  1. They're talking about the defense and its susceptibility to the run.
  2. Jauron thought he could get away with it because force = mass * acceleration i.e. a small guy moving faster than a big guy can deliver an equivalent hit. The problem is that there's insufficient time and space to reach a sufficient velocity when you're already on the line of scrimmage.
  3. And LeFevour played in cold weather. I'd rather see him over Tebow in a Bills uniform.
  4. The Bills should never have switched to a 4-3 to begin with; they had the 3rd-ranked defense in the NFL the season before Gregg Williams took over. Granted, the Titans' defense was 1st but if the ball had bounced differently a few times during the season their ranks could have easily been swapped.
  5. Frankly, the Bills prior defensive unit wasn't that bad; if the Bills offense wasn't cover-your-eyes awful, they would have looked a lot better. The Bills offense is so bad that no defensive unit could compensate for it; even the Super-Bowl-winning Ravens defense wouldn't be as good if they had to play as many snaps as the Bills' defense did per game. I think the Bills could get away with their new 3-4 defense playing a step or two below their old 4-3 defense if their offense was dramatically improved.
  6. Yep; he's one heck of a blocker but is a liability in the hurry-up.
  7. Maybe they'll convert him to SS? He did play SS in school at one point.
  8. I don't think anyone would argue that either the Colts or the Saints reached the Superbowl because of dominating defensive play.
  9. Maybe they'll convert Ellison to SS; he played that position in college at one point and his strong suite is pass coverage anyway.
  10. Ummm, maybe not. A major advantage of the 3-4 has nothing to do with Xs and Os: you increase your odds of drafting a really good player who's either too small or too big for his position in a 4-3. There are an awful lot of NFL teams running a 3-4 defense now so, as long as most college programs play the 4-3, the Bills are better off sticking with the 4-3 because they'll have more options when rebuilding through the draft. I think the biggest problem with the Bills defense is not the alignment but the scheme; the Tampa 2 is an anti-pass scheme better suited for warm, passing-friendly weather. Given that they've only ever had one penetrating defensive lineman, Schobel, it's no wonder that they can't get off the field on third-and-long.
  11. Would a Martz pass-whacky offensive scheme be a good fit for Buffalo weather?
  12. The 3-4 is only a wise choice when most of the other teams in the NFL aren't using it; it allows you to draft high-quality players that are either too big or too small for their positions in a 4-3. There are a lot of NFL teams using the 3-4 now so, as long as most college teams are using the 4-3, the Bills are better off sticking with the 4-3. I think the main problem with the Bills D is not their alignment but rather their scheme; the Tampa 2 is a gimmick defense that most offensive schemes have adjusted to. Last I checked, the Colts defense wasn't responsible for winning their games.
  13. You've hit the nail on the head. I'm curious as to whether McKelvin received such instruction but ignored it or if that return was treated like any other. Given April's track record and McKelvin's stated lack of self-doubt, I'm guessing it's the former. What a damned shame; a couple of minutes of ball-control offense could have salted away one hell of an upset win. Only a solid thumping of the Pats* in game 2 will put this one to rest for me.
  14. Hmmm, if it's close then the officials will find a way to make the Bills lose. They'll have to blow the Pats* out just like they did many years ago at the Ralph.
  15. I agree. I disagree; the no-huddle doesn't preclude the Bills from using a 2 TE set. Being that most of Trent's passes are so short, it doesn't matter if the receivers running the short and intermediate routes are TEs and not WRs except for the diminished YAC potential. There's a lot of flexibility in a 2 TE set and, being that our two best receivers are still going to be on the field, you're not sacrificing much.
  16. And San Fran's punter is launching the ball over 50 yards consistently. Could it be the wind?
  17. Why don't we see what Hamdan can do already? I think JP has had ample opportunities to demonstrate his skills.
  18. If the 'D' could learn to play for more than two downs in a row the season could be salvageable.
  19. It'll be a defensive pick. A good defense and a passable offense can win a lot of games, a good offense and a passable defense will split. The defense isn't good enough yet so this draft will be defense-heavy again, especially since the Bill lost 3 starters.
