  1. i was looking at some highlights and see they line up in a 3 man front at times and use him as LDE.. he is very impressive there
  2. I am one of the few people that think Defensive End is a major need for the Bills.. I am not sold on re-signing Jerry Hughes to a long term deal. 250 lbs is a bit small for either left or right DE.. As of right now, there is not even one guy that I feel comfortable playing 9 technique outside of Williams and Hughes and Hughes is in the last year of his deal.. My question is would you be ok with Buffalo addressing DE early? What if Clowney Drops? Personally, I like a big fast powerful D-Line, and I would build my defense around it. WIlliams, Williams, Dareus, and Donald as your primary 4 lineman with Hughes coming in to blitz or just replace a guy and rush as well as Branch as our primary backup DT.. I'm more comfortable with Bradham at OLB than I am with Hughes lining up at DE on 1st and 2nd down most series.. What do you think? I like Carrington and If they can re-sign him for a reasonable price than I'm all in on Carrington... http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/Pitt/2014/02/24/Pitt-s-Aaron-Donald-leaves-NFL-scouts-raving/stories/201402240205
  3. I also really like Carrington and feel that Its important to re-sign him.. He has played very well when he has gotten on the field.. Two things are gonna happen, we may get a discount because of lack of league exposure/playing time.. Or somebody will see how well he grades out and pay him big money to start, which the BIlls will not match or exceed the offer is my guess and we lose him.. Carpenter is another guy that played really well and could be paid more by another team depending on a lot of things i suppose.. I don't foresee Leanhard getting re-signed now that Pettine is gone.. It seems like we have our safeties if Byrd is re-signed then they really can ignore that position if they think Duke Williams and Meeks are worth the roster spots.. Searcy is more than serviceable so that gives us 5 .. My question is Where does Carrington Fit in? I could see him play pass rushing 3 technique DT or run stuffing 4-3 end, but I am under the impression that his best position might be 3/4 DE or 3 technique DT which he really doesn't have much a chance at starting at in this defense.. Not that I would be unhappy of a line that started Mario WIlliams, Kyle Williams, Marcel Dareus, and Alex Carrington, with Alan Branch and Jerry Hughes as potential starters/rotation guys in that mix.. I just think that another really dominant pass rushing DE would be a better way to spend the money.. If we like Hughes size then it opens up a ton of possibilities with some mid tier free agents that may be able to succeed in this scheme.. Wide 9 is kinda like sending a 3/4 OLB every play like a james Harrison would fit as DE just as well as he fit at OLB in pittsburgh..
  4. ILB and TE are the Positions that have the least amount of cap space used for them and still have a huge impact on the game.. Long snapper, Punter, Kicker, and Fullback are to be expected lower salaried positions.. Once we release Kolb, QB will be insanely low pay compared to the rest of the league as well.. Even before so, the best teams in the league account Mario Williams type money for QB so we have a lot of room at that position to sign a star if one were to become available or draft another one high or just keep the young guys and use the extra money to help the young QB succeed such as protecting him and giving him the most amount of good targets possible.. No matter how much room we have under the cap, there is always ways to clear more money if such a player were to become available.. If they can upgrade Pears that alone will free up enough money to sign a starting caliber G or OLB.. But I have always been of the theory that you don't cut players until you replace them with somebody better first, unless it is imparing your ability to make contract offers.. I don't see that being the case as of yet...
