If We Pass on Ebron .... We Will Regret it
1billsfan replied to TheBackupQB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that Lewan might have personality/impulse control issues. Given the almost daily police blotter stories that have become part of the NFL, I think the #9 pick is too rich for a prospect with possible issues like that. I do think NFL teams around 15 or later will start considering the risk vs value of Lewan as a pick. -

When you get past the 6 "blue chip" non-QB prospect list of Clowney, Robinson, Watkins, Mack, Matthews and Evans, then what player isn't considered a "reach" at #9? I think there's a very good chance that all 6 of those players are gone by the time the Bills pick. So if that indeed ends up being the case, then Eric Ebron is not really much of a reach IMO because the difference in the next cluster of prospects after the "blue chip" ones is a nominal one at best. -

How many running backs are taken in the first round anymore? None. The game has changed. The number one priority for a modern NFL offense after having a good to great QB, is to have a receiving match up advantage for that QB to consistently throw the ball to. I think that Eric Ebron's going to be the 2nd best TE after Graham. It may take him 2 or 3 years, but he'll get there IMO. Would it be great to have a solid RT starter like Matthews? Sure it would, but not at the expense of passing on Ebron. Matthews will be a solid pro no doubt, but he's not going to be an all time great OT because he's only going to get marginally better than the player he already is now. He's about as coached up as you can get. So if that's the case, why is Robinson going before him? Matthews may have great bloodlines, but he's not amazing enough to pass the raw guy Robinson? People talk about the hype of Ebron, I think Matthews is hyped up to be believed better than he is simply because of his last name. I won't be mad if they take Matthews, but I will think they made a mistake if Ebron's still on the board. -
Who believes in Manuel?
1billsfan replied to Chi-town Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Casserly may be good at positional evaluations, but when it comes to the QB position he's been awful. He once said that Cam Newton shouldn't be a first round pick. He had the Panthers taking Green and the Bengals taking Gabbert in the 2011 draft. Thats two team he'd have ruined. Hello, David Carr anybody? The QB position is obviously the hardest one to evaluate and you'd have to have a crystal ball to give a "he's a franchise QB" prediction on either Manuel or any of these QBs in this years draft. Manuel was a bit of a "project" QB prospect to begin with so 10 games of play means almost nothing right now. IMO Manuel lived up to his "project" QB description showing some good, bad and ugly play. He does need to show consistent high level of play by the second half of this coming season. I think he'll find his way and solidify his starting status with real signs he's a true franchise QB this year. -

I agree with you! I think Ebron's going to be an elite NFL talent and a very versatile target for their 1st round "QB of the future" pick EJ Manuel. IMO there's just no getting around the importance of providing "lift off" for Manuel in the passing game this year. Because if he doesn't establish himself this year it's probable the Bills are back on track for another go on the QB merry-go-round along with another coaching change. Yes, it would be great to have an all pro RT like Matthews. But there will be two or three RTs available the 2nd round that will be a big upgrade over what we have there now. The pick of Manuel in the first round last year makes Eric Ebron a must have if he's there. The guy makes unreal grabs for a WR let alone a TE. I understand that there's a lot of fans here who want no part of him at #9, but that's ok. There's rarely any changing of minds by this late stage of draft season...lol -
I never heard the rumor that the Bills were possibly trying to move up to draft Manziel. Where's the link to that crazy one? Mettenberger is the first QB I've seen the Bills interested in and IMO he'd be considered only if he makes a Barkley or Nassib drop to the 3rd or 4th round.

