Wow - article on Bills' missed tackles
1billsfan replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for spelling out how clueless your point was. The Cardinals lost a game because of a collapse of historical proportions. The difference between the Bills play and the Cards play against the Bears was night and day. Don't give me excuses, the Bills loss was so lopsided because they lacked passion and effort. I didn't expect the Bills to win against the Bears but I did expect them to play tough. As for their a$$kicking they got at the hands of Detriot, start spelling out all of their coaching and roster changes. Sound familiar? Speaking of jonesing, I think you've been hanging out with one too many mail order Russians. I said effort, not desire. -

You say talent, I say lack of passion and effort is the cause of what's happening on the field right now. It's clear that neither one of us is going to budge on this one. -

I think I was being objective. I think Losman is a better QB than Kitna and he would have proven it if he wasn't getting killed by a Bills O line that clearly took the day off. Just think how Kitna would have done if our defensive line gave the pressure Detriot's D line was giving. The Bills should have had a field day against Detriot's banged up offensive line. The missed tackles for the Bills was sickening and had more to do with players not giving 100%, than players that don't know how to tackle. I also think that McGahee is a much better back than Jones. I guess we'll see exactly how each team/players compares to one another after the season is over. The final win loss total and stats will prove the arguement one way or the other. -

I think the Bills had a clear advantage in every category against the Lions except D line. This includes QB, RB, TEs, O Line, LBs, CBs and Special Teams. I saw a team that lacked the passion to play. I saw this as the reason they lost the game. A game that was not nearly as close as the score would indicate. He's going to get three years to prove himself, I know that. But that won't stop me from wanting him to quit if they continue to play without passion. I wish that Marv could be the head coach. If Joe Pa can still coach, so to can Levy. Why this is such a crazy idea to some here is more than puzzling to me. I'm tired of watching a badly coached team not caring while they're getting their collective a$$es kicked in by an even worse group of losers. -

Sorry, don't take advice from people with low reading comprehension. I didn't call for him to be fired, I said he should resign. Newsflash...we got our a$$es kicked on Sunday by a team that has less talent than the Buffalo Bills. If you don't think Marv would do a vastly better job than Jaroun then you have another thing coming. -

You're clueless if you don't think these last two performances are a direct reflection of Jaroun's abilities of being a successful head coach. You're even more clueless if you don't think that Marv could do 100% better job than Dick is doing, which isn't starting over again buddy. There's not much else I can say if you can't see how soft Jaroun has made this team. Please tune in for Sunday's slaughter due to this team lacking any balls. -

Can anyone argue why the team-wide tackling problem isn't because of Dick Jaroun's total failure as head coach? This team got taken to the woodshed by a horrible 0-5 Detriot Lion team. I seriously wish he'd resign. -

Do you honestly believe that Detriot is that much better talent-wise in the trenches than the Bills? The Bills had as good or better talent in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Yet the Bills were thoroughly dominated on the line all day long. This loss gets hung on a head coach who did not have his team prepared. It was such a bad coaching job he should be apologizing for his team's performance. There was no excuse for the Bills to be dominated by a weak, injury-riddled 0-5 team like that. It was embarassing. -

Dick Jaroun's to blame. This team's play was so pathetic that it goes staight to the head coach. This team looks so ill prepared I now hope Levy fires him and hires himself as the coach. -
...like Jaroun has. Let's face it. This team looks like they don't even practice during the week. I know we are lacking on the lines but the poor tackling by the LBs and DBs and the constant being out of position is alarming. Also the gameplans have been attrocious. The Bills are running a Pittsburg offense without a Pittsburg offensive line. Where are the rollouts? The running plays to the outside? Dick Jaroun's stock has just dropped 80% in my book after this loss and the Bear debacle. I can't even begin to consider that a Levy coached team wouldn't have been 100% more prepared for these last two games. This team is lacking in the most fundamental of football skills, that being tackling and blocking. I wonder if Wilson is regretting not letting Levy give it a go on the sideline. Tell me he doesn't wish it was Levy preparing the Bills against Belichek's Patriots and not Dick Jaroun.

The Lions are ranked 30th in passing defense in the NFL, while their running defense ranks 14. If you were a coach why would you try to run the ball frequently given these numbers? If coaching wins this then DJ and Fairchild will let JP and our much touted receiving corps do their thing. Not try to work against the opposing teams biggest strength. They need to pass early and not wait till the second half after the running game fails. This way after they start moving the ball throiugh the air, the running game will have a chance to open up.
-
Someone's got to throw it down and it might as well be me. The Bills will no doubt attack the Lions in the air this Sunday. Detriot's passing defense is one of the worst in the league. Between Jaroun's knowledge of his former defensive players and Fairchild's knowledge of the wide open attack plan from his days with the Rams, I think this is the game JP and the receivers have their day. JP has 3 TD passes (2 TDs for Evans). Oh yeah...and the Bills win baby!