  5. Kudos to Spotrac for keeping this information available to us! http://www.spotrac.c...positions/2014/ Doug Marrone recently said in an interview that he/they do not look at the Free agents available or players available in the draft and say "this is what we would do if we pick up this guy or that guy", what he says they do is try to figure out how to win with the players they do have under contract.. He said that once they sign a free agent or draft a player they, to a certain degree rewrite the script of how they want to approach the season with their scheme, gameplanning, and matchups/mismatches and such.. With all that being said, the bills have 7 draft picks coming up and also have pretty close to 19 million in salary cap room to spend.. They should keep about 4-5 million for rookies aside which leaves them able to spend around 14-15 million without cutting anybody.. I hate to speculate about anyone being cut but if any one player is likely to be released it would be Kevin Kolb. I'm not a capologist but it appears that it would net around a 3 million dollar savings if that happens which could increase the available money to spend this offseason on free agents to between 17-18 million dollars. Now lets not forget that It's fairly safe to assume that J Byrd will be re-signed whether it be the franchise tag or a long term deal we might as well say that he costs the team the franchise tag for safety(8.3 million). So with that in mind we should be able to spend around 9-10 million cap dollars for 2014 without cutting anybody besides Kolb and resigning only Byrd. Also, we should consider our own free agents as a higher priority especially those with exclusive rights(Frank Summers, Chris Hogan, Antoine McLaine, and Brandon Smith) and restricted free agents Thomas Welch and Mike Caussin all of those players will more than likely be retained but they are also easy to cut with very little to no cap penalty and besides Summers they are depth players more so than guys that flashed starting caliber production. That leaves the team with about 8-9 million in available cap space without releasing anyone besides Kolb, re-signing Byrd, and only retaining our exclusive/restricted rights free agents.. There are more than a few ways that the Bills could spend the extra money. Signing Scott Chandler would take up about 1/4 to 1/2 of the available money as his production should garner him a modest free agent deal at worst.. But Drafting a TE could be much cheaper as even a first rd pick now only makes a couple million a season. Alex Carrington is the 'other' guy that the Bills must be seriously considering re-signing or replacing depending on how much money the player is asking for.. Arthur Moats, Jim Leanhard, and Dan Carpenter are the only other unrestricted free agents and all could potentially be back in 2014 with modest contracts. The Bills draft 7 players and only have 7 unrestricted free agents so as long as they keep Byrd and draft well they should easily be a better team in 2014 since all the other players are not exactly superstars at their positions.. One or 2 of our holes are likely to be filled in free agency.. I am under the impression that they may sign a young free agent Offensive lineman and linebacker that still have a high ceiling to come in and compete at the RT or more likely the G position and OLB opposite Lawson in this new 4-3 look.. As of now I would assume that Bradham is the front runner for that position and I may be a lot more comfortable with that than most.. I still like him, but there needs to be a competition there and an improvement can be made whether it be a nice progression from Bradham or not.. Marrone seems to me like a guy that is confident in his ability to develop offensive lineman and with Woods big deal, letting Levitre walk, and the impending big contract that Glenn will be signing, I don't see a big splash in free agency on the Offensive line.. If both players are healthy, Legursky and Hairston may be able to hold down the 6th and 7th lineman spots on gameday as the swing C/G and tackle and bring some experience to the roster at an affordable price. I feel that the Bills could use some star power on offense and there isn't really going to be anyone available at WR and TE in free agency that has the potential that the top players in the draft will this year.. I like the WR depth a lot so grabbing Ebron or one of the top 3 tackles at 9 would suit the team well. A WR in rd 2 will be available with all the tools necessary to be a #1 opposite Stevie, Woods, and Goodwin.. It is conceivable that no matter what the order, depending on what the Bills do in free agency, the team can draft a starting RT and TE, and potentially a starting LG and even a WR that could contribute year 1.. If in the first 3 selections the Bills are lucky enough to nab up a starting O Lineman, TE, and WR, then the Bills are in a really good position to make a run at the Playoffs in 2014!! Another Dark horse draft pick that nobody seems to be talking about that I think is highly likely is a DE.. Jerry Hughes is not the prototypical size of a 4-3 end or OLB as well as our DE numbers are way down and there is nothing more important in this scheme than some guys that can get up the field and rush the passer.. If the team were to fill all its needs on the O line in free agency then this becomes even more likely in my opinion.. DE could even be the position that the Bills address in free agency since they showed their commitment to the pass rush a few years back when they played a similar scheme and signed both Mario Williams and Mark Anderson. We could see another Mark Anderson type signing which would really help solidify the DE position.. Branch is much better suited as a penetrating DT in this scheme which really doesn't give us even one backup DE worth a roster spot.. I noticed that it has 9 receivers in the top 53 contracts and the team is likely to keep 6. So there is just one example of how this is slightly flawed.. By all accounts and measures, it is close enough to use with confidence.. What do you think that the Bills should do with all the extra money they have available?
  6. agreed, that sports science thing they did with EJ manuel is impressive, he is ACC, My Guess is Nix will select from either SEC or ACC.. that leaves Bray, Wilson, and manuel as the leading candidates..
  7. Good point Mango! I have long been thinking Bray is NIX guy. He is from the SEC. With Kolb here, it is set up perfect to draft Bray...
  8. I'm kinda hoping that Dion Jordan Lasts to 8 after doing all the research.. Maybe we can end up with Jordan, Hunter or Rogers, and Wilson, Bray or Glennon in rds 1, 2, 3...
