  1. I love how at the beginning of the movie you're supposed to feel sorry for Jim Carrey and how much his life sucks.... I mean, that might've worked for me if they casted Rosie O'Donnel as his wife instead of Jennifer Anniston.
  2. He was a pretty good RB too. Returned an INT for a TD in the Jacksonville playoff game before my power went out.
  3. As you said it's largely semantics. Yeah, in my book mediocre = average. This is of course relative, since anybody who even makes a mini-camp roster in the NFL is a tremendous player compared to the general population. Scobel - I still say - is slightly better than an average starter in the NFL - or between mediocre and good. I think if an average (no pun intended) GM had to rank the DE's, AS would typically fall into the upper portion of that middle 3rd group. As for such a player being a starter on a top-ranked defense - yes - I believe that's possible and it's not even close. Look at the defensive roster. There are All-Pros at literally every other position. He was also a starter for the league's worst defense 2 years prior.
  4. Yeah, I didn't really join a clique until Senior year (before that a loner) but I was that same guy in HS - sort of the Kevin Arnold if you will. Miraculously, the female counterparts to our clique that we hung out with were the hot cheerleader/popular type of girls, even though most of my friends were not. Also, after reading the most recent "Dumped" post last week, I came to the sad realization that I dated the undisputed MUF of this group 7 years ago. I mean, I knew it at the time, but ya know...
  5. He's a good pass-rusher when we have a 31-10 lead on the Rams in the 4th Qtr. If we're tied with NE in the last 3 minutes, I have zero confidence in him getting anywhere near Tom Brady. He is the best DE on the team. If you made a list of the best DE for each of the 32 teams though - he's not going to be in the top 10. If that's not mediocre, then it's something between 'mediocre' and 'good'.
  6. Bruce and Reggie also showed up vs. good teams though.
  7. No team in their right mind pays Schobel 10mill more than we did. MAYBE Daniel Snyder when he's drunk.
  8. Hey Steven A. how come you're not yelling in caps and exclamation points at the end of every sentence? Yeah, I agree. If Horry & Ginobli were superstars & former MVP's and Duncan were a lesser known player, Duncan would be the unanimous choice. People just have higher expectations for him than everybody else. It's bad enough that the NBA gives out career achievement awards with respect to the Reg. Season MVP award (Nash over Shaq this year, Barkley & Malone over Jordan, David Robinson over Hakeem & Pippen, etc). No need to do the same thing for the Finals MVP award.
  9. I completely agree with all of that - right down to NBC being good in the 90's (Bob Costas in the studio, Marv Albert, Bob Trumpy at the games...good stuff). Yeah, Primetime has really diminished and it's not much better than SportsCenter anymore. I'm mostly going to miss it for sentimental reasons. They don't even show any of the scores for the losing team in a 24-21 game half the time; "lets pick up the action at 14-7 in the 3rd Qtr". I mean come on - you're supposed to be an all-football highlites show. The highlites & analysis are much more expansive for 'Baseball Tonight' and that's on 7 night a week for God's sake.
  10. Yeah, the novelty of highlites has worn off as I've grown older, but damn... I remember watching it in Elementary School, thinking I don't want to go to school the next day...then Jr. High, then High School, then College, and now work. It's been a part of my Fall Sunday evenings for as long as I can remember
  11. Has he ever even returned a kick past midfield since that opening day game? He's a jackass.
  12. Agreed...We were rumored to get him last year, and I'm glad we got Vincent instead. The consensus in Philly is that he bought a name for himself covering Michael Irving. Also, if you liked the way Winfield played you're not going to like Taylor. He tackles like a Sally.
  13. Yeah, but there defense was historically great + a decent running game. Tampa's defense was very good - not as great - and they had an average QB, mediocre OL, average WR's and a lousy running game. I'm still trying to figure out how they won.