Belichick devotes entire day of practice to:
1billsfan replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could see an ego clash leading to a split before the 2010 season. I could also see Belichek wanting to prove himself without having Tom Brady. It would be the ultimate test of his "team" not "star players" winning system. He'd also get a ton of picks for future Pat teams. I just hope it happens, Brady is the biggest reason for your team's championships. -

Tom Brady is what's seperating Belichek from "good" to "genious" coaching labels. It will be fun to watch the fall from grace if and when Brady leaves. At least Parcells won the big one with a backup. How did Jimmy Johnson do without Aikmen? Shula without Marino? Shanahan without Elway? I'm tired of this guy riding the coat-tails of Tom Brady. Maybe Brady will get tired of the lack of recognition and bolt to some NFC team. We can only hope. -
Success is getting points. "How well" is in reference to the team we were facing and the vicinity the Bills offense found themselves in after some positive plays, a 19 yard catch and JP making them jump offsides. But please feel free to twist that any which way you want. Sorry if the nuances of those phrases are lost on you but they're completely different in my book.
-
Can you read? I didn't call it successfull. That's twice you misrepresented what I said. It's getting obnoxious my friend.
-
Joyfull exuberence?! Exagerate much? We were playing the Bears, so the Bills getting to the Bear 42 yard line from their own 28 does constitute as "moving the ball well". Unless you had unrealistic expectations of the Bills running up and down the field on the Bears. If you did then we might as well end the discussion here.
-
That drive had a key 19 yard pass to Lee Evans. The Bills went from the Buffalo 28 to the Bears 42. How many first downs are meaningless when there's a long pass completion. What part of this don't you get?
-
Given how well the Bills were moving the ball and the Bills' drive starts the remainder of the game it strikes me as an excellent move. The Bills didn't get back into the Bears side of the field until the end of the 4th quarter. A good snap and catch was all that was needed since the Bears were walled off. Jaroun knew that the Bills had only a few attempts at scoring and he gave it a shot. It was a good call that wasn't executed correctly. We now know that the fake punt play had little to do with such a colassal loss such as this. But at least he had the forethought of knowing how few chances this team would have to actually be in a position to score. Now if he did this against a much lesser team then I'd be throwing a fit.
-
I was glad that Jaroun pulled out the fake punt trick play. The Bills will need to pull off trickery like this to beat teams that are better than them. Which there are about six of those left on the schedule. Maybe they just need to spend more practice time on them. As for game planning, I was disappointed about Jaroun's vs his old team. I was expecting the Bills to try spreading the field with JP throwing quick passes to McGahee, Evans, Price, Reed and Parrish. Also letting JP use his legs with QB rollouts and bootlegs. The Bills deciding to go with the predictable bread and butter offense vs these Bears was not a good idea since the Bills had no shot at having a running game. Carolina showed everyone how you beat this Bear defense. The Bills would have lost anyways but at least they would have gone down with their best shot of beating them. The reality of the Bills situation is that there is still a lot of work left to be done on getting better players for the offensive and defensive lines before we are a contending football team. Until then, the Bills would serve themselves well by continuing to work out the kinks with the trick plays and to be more creative on game planning the teams we are physically mismatched against.

You say that our offense isn't a test and isn't scaring anyone. I hope that the Bears also are feeling that way. McGahee has been getting better each week, Losman has been getting better each week and Evans is already there. It hasn't shown in numbers on the scoreboard but I see this as a matter of "when" not "if" it will happen. I see these baby Bills as having the confidence to go and do some damage (yes this means getting points) in Chicago. I think they have it in them to get 17 to 21 points on Sunday. My only reasoning is from what I've seen from our offense every week leading up to this game and a gut feeling that Chicago is going to have a letdown after what they did to Seattle last week. We shall see. -
Someone who got one too many atomic-wedgies when he was growing up. I'm 99.9% sure he hasn't seen the Bills play one down this season. I hope Vinnie's putting big money on his lock of the week.

Last two games: Losman (who currently has a 90.7 passer rating) - 550 yards passing McGahee (who currently leads the league overall) - 228 yards rushing Evans (is best receiver the Bears will have faced) - 197 receiving So neither of our hands are tied behind our back and we'll be the first team with a balanced offesive attack to go up against the Bears. None of the teams that Chicago has played compares to what the Bills will be bringing to the field on Sunday. I stand by my point that this will be the Bears the first true test of the season. Do the Bills still have to figure out how to translate yards into more points? Sure they do, but they also have been able to win games by holding onto the ball and moving the chains. I'm sure the Bears will be more than capable of holding the Bills in check for most of the game, but please don't tell me the Bills are lacking offensive firepower. They can be dangerous, especially for a team that may be taking them lightly. -

I think the final point total will hinge on what field position the defense and special teams can get for JP and company. The Bills will have an opportunity to put up 14 to 20 points if they both can come up big for our offense. I feel that good about our potential to hit a couple of big plays given these circumstanses. However, if the Bills are starting out on their twenty every possession then it will be six points and good night Irene. These Bears have yet to be tested. Are they the second coming of the '85 Bears? Who knows. I do know they've haven't really been tested. The Bears/Seattle game was a weird one since they didn't have to face Alexander and the other teams don't have anything that compares to what the Bills have on offense. If the Bills offense does click then the Bears will quickly find out they're not playing Detriot. We all know that the Bills have the runningback and some wideouts that can catch the ball and fly.