  9. So there are a few things that I have been considering most important to deciphering what NIX and his staff are gonna do this draft.. I have been fairly decent in predicting some of our picks over the last decade or so... First and foremost we have to consider the fact that Buddy Nix has only drafted players in the first rd that he has brought in for a pre draft visit. I think that this is pretty important when considering the 30 players that have been brought in. Out of Nix's three 1st and 2nd rd picks that he has made, 5 of the 6 have visited pre draft. CJ Spiller, Marcell Dareus, Stephon Gilmore, Aaron Williams, and Cordy Glenn were all pre draft visitors as far as i can remember.. With that being said, here is the list of the 30 visitors. I will highlight the guys that are thought of as sure 1st rd prospects. Not necessarily the guy that is in play at 8, forgive me or feel free to help if I miss a couple... Quarterbacks: E.J. Manuel, Florida State; Mike Glennon, North Carolina State; Geno Smith, West Virginia; Landry Jones, Oklahoma; Jeff Tuel, Washington State; Matt Scott, Arizona; Matt Barkley, USC; Tyler Bray, Tennessee; Tyler Wilson, Arkansas. note: (bills worked out Ryan Nassib privately and In my opinion he could technically be added to this list) Fullback: Kyle Juszczyk, Harvard. Wide receivers: Russell Shepard, Louisiana State; Ryan Swope, Texas A&M; Justin Hunter, Tennessee; Zach Rogers, Tennessee; Da'Rick Rogers, Tennessee Tech; Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee. Tight ends: Ryan Griffin, Connecticut; Vance McDonald, Rice. Linebackers: Jamie Collins, Southern Mississippi; Kevin Minter, Louisiana State; Jarvis Jones, Georgia; Barkevious Mingo, Louisiana State; Dion Jordan, Oregon; Alec Ogletree, Georgia; Ja'Gared Davis, Southern Methodist. Safeties: Cooper Taylor, Richmond; Malcolm Bronson, McNeese State; Jonathan Meeks, Clemson; Kenny Vaccaro, Texas; Phillip Thomas, Fresno State. With the list looking like it is, one would assume that the Bills are going to probably select at some point in this draft a Quarterback, Wide Reciever, Linebacker, and a Safety almost for sure... Also TE is a strong possibility that should be considered in the mix at almost any time.. With there being 6 selections available to us as of now there is no reason for me to speculate a trade down in this post. So lets look into the list a little more and see if maybe we can remember some of the things that have come out about each position over the last couple months.. Quarterback: The thing that sticks out to me the most is that fact that Buddy seems to firmly believe that there is 2-3 guys that are gonna be franchise QB and be successful in the league for a long time.. So if this is true, which I believe it is in his mind, that would take a lot of pressure off of the team to select Nassib at #8. If there is 2-3. who do you think he thinks they are? Also depending on how you look at it, Nassib technically did not visit pre draft anyways.. Although I added him to the list for obvious reasons.. The other thing I notice about the list is that prospects Manuel, Tuel, Smith, and Scott primarily have speed/athleticism, Nassib, Wilson, Jones, and Barkley's main attribute is accuracy, and Bray and Glennon's is primarily arm strength. I think when you look deeper into the lists you can find 3 "types" of players that they are targeting. I think that the guys that seem most ready to play are the accurate passers, the guys that will get the most media attention and give the most versatility are the athletes, and the guys that have the best long term upside are the arm strength guys.. Before Kolb signed, I would have bet that they were going from the accurate passer list since we desperately needed someone to start this season. Now I think anybody is in play although I don't consider Tuel a legit candidate to start anytime soon for no particular reason.. I think that it basically breaks down to they can get an accurate passer or a playmaker style Qb that might be able to play right away in rds 1-2. In rds 3-4 they can get a prototypical strength/size Qb prospect or a similar gifted backup to a speedy 1st rd selection (Smith or Manuel) and depending on the rd drafted it will determine what Nix expects out of the QB this season. If he thinks he can upgrade Kolb then he will early, if he thinks Kolb is going to win the job this year, then he will wait it out and hope he looks like a genius in 2-3 years.. No matter how you slice it, you can count on the bills drafting a Qb in the first 3 rds somewhere. Wide Receiver: Nix has been on record so many times now that we have to take his word for it, he wants to add a WR that is open even when he is not open... So I assume that means he likes Justin Hunter from Tennessee. Ryan Swope and DaRick Rogers are also in play here.. He is the biggest guy on the visit list that has the production to match.. He is borderline rd 1 prospect and could be there at #41.. After looking at the 30 guys on the visit list, I have to admit the thought of drafting Cordarelle Patterson rd 1, Justin Hunter rd 2, and Tyler Bray rd 3 doesn't seem so far fetched.. I know its crazy but it seems like it could work! Other than that, the Scouts have repeatedly said that this is a deep draft