Who is going to catch E.J.'s 20 Touchdown Passes
1billsfan replied to oman128's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I got 29 TDs for Manuel... 9 Ebron 5 Johnson 5 Williams 4 Woods 3 Goodwin 2 CJ 1 Chandler While I think EJ should have a minimum of 20 TDs, I think his TD numbers would shoot up with the addition of Ebron who I think will be a great TE right away in the NFL. -
I simply do not get Bills fans not wanting Ebron. Yes, there was an unnamed NFL executive that gave a very strange comment regarding him being a "pain in the butt". That comment sounded so fake, phony and put on that it should even make Bills fans want him more seeing how there's a team out there pulling out all the stops in the hopes of him falling to them. The silly comment sounded like the executive was from the Jets. Here's a link to the story about the comment with an interview with Mike Mayock... http://www.nfl.com/n...-te-draft-class Ebron is from the north east, he's mature, he got a great personality and he already comes across as an NFL veteran in interviews. There's seemingly nothing "pain in the butt" about him unless you are the team playing him. He's going to be a star in the NFL and the Bills are in a great spot to pick him.
-
They play different positions. Also, not sure what exactly you're inferring here. If you think that Ebron didn't do well in his visit then I would find that very hard to believe. Ebron has an electric personality. Just the type that coaches love to add for team chemistry. He's a good natured, happy dude and that rubs off on other players. If they draft Ebron after trading for Williams, I see no reason for Manuel to have any excuses for failure of having the Bills neck and neck with the Pats for the division title. The Bills would be loaded with playmakers.
-
If the Bills pick Eric Ebron it's with the intention of drafting a TE with Jimmy Graham or Gronk-like production ceiling level. It's not about reception count, it's about the ability to exploit mismatches and catch touchdowns in the redzone. Yes I know, Ebron only had 3 TD catches last year. However if they pick him, the Bills talent evaluators will say that they don't care since they know he can be an elite TE at the NFL level. I hope the pick is Ebron because I think he'd be the missing piece of the Bills being a playoff team. As long as EJ can throw him the ball, which I'm pretty certain he can given the size of Ebron.
-
Why? He's supposed to be a player who's going to visit the Bills and he's a top 15 pick on almost all "top rated" boards.
-
Maybe not, so far from the lists I've seen out there, there have been no offensive lineman that have come in for any visits to the Bills. I'll give it a go with a nod to the player visits (sans the Turner pick who hasn't visited them)... 1. Ebron, TE, North Carolina (planning to visit) 2. Shazier, LB Ohio State (visited) 3. Turner, N. Dakota State 4. Seastrunk, Baylor (visited)

Imagine if the Rams drafted Johnny Manziel at #2, then traded up from #13 to draft Mike Evans...lol Why try to build the perfect line for an average, injury prone and immobile QB like Bradford when you could realistically do something like this. Shake up your team in what is a very tough division. If they were able to do this very stealthily, that would be one crazy draft night.
-
It's a valid concern and one that has to be weighed in their decision to take him or not. I hope the Bills can somehow trade up for Watkins or if not just draft Ebron 1st/OL 2nd/WR 3rd. As much as I want to be on board with Evans I just can't seem to get there. I think he's possibly got too much growing up to do and the Bills are a team that can't wait a couple of years for that to happen.
-
I think the Bills will draft either Evans or Ebron at #9. Who they like best is a good question. I like Ebron better than Evans although my support isn't as strong as it was before Ebron's pro day. I just have the feeling that Ebron will be the tougher NFL player mentally when the chips are down in a game. Right now I think that they're both high ceiling prospects with a less than comfortable potential for being "bust" picks. FYI though, the Eagles are bringing in Evans and everyone knows he's not lasting anywhere near their pick in the first. So…there's the real chance they would trade up to the Vikings #8 pick since the Bills #9 would be a very possible landing spot for Evans. IMO the Bills are in a good spot. They can trade up for Watkins (while giving up next year's #1 would hurt, it won't be too overly painful if it puts the Bills franchise back into the playoffs), they can stand pat at #9 and wait for either Evans or Ebron with the possibility of having the choice between the two, or they can trade back/add picks and still draft a great WR while bolstering the rest of the roster with even more quality prospects.

Bills need to poop or get off the pot.
1billsfan replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's just my opinion. LA is all about box office and whoever the potential owner of that franchise is, I can see them wanting "Johnny Football" being the QB of their team. The media would push for it (the Buffalo Bills moving to LA), the NFL would push for it (TMZ nation literally meets NFL), owners would push for it (many more eyes means much more money). Feel free to disagree, but that's what I think would happen in a short period of time. As in, as soon as they built the stadium. -

My two cents is that if the Buffalo Bills ever did draft Johnny Manziel, there would be such a loud clamoring on many fronts for the Bills to move to LA that it would make that possibility much more real and plausible than it was before they drafted him. Also, the buyout would seem like a lot less money for a team that already had a QB with a "superstar""Justin Beiber"-like cult following. I see EJ Manuel as a QB who can get the Bills a Superbowl if he has a great team around him using the Giants, Pittsburgh and Ravens "non-elite but plenty good enough" QB model. This season should give Bills fans a good indication of whether he can get to the Eli, Joe or Ben level. I think he can, but they do need to get him a prime receiving target to help him get over the hump in terms of having consistent winning performances. -
Very sad day...RIP, Mr. Wilson.

