Training Camp 2014...Tweets from all sources, Week 1
1billsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't get the harping on this narrative by you and Tim. EJ Manuel was a "project" QB when he was drafted and this only being his second NFL training camp he obviously still is a "project" QB. So until he makes his mark on the field in actual NFL games, there's no magic moment of him "standing tall in the huddle". I even think that Doug Whaley's statement was totally ridiculous since it expects other NFL players on the team to look at him in that way during training camp practice sessions. It's total BS. Nothing Manuel does in practice or says in an interview afterwards is truly meaningful in regards to his QB stature in the huddle. In the NFL, your "huddle" stature is determined in real NFL games. BTW Eli Manning and Joe Flacco have different temperaments than the intense personalities of the QBs you had mentioned, yet they were still able to win superbowls for their teams. Has Eli Manning ever said anything negative during interviews? I seriously don't recall if he's ever done so. It's a long training camp and this microscopic nitpicking of Manuel's temperament is starting to get stale IMO. -
This team reminds me of the way the Giants have modeled their teams over the last decade. No nonsense coach, a defense that can get after QBs, and an offense that has enough talent that they could go on a monster run if they somehow got themselves into the playoffs. It obviously hinges on the QB. With EJ Manuel, the only thing I can hang my hat right now is that he went 4-0 in his bowl games at FSU. To me, that shows a little bit of evidence that the guy could have a knack (perhaps like Eli Manning) for playoff game success. We can only hope.

Too many cooks in the kitchen?
1billsfan replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't read too much into it. My reasoning for the addition of Brown was the Bills needed it mainly for depth. NFL players simply do not practice enough to avoid injuries and this really effects RBs durability IMO. They don't build up the NFL game condition body "armor" anymore. All three will get a lot of carries because it's almost expected that Spiller and Jackson will be dinged up at some point during the season. Like Manuel, in the not so distant future, CJ will either take the reigns or the Bills will move on from him. You're right though, RB's are a dime a dozen. Basically, you're either a top 5 RB star or you're very interchangeable. There's not a lot of in-between. -
no charges in IRS investigation?
1billsfan replied to Azalin's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Seriously, a 5th grader would know that email isn't stored on a computer. Yet Lerner's lawyer thinks adults are stupid enough to believe it? Heck, didn't head of the IRS, Koskinen, even tried to float this one in front of congress? Truly amazing. The DC "bubble" people think Americans are that stupid. While there certainly are a lot of stupid people out there, I think these blatant, "in your face" tall tales are angering even liberals. They know full well that Obama's historical presidential ranking is under George W. Bush and quickly heading towards Nixon and Carter territory. -

From Obama, to Carney, to Miller, to Lerner, to Koskinen...they all have that smirk as if they to say "Are you kidding? You can't touch me. We have the police and the media bought off so go run along now before you hurt yourself kid." When you have a situation in which IRS employees are in a federal union and would therefore obviously be beholden and loyal soldiers to keeping democrats in power to protect their interests, and then you add in 6 years of a chicago-style, anything goes, corrupt administration... this is what you get. I read somewhere that the BOLO came out the day after the head of the IRS union visited the White House. Oh geez, would you look at that, another one of those silly coincidences. I just hope that one day one of these smug people gets the smirk wiped off their face. Ironically, it will probably come from the testimony of one of the little guys who have no stake in the battle of left vs right. -

It appears that there's something very damaging in those emails. The fact that ABC, NBC and CBS are not reporting on a lie this big just goes to show you how corrupt they're willing to become to cover for Obama. This big story of missing emails points to this scandal potentially being Obama's Watergate. Eventually investigators will probably get to someone who will refuse to go along with the story because they don't want to risk going to jail for perjury. -

The Washington Post, which broke Watergate and led to Nixon's resignation as our president, doesn't even have the Lois Lerner "we lost 2 years of emails" story on the front page of their website where there are about a 50-100 story links. You have to search Lerner's name to find the story. -
Not only that, just think of the technology since 9/11. Drones to be specific. Imagine the damage that could be done on American soil if the insane radicals bulldozing Iraq eventually got a hold of this technology and eventually used it to produce a mass attack on America.