for WR and that we can get a good one rd 2-3. Of the positions they seem to be intent on drafting, WR seems to be one that I believe will be a top 3 rd selection for sure.. To me the fact that Buddy Nix said he sees Stevie as a good candidate to play slot means that a slot style WR is just as much in play, but I would be highly shocked to see Tavon Austin selected at 8 overall by Buffalo. I would dance for joy if I'm proven wrong on this.. Linebacker: It is apparent that the team is moving to a 3-4. Call it a hybrid all you want, we are 3-4 team now. The only thing is we prolly will use 4 D lineman on all passing situations and when we do that all of our outside LB pretty much turn into DE.. Which makes our ILB more cover guys than thumpers. This is why Bradham is getting a bit of pre season hype. Sheppard is very athletic and seems perfectly suited to come out when Bryan Scott comes in so we shouldn't be concerned about his limitations as much as we could be.. Scott is great at what he does.. Looking at the list, if we go OLB it will be a high selection and it will be for pass rush. I think that the signing of Manny Lawson helps alleviate the pressure to nab up a Stud OLB. I see Mario Williams Starting at Rush OLB and Manny Lawson starting opposite him wherever Mario lines up.. Mark Anderson is the backup to both and a DE in passing situations. SO, if you draft OLB, he better be pretty darn good! I'm not opposed to it at all.. ILB seems to be a little more of a need since our ILB are also OLB in a 4-3 setting besides lawson who plays OLB in 3-4 amd 4-3. So if they draft a ILB the prospects they have brought in are fast and can cover, so expect any LB selection to focus on speed and coverage ability if its a ILB.. Sheppard is our thumper, and we could technically do without a thumper, Bradham and Scott are too valuable in todays NFL, the new LB will be more Bradham like than Sheppard like... Virtually no chance of OLB going to buffalo once rd 1 is over unless there is some sleeper Buddy is hiding. ILB comes into play starting RD 2 and lasting til rd 5 prolly... Safety: I see Vaccaro as brought in only to measure the difference between the other 4 late rd safety guys that were brought in. My guess is by Nix comments about there being 4-6 great safeties and this being the best safety class in a decade makes me think that Vaccaro is totally out of play at 8. My guess is Safety starts to come into consideration rds 4 through 6. I like the idea of the 6-4 guy from richmond the most.. Any way you look at it, unless you project Byrd as SS in this Defense we will be drafting a SS type over a FS type. Now for the other pick(s). I think that they will draft a CB somewhere in this draft and I think that there will more than likely be a TE drafted in this draft. Here is my mock draft based on my evaluation of the pre draft process.. RD 1 QB- it will be one of the 4 guys out of Nassib, Barkley, Manuel, and Smith in order from most to least likely in my opinion.. If its not QB than it will be WR Cordarelle Patterson or OLB Dion Jordan or OLB Barkevious Mingo.. RD 2 WR- My guess is that WR and QB are taken by the Bills in the first 2 rds somehow. Unless its an OLB rd 1 , then I think WR and QB are the next 2 picks somehow someway. Justin Hunter WR Tennesee would be the perfect fit if they go QB rd 1. As far as the QB prospects go, any of the 4 first rd prospects I mentioned could potentially slide, if they all fall we start to consider Tyler Wilson, and maybe Mike Glennon as potential rd 2 picks here. Hypothetically speaking, one of the top 4 guys should still be on the board here.. RD 3 ILB/CB/WR/QB- Well the fast cover ILB/4-3 LB types will be starting to fly off the board in rd 3 so its now or never (maybe rd 4 still) if you plan on adding competition to the starting group. CB is a strong possibility here even though Nix didn't bring in any visitors at the position. As I said before if Qb has not been taken yet it will be the pick here almost for sure, for no better reason than Nix saying that if you thing you like a guy in rd 3 than you better take him rd 2.. I think Bray and Scott come into the equation here and more than likely Glennon will still be on the board with a slim possibility of Wilson being the guy this late.. WR looks strong here still, which is one reason the Bills could end up with that OLB rd 1.. It makes me think Millner is in the mix rd 1 , but I don't see it since he didn't visit... RD 4 Look at rd 3 and ad TE and Safety to the mix and take out QB and WR... Seems to me that the TE and safety prospects that were brought in are guys that might me available still about this time. If we are lucky they can grab either a solid CB here or somebody to add to the secondary. More than likely someone we never heard of before, one of Buddies specialties.. RD 5-6 Rd 5 -6 seems to be the place for the Safety and TE to be drafted. Best available at the positions.. Not that I made any really bold predictions here, but I think that all of this is relevant to what is going to happen this weekend!
  10. Tavon Austin will be the first WR selected. Write it down. No team in the league has another WR higher on their board than this guy. In fact, he is the most dynamic offensive player in the draft hands down.