There is ZERO chance that Lewan is on the Buffalo Bills draft board. Given his record of violence and intimidation, he has a serious personality disorder IMO. IMO Lewan doesn't even get drafted in the first round. A team desperate enough can get away with it PR wise with a second round pick, but not a first round pick. There's a real sick story about him intimidating a girl and I don't see how any NFL team would want any part of those kind of questions in their first round pick's initial press conference. I personally wouldn't draft him in any round. IMO he's a carbon copy of Incognito. Just curious, did you know that he was just charged with aggravated assault a few days ago?

IMO Ebron is going to be a superstar NFL player and if he's picked by the Bills at #9, his presence is the final piece this team needs to get into the playoffs (and possibly a division title as long as Manuel stays healthy). I also feel that Ebron is far more mentally ready to perform in his rookie season than Evans would be. There's no excuses for the Bills not winning if he's the pick. As for Evans, I'm not trying to be mean but IMO he might be one of the most over rated players in this draft (if you don't count the QBs which are a total crapshoot). I go back and watch his tape often and I just don't see an NFL WR, I see an NFL TE. IMO I think he's eventually going to be moved to that spot in the NFL and so that coming two year transition period makes #9 overall a non-starter if I were the Bills' GM. He does have fantastic long ball catching skills, but I think he needs to work on too many things overall to ever become a team's game in-game out #1 WR receiving threat. If the Bills pick him then they can have the excuse that he was a player who wasn't fully ready and who needed a full year to find his way into the roll of a #1 WR. As for OL, I wouldn't pick one in the first round even if Matthews was still there. That's because I rank Ebron higher than him. I would go RT in the second round with a prospect like Tiny Richardson.

Exactly how is my opinion on Evans a crusade and your opinion is not? Why should I sit back and let your opinions go unchallenged when I feel you're misinforming fans? It's a message board with opinions and debate. No need to get so upset with someone that has an opposite opinion than yours. BTW, I've provided links to back up my statements.

There's a reason why the NFL combine is considered a joke. The main purpose for the combine is for teams to meet and greet the players in the hopes of finding out which players are and aren't head cases. I dare you to watch back to back tape of Watkins and Evans. Then tell me that Evans' cuts don't remind you of a river barge when compared to Watkins.
-
I doubt any NFL team is giving away their draft board information and I suspect what Brugler got was misinformation for the sole purpose of placing doubt regarding Watkins in the heads of GMs picking in the top 5. Evans is not a "high ceiling" guy. He physically lacks quickness in and out of his breaks. That's not something you can teach or get much better at, either you have the ability or you don't and he doesn't. What Evans' ceiling is would be a Vincent Jackson or a Plaxico Burris type of career. A solid #1 receiver but never considered a perennial all pro. Evans also has the tag of being a "boom or bust" type of prospect given his route running issues and the fact that there have been very few receivers in NFL history with his size. Is he Vincent Jackson or is he David Boston? Watkins on the other hand is almost unanimously considered an elite "blue chip" WR prospect who actually does have the high ceiling of a perennial all pro.

Scott chandler re signs with Bills
1billsfan replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, but it sounded like you were good with Chandler remaining as our starting TE. IMO, the Bills are no longer in rebuilding mode, they must have a winning record in 2014 and also be a serious contender within their division this year. They have the defense and they only lack a couple of pieces on offense so that EJ Manuel and Doug Marrone have no excuses for not having a winning record. -
Scott chandler re signs with Bills
1billsfan replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's baffling to me how Bills fans are satisfied with such a lackluster talent at TE. In order for the Bills to get back to the top of the mountain in the AFCE, they have to beat the Patriots. The team that just signed Revis for two years. What's that got to do with Scott Chandler? It means that the Bills would do themselves very well to pick an elite TE prospect like Eric Ebron who Revis would never be matched up against and who would give Manuel an easy target to throw to.
