but teams have also taken Chris Williams and Duane Brown, just because they play tackle and they flash a little athletic ability
-
I wouldn't take any of them. Sorry, if I'm spending a top 10 pick on a player, I want either a nearly finished product, or a guy with ridiculous upside. I don't care how bad we need a tackle, taking one of these guys is a wasted pick in my opinion, especially when you can get a comparible talent in round 2.
-
LOL by far? How is very useless better than extremely useless? Neither guy has done anything as a WR. I know you're a Bills fan, so the 175 yard game against Terrence McGee is in your memory bank, but over the course of his career, he has been a HUGE bust at the position.

If it's Spiller at 9...
Deep2Moulds46 replied to South Jersey Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who makes this team better tomorrow? Chris Johnson or Max Starks? Just because a tackle is taken in the first round doesn't mean he is going to evolve into Walter Jones. In fact, by all accounts, all of the tackles at the top end of the draft have various flaws. Many people think Spiller is a gamebreaker. So, I'm all for picking at position of need, but only within reason. -
If it's Spiller at 9...
Deep2Moulds46 replied to South Jersey Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll be honest, I hate taking RB's in the first round. I think they're too easy to find...... HOWEVER, and this is a BIG however....this team has nobody on offense that scares anybody. Nobody on defense that scares anybody. If we have a chance to get a game changing, explosive playmaker, we need to take him whether it's a LB, RB, DE, QB or whatever. And I have talked to someone who scouts for an NFL team, and he said Spiller is extremely fast, but it's his short area quickness that makes him such a lights out prospect. -
The "sportscenter special" the original poster was referring to is the replay of the NFL draft preview that ESPN does every day 2 weeks leading up to the draft. It has nothing to do with the NFL schedule, and the schedule release hasn't been announced yet.

Adam Caplan of Scout.com just reponded to my question on twitter. I asked him if the Bills would be better off taking Clausen in Rd. 1 or taking a LT early and then taking a QB in the mid rounds like Skelton. He responded. caplannfl I'd wait on QB, they also like Levi Brown. RT @JoshMac28: @caplannfl Would Buffalo be better off taking Clausen or grabbing Skelton?

No, but we have some dynamic kick returners. Just sayin

We need an elite LT and the Redskins need picks
Deep2Moulds46 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Redskins would be more interested in this deal than the Bills should. The Redskins need to fill both tackle spots. I don't understand this fear Bills fans have of position X not being available at the time we pick. The beauty of Marv Levy/Dick Jauron and Russ Brandon running this franchise the last 4 years is they left the cubbard pretty bare. Seriously, outside of punter and defensive back, and the other obvious positions you wouldn't select 9th overall strictly based on value of the position ( K, OG, C, FB, TE), what position on the Bills roster couldn't use a blue chipper? All the tackles are gone, take Jimmy Clausen. Great, we need a Qb. All the tackles you like are gone, and they don't like Clausen? Great! Take Derrick Morgan, we need pass rush help. Our only consistent sack threat is retiring. Derrick Morgan doesn't seem to be what they like in a pass rusher, fine...take McClain. McClain and Poz on the inside the next 5 years should be a nice duo. None of these guys interest you? Great! Take C.J. Spiller. I DARE someone who has watched this team the last 10 years to tell me this offense doesn't need a playmaker. The Bills are going to be fine. Now, the hard part is making sure you pick the right guy. -
I like him better than Trent Edwards and especially Ryan Fitzpatrick as a short term solution to keep the seat warm for a young QB. But, giving up anything more than a 6th for a stopgap seems like a bad investment. I'd rather just wait for Marc Bulger to be turned loose from St. Louis after the draft, and then add him to the mix without giving up compensation.

McNabb trade helps define draft
Deep2Moulds46 replied to ieatcrayonz's topic in Off the Wall Archives
That would be nice, bu unfortnately, I think Tebow will be there for us at 41. -
LOL WOW, Not even a good effort. Next time don't have your 5-year-old write it.
-
So you're ripping the Bills for not shelling out a mega bucks deal to a guy who has fallen on his face two years in a row? REALLY? Yes, they still have a hole at LT, but they would have a permanent hole at LT if they had paid mega millions to a guy who keeps getting our QB hurt. This is RUben Brown all over again. THe popularity bowl isn't reason enough to like a guy, especially at O-Line.
