Every year at some point you get the feeling the Bills read their press clippings. They are the darlings of Las Vegas again, very high on the SB odds list. 5 time AFC East Champs going for 6 without breaking a sweat. The training camp, St. John Fisher... it's all good times, bonding, goofing around, scooters, Hard Knocks, etc. Hey we're the Buffalo Bills and gonna dominate everyone when the regular season starts. I'm sure they work hard when they need to, but sometimes for a team on top it takes a good slap in the face to wake everyone up that it's not all fun times and goofing around. People have careers on the line and they mailed that one in Sunday night. I'm sure McD ripped the participants a new one in the team meeting yesterday or today. And for the guys that didn't play, he put them on notice.

Yes and even McDermott mentioned the main reason. He talked about trenches etc... but he really made a point to say when your combined QB's have a rating in the 50's and the opponents QB ratings are over 100, it's going to be ugly. We are lucky to have Josh Allen, he masks everything even the D. The Bills QBs on Sunday night are what drought era QB'ing looks like.

Jake Browning (Cinci) shows you what an actual competent backup looks like. Plays with 2nd and 3rd stringers, no problem.

Preseason Week 2 - Post Updates Here
zow2 replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall
Commanders starting RB is probably gonna be a rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt. 7th round pick from Arizona. He’s balled out in camp and they are ready to move off of Brian Robinson, who was a high draft pick. -
We are cooked for a season ender, but if it’s a 2-3 game absence by Allen, the QB2 has to win a game or two. At the moment i would only keep Trubisky mainly because he knows the entire offense and has experience. I would just implore him to take what’s there and not screw up. Just move the team forwards , not backwards! I’d definitely check out some other teams cuts. Mike White stinks. He was lousy for the Jets after his 1 game of prominence and he was lousy for Miami even in preseason games. Mike should be released.
-
For me it’s just about individual guys. and most of them were bad. The QBs were lousy, both trenches were dominated, the secondary stunk up the joint. So each guy in those units needs to be concerned with his level of play.

New stadium to have real grass - per BB last night

did you know the wind diffusers are each in the shape of the charge logo on the Bills helmet. yeah figured you did. -
If you are cutting Hamlin, do it now...

Hamlin could not stand out amongst 2nd and 3rd stringers. -
The absolute worst parts of the game for me was the performances (or lack thereof) of our two backup QB's. I thought White was terrible and Trubisky was lousy. Yes they were pressured on occasion but they did not know how to handle it. That's a bad sign. The defensive secondary was a mess, and of course we've all mentioned Andreesen as well.

McDermott gets a lot of motivational mileage out of losses like this. Being a preseason game is very good, as opposed to a regular season drubbing. Some people here blow off this loss as meaningless preseason nonsense. But McDermott is seething mad and disappointed in some aspects of his team. He was holding back in his presser after the game but you could feel it.

They showed Bosa yawning on the sidelines and I see on social media how tired they all are. from one guy yawning. Lol. There were a couple factors.. I think Chicago and Ben Johnson were trying to win that game, and win big. The Bears are resetting the culture. They brought the house on White and Trubisky on several 2nd and 3rd and longs. The Bills were definitely using some fringe guys in the first half. That being said, we hoped a few players that we know will be on the team would POP, and that didn't happen. And some guys looked slow and physically not there.

Does there need to be a rethinking of the basic D?
zow2 replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I need to be talked off the ledge a bit. I just can't think of a legit SB team with a deep secondary as weak as ours. We all know Josh can get us to the brink with offense.. but when you play the other elite AFC team(s) at the end of January, the D comes up small. Teams can throw on us and convert 3rd downs at a good clip. -
As noted by some media, the scrimmage with Chicago on Friday was the sole preseason game for the starters. Anyone who was playing in the game last night either needs reps or is a fringe guy they needed to evaluate.

Elijah Moore.......I think he is trending toward not making the roster

I agree on Shavers. It's his time. He's a tall target, and we have more than enough shorter quick guys. -

The system is designed to make opponents go 10-12 plays to get it down and score. And somewhere in there, the thinking is we get a fumble, INT, sack, etc..to stop the drive. The Bills D does a pretty good job on first and second down but they've been horrible on 3rd downs (as we all know). That has to change, -

I could see him getting cut and someone like Hamler in his place. On another note, people sleep on how Josh lifts up everyone on offense. In preseason we are watching Elijah Moore with horrendous Mike White and subpar Trubisky. All these receivers will look better when Allen is throwing them the football. -
The draft picks looked terrible for the most part, or at best invisible. Maybe Hancock and Lundt deserve a golf clap. It's tough to watch the Bills not get close to touching the other teams QB. They don't make the QB uncomfortable at all. At this point, I'd be a little nervous as Beane and might pick up the phone to inquire about Hendrickson or Parsons. Ideally he could make a move for a proven safety. The SB window is now. If you have to mortgage the future a bit so be it. The offense is fine,,, Josh will make people like Ray Davis and Moore better than they look now. He makes everyone look way better.

Cutting Hamlin should happen. That would be a great story line for Hard Knocks. But it won't happen. -
Correct, and Hard Knocks wasn’t given access to embarrass the club. so they will maybe show some irritated coaches but nothing that puts the organization in a bad light.
-
528 yards to 180. McDermott needs to put that on his projector and own that. Even for preseason that just a dumb disparity.
-
Another one - Trey Hendrickson asks for a trade from Cincy
zow2 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d rather have a ball hawking hard hitting Safety, but i’d start making calls about Hendrickson or Micah Parsons. I’m worried about the defense here but it’s probably more from PTSD -
There’s a QB from Laurier (canadian college) who went to UB pro day. He had great promise and Green Bay signed him as a F/A. He’s looked pretty good, better than our experienced guys.. Tonight is what you get when you have Mike White and to a lesser extent, Mitch as your starting QBs. You get outgained 528 yards to 180.
-
You guys can spin the preseason doesn’t matter all you want. But that was embarrassing for the coaching staff and several players. These guys are ultra competitive and don’t like to be embarrassed… especially on national tv. The draft picks did minimal. Beane is not impressed that’s for sure.
-
Yep, i think Mitch and Shane were ill prepared for it. Obviously the Bears wanted to win this game badly and they now want the shutout. Yardage about to be 550 to 180.