Low information voters? I agree. Funny how even though we're in the age of 24/7 instant information at your fingertips, these fools not once but twice, voted for someone so enormously unqualified, unprepared and unenthused to be president. This is what happens when the American media and the American government are in bed with one another. If the MSM doesn't report it, it's not a story. Richard Nixon was a jaywalker compared to this administration's parade of scandals and yet half of America either has no clue or they couldn't care less.

If there were a clear cut "man for the job" then I would have a huge problem with them nominating a women just to cut the dems off at the knees. I just don't see one right now and the possible women nominees look just as good right now. If it's a toss up, I'd pick the women candidate because it totally blows a hole in the only logical (to them) plan of attack for Hillary's campaign.
-
I think the MSM see the wheels starting to come off and that the next two years are going to be very bad for Obama. Meaning that there's a real chance his actions will eventually lead to another Iran hostage crisis. I'm surprised the terrorist group holding those girls hostage in Africa haven't changed their demands to include Obama releasing all gitmo detainees. With Hillary, the next thing will be to call GOP women haters. So the GOP should just go ahead and nominate a women themselves. Given the state of the country, the democrats would literally have nothing to campaign on. It's not like the potential men candidates in the GOP are any better than the potential women nominees.

Vegas has released their win total projections...
1billsfan replied to Kipers Hair's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not going to predict the number of wins, but I'll pick the range of 9-12. I would think that with the talent on this team, the Bills believe they have a real shot to win the division this year. When was the last time this team honestly believed that? It's been over a decade at least. I just don't want them talking to reporters about how good they think they are, they should just give cookie cutter boring answers to all the questions leading up to the season. Then unload on the Bears. -
Oh, so that game winning drive against the Panthers doesn't count? Got it!...LOL The Atlanta game was game #13 with the Bills' season on the line and the two dropsie twins, SJ and Chandler, both had easy catches to greatly help Manuel's progression and blew it. The only disfunction happening right now are Bills fans who have no patience with a young and raw QB like Manuel. It's pretty harsh when you can't even give him credit for his successes.
-
One positive aspect about Manuel's rookie season that few people talk about was that he had 2 game winning drives and it should have been 3 if Stevie or Chandler didn't drop those two easy catches from Manuel in the dreaded Falcons/Bills Toronto game. Out of 10 games, that's very good.

I think the 2014 version of EJ Manuel could be a lot like the 2013 version of Nick Foles. There's a lot of similarities there. Specifically, both QBs were the NFL prototypical tall QBs with pretty good arms but with a lot of rawness. Even tough they were raw, they were seen as having realistic ceilings of potential franchise QBs. Both showed up and down play in their rookie seasons in the league which was very typical before the Lucks, RGIIIs and Wilsons were instant NFL "greats" as rookies. If EJ Manuel is placed in a balanced, quick read, disperse the ball, up tempo offense with occasional deep throws then he doesn't have to be a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady to get the job done. With Chip, Foles enjoyed and made great strides in a very QB friendly system that made the skilled players the stars more than the QB. Foles' ability to escape and extend plays was very key in 2013 and I see Manuel having that same skill set. Now with the addition of the new road graders on the OL, and of course Sammy Watkins, and no longer having a rookie HC, OC, and with an extra year under his belt, I see Manuel having a shot at having the 4th or 5th best QB season in the AFC. Manning, Luck, Brady will of course probably all have better seasons, but after that I think there's a shot he beats out the Rothlesberger, Flacco, Dalton second tier QB types given the players the Bills now have on offense. If you can't have a very good season with the skilled players the Bills now have then you're probably not ever going to be a good QB.

...with his team after the draft. http://profootballta...-texans-future/ Sorry, I know we're getting sick of the Kiper stuff but I couldn't help it after reading this story that has a former Bills QB as a big part of it...LOL It just goes to show you that there are two realities, there's the draft expert nimrods like Mel Kiper and then there's the guys who actually play the game. The reality for the players on the Texans is that Ryan Fitzpatrick is their starting QB. Yet Kiper somehow gave them a A-, even though they failed to snag a legitimate franchise QB prospect like Bortles, Manzeil, Bridgewater or Carr. That guy Savage is at least a two year project before they know what they have in him.