  14. Fitting thread for me, because I'm always that guy in my group of friends where everyone scolds me for: "You HAVEN'T seen that movie?" I think most of you are lying about 'Titanic'. I'm pretty sure everbody but me has seen it. Godfather III - but from what I've heard I don't want to see it. Every Lord of the Rings - don't care for SciFi. All of the Diehards I realize that begging people to rip you was kind of the point of this thread, but c'mon... Animal House, Godfather II, and Pulp Fiction? What the hell is wrong with you people. Those are phenominal movies.
  15. So was Lebron James... Who pissed in your coffee this morning? Christ, my original post was a joke. 'Cuse has a McD's AA PG of their own coming in this year, and therefore it took me about 5.3 seconds to get over his decision. Seriously. I only saw him in the McD's game. He didn't take many outside shots (although I heard he has a decent one), but he looked like a good penetrator & passer. Of course, nobody plays any defense in those games, so who knows; but I think he'll be a good compliment to Reddick in the backcourt. I'm sure the coaches who recruited him know better than anybody here.
  16. You see - they're not the most hated program because they win all the time. They have 1 national title in the last 13 years. It's this false perception of moral superiority. All of their players mysteriously major in Sociology. The families of the kids who lived in the ghetto suddenly live in beautiful Durham homes with good jobs after their kid commits to Duke - but you never hear about this stuff. The Sports Guy said it best a couple weeks ago: "I look at myself as a leader who happens to coach basketball. I want you armed for life. I want you to develop as a player. I want you to develop as a student. And I want you to develop as a human being." (In the meantime, American Express is going to write me a gigantic check while you guys get a free scholarship, free sneakers, a free room and that's it. But let me know if you need any advice or anything, I'm always here for you.)" Joe - Pawlus can obviously play. He was a McDonald's All American.
  17. I guess American Express is getting their $'s worth on their advertising
  18. You're right I can - I was just waiting for somebody to bring that up first I know Martin dominated the Steelers game that year in the playoffs, and they were up 13-6 on the Jags before a defensive TD iced the game late 4th Qtr, and then he set a SB record for int's. I'm trying to google the stats for what is his most "successful" postseason with a HOF RB, HOF coach, great TE, good WR's. I'm pretty sure they're not pretty.
  19. He's a deuchebag for going to Duke.
  20. 2 different HOF coaches in NE have already tried that. Thanks to TH it didn't work either time.
  21. You mean twice - the TD's to Moulds & Evans vs. NE & NYJ. Two plays. You weren't talking in terms of games were you? That would be "zero". Yup
  22. We win the Jags game playing smashmouth if the wide open FB is seen by the QB in the flat on the goaline when we're up 7-3. Against Oakland we didn't play smashmouth - everyone complained that we threw too much - and the passing game sucked. Granted, Henry screwed up the NE game. But also, the refs coincidentally stopped throwing flags every time our Special Teams made a play after Halloween, which greatly helped our point total. I think we can all agree that no 1 guy is responsible for a unit sucking for so long of such historic proportions. Having a below average OL is probably the biggest problem. I think where we differ, is that I would probably rank "lousy starting QB" ahead of "average starting RB" as the #2 reason. Sure, Trent Dilfer won a SB. So did Antowain Smith and that Pittman guy of Tampa Bay. Yes, McGahee is a better player than Henry if that's what you wanted to hear. I personally feel that's more of a credit to Willis than a knock on TH.
  23. The offense scored 3 TD's in the season's first 15 Qtr's. One was a garbage-time score vs. Oakland, another was about a 20 yard drive vs. Jacksonville after a turnover. The bomb to Moulds vs. NE was like the only legitimate offensive score in September. And that was after a season where they were kept out of the endzone 7 out of 16 games, and sucking an additional half-season before that. Drew is a common denominator. A rookie HC, out of shape tackle, and secondary problems are not.
  24. Fair enough. I don't remember reading/hearing that version, but it sounds good to me.
  25. I love how David Stern blamed the poor ratings on video games & the internet, and with a straight face no less.