  11. that is a great post. I remember everyone was talking about ponder or locker in rd 2 and it was a collective jaw hitting floor when ponder went as high as he did.. I look at this years draft a lot like that draft. Barkley is Locker, Nassib is Ponder, glennon is mallet, and believe it or not manuel reminds me of newton but clearly isn't as dynamic
  12. I am really hoping that this is the year that Buddy Nix trades down in the draft. It would be a wonderful idea to stockpile picks and grab 2 qb
  13. Very well said!!!!! A bunch of douchebags complaining about fans leaving while up huge, get a ticket and show up whiners, a bunch of crybabies will cry about anyhing.
  14. My name is Dan Neilly and I have been commishing fantasy football for 7 seasons now. We have been running 2 great leagues and are starting another high stakes fantasy league to mimic our extremely successful high rollers league. We have some openings left and would love to have some responsible adults playing in our leagues that are interested in a honestly run, highly competitive, very active, and high scoring league. If you would like to step it up a notch and participate for a grand prize of potentially over 2000 dollars then this is your league. If you would like to play in a league that doesn't keep any of the prize money and that the commish pays full price in then this is your league. 1st place pays 65% of money, 2nd place pays 25% of the money , and regular season high points winner receives 10% of the money. There are no transaction fees and waivers reset every week based on reversed order of standings. I collect and store the money on a paypal account, and if you don't have paypal you can send a check or money order and I can put it on the paypal account for you. We have finely tuned a very unique and exciting league that will blow the standard leagues you are used to out of the water. Our scoring system rewards .1 pt for every yd recieving or rushing until you hit 100 yds in which you start to receive .2 pts for every yd receiving, as well as a 3 pt bonus for 100 yds rushing or receiving. We have 1, 2, and 3 pt bonus for td over 40 yds for a pass, a rush or a reception. Players receive 1 pt per reception until they catch 10 passes then they get 2 pts per reception from 11-99 catches. QBs receive .1 pt for every 2 yds passing and at 300 yds there is a 3 pt bonus as well as the qb receives .2 pts for every yd from 300-999. TDs are 6 pts and all turnovers are -3 on offense and +3 on defense. We have bonus for long fg, anything over 40 yds gets a bonus. Defenses score highly for good performances and they are very important in this league. Sacks are 2 and we reward pts for interception and fumble return yds. .1 for every 2 yds. Our scoring system makes sense and makes watching games really fun because we reward for everything logical as well as give bonus for great performances. Your starting roster consists of 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX QB/RB/WR/TE, 1 FLEX RB/WR/TE, 1 K, and 1 DEF. The bench is flexible and we have 11 starters and 11 bench players. You play every team every week so bad luck matchups do not play into the standings. You could go 11-0 to 0-11 any given week. The best 6 teams always make the playoffs with 2 first rd byes awarded for best overall records. Then 4 teams play all week 14 with the best 2 scorers advancing, then the remaining 4 teams play week 15 to see who advances to the superbowl and the chance to win the large prizes. 15. I have 2 leagues with openings, one is a 500 dollar league and this is the ad I put out for it. I also have a 250 league that is the same thing besides the money. We are looking for some good owners to stick with us a while. All of the leagues are set up the same so this message applies to all of them besides the fees and payouts are different. If you know anyone that might be interested feel free to copy and paste this to them. Thanks man, hope you are doing great! 16. I agree with the original poster. My opinion is if Potter can go through all of training camp not missing kick, then kicks well all preseason, Lindell is as good as gone. He is not that good, not even a top 15 kicker in the league. His lack of range costs us tons of points, I cant even remember how many times we had a chance at a 50+ yd field goal and punted or turned it over on downs. Sometimes even 48-49 yarders- Chan doesn't trust Rian with them at all. In the NFL you have to be automatic on everything inside 45 yards. If Potter can't do that, I would consider keeping Lindell around til he teaches him how to kick at the Ralph. This was a draft pick people, he must be amazing to be drafted. Anyone that wants to keep Lindell is holding on to the past in my opinion. As an avid fantasy football player, I can tell you that every single week there are a lot of fg 50+ yds kicked, and some players regularly hit 55-60 yarders! Lindell is a liability in my opinion and I am about as optimistic person there is... If I were GM, no way I cut one of those DL to keep Lindell
  17. more of a fantasy football article but i am doing all of the teams and figured i would share Buffalo. It was my 1000th post too:)

  19. Last season he was our #1 CB, I'm fine with him losing his job in camp to gilmore but I do not like this one bit. My philosophy is to keep the best as long as you can afford it. All I can say is that I am now hoping they sign someone and use that money. Maybe Byrd, Levitre, and F Jax?
  20. I would rather have none than vote for any of those bums