Cost of Watkins = Typical Media Bias against Buffalo
1billsfan replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that people are getting confused on the trade value table. Even NFL media outlets have it wrong. NFP did a recent story grading the trades in this year's draft and said the Bills move from #9 to #4 was worth the #45 pick, so giving up an extra #1 pick was overpaying. However, the part they don't tell you is that #45 pick is based on the value of the CURRENT draft not next year's draft. Trading a future 2015 1st round pick, let's go ahead and project #15 overall for the Bills, is worth about half the value which would be about 525 points, which is in the same ballpark as the #45 460 points. As for the Atlanta trade, they would have traded THIS year's 3rd rd pick in a deep draft that would have multiple 2nd round graded players there at that pick. So that value was accurate especially if Bortles was the player they wanted and by all accounts would have been there at Atlanta's #6 overall. They just didn't want to risk the unthinkable happening. -
I'm almost 100% sure that next year, it will no contest in regards to who'd you rather have, Watkins without our 2015 first rd pick or having Ebron plus whoever will be there between picks 15-25. Watkins looks to have that very rare combination of elite talent and elite character. I just watched Ebron's press conference for the Lions (because I had grown attached to him for the Bills pick at #9) and it's kind of stunning how much "growing up" Ebron still has to do in comparison to Watkins. Ebron's not a bad guy, he just comes across as a kid (which he is), where Watkins comes across as a veteran player who's serious about what he wants to accomplish. Having someone like that is like striking gold. Think of the Bills possibly having a Jerry Rice or a Larry Fitzgerald. I think Watkins just might be that final missing piece we've all been waiting for. He seems to have that kind of elite talent and character.

Bills Roster Talent NOT COUNTING QB
1billsfan replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the AFC is vastly weaker that it was only a couple of years ago. It has the well-rounded Peyton led Broncos, then a couple of teams who's winning records are 90% because of the QB in the Pats and the Colts, then it has........<chirping crickets> The Bills had a rookie HC, OC and QB, and significant holes in their OL and run defense which were the main reason they faltered and were not able to take advantage. If the Bills can finally get their act together this year they can not only make the playoffs, but they could even make a run at the Superbowl given the sad state of things in this conference IMO. -
when does the Spiller trade happen?
1billsfan replied to maryland-bills-fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was watching the new Top 100 players show on NFL Network and in profiling a couple of the top defenders they showed two plays with Spiller getting blown up behind the line of scrimmage, well make that Pears was getting blown up in one play and Legursky was getting blown up in the other play. Their getting run over was the only reason the plays failed. A lot of Spiller's problems last year probably dealt with these two specific players starting on the offensive line. This draft looks to have gone a long way to dealing with that problem. Spiller must be ecstatic with this draft. -
Watkins trade compared to Julio Jones trade
1billsfan replied to Ludwig van's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not only that, but he's pretending as if Doug isn't essentially on a one year "make it or break it" plan. The Bills owner died and it's obvious to everyone, well I guess until now, that the parameters have seriously changed and our GM is in full "go for it" mode. Why? Because a new owner will not keep Doug around if they don't make the playoffs this year. How anyone can not appreciate the reality of the situation, accept it, and embrace it, is beyond me. It smacks of someone who's very upset because they were hoping that Doug would keep the 2015 first round pick for a QB to replace EJ Manuel which he's already deemed to be a bust. So he should ask himself this question, why would Doug do that when he's clearly on a one year plan?...LOL -
Driving around with my wife for a couple of hours yesterday with sports talk radio on my wife eventually asked me, "Who's Clowney, I keep hearing about a guy named Clowney?"...LOL She not one bit interested in football, but it goes to show if you hear a funny name often enough you lose the fact that it's a funny last name.

List Of Players Still Available
1billsfan replied to DefenseWinzChampionshipz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Considering Fred's age and Spiller closing in on the end of his contract, I think that Lache Seastrunk will probably be the next pick.
