Toyota and More Problems: 部3
John Adams replied to ExiledInIllinois's topic in Off the Wall Archives
All you do to put the car into neutral is slide the knob to the side. If you don't push it up, it won't go into reverse (and shouldn't because it's locked out anyway). There's also an "engine braking" option to slow the car. This driver was a dumbass. -

For 20 minutes, he didn't put the car in neutral? BTW, he took his hand off the wheel to turn the car off. Like I said before, this story is fishy. No idea if the pedal stuck or what but this guy was an idiot. I wouldn't have gone to neutral in the first 10 seconds or so but after about 15 seconds of the car not slowing, neutral would be the next step. -

I know little of Beck but that's funny. Massa comes across as a kid who got shoved into a locker a lot. -
I like the theory that everyone associates the name "Lindsay" with "Lindsay Lohan." I have tried cases like this and let me say that she is on crack. This is 100% PR and here we are talking about it so she's won.

Not what I said conner. No. Especially in soft studies. A history doctorate is stupid. It just means he read a bunch of books anyone can read. And then wrote some papers for his professors. Big whup. Most of the history PhD types are the guys who go around making sure everyone calls them "Dr" too. So douch-ey. An MD is a higher level degree I put some stock in. It generally indicates a level of expertise in a field for which the education is hard (certainly not impossible) to learn on your own. I have higher degrees that are stupid but at least I recognize it. My JD is a degree I could have gotten straight out of high school...and probably could have gotten in lieu of high school. All it required was a ton of reading and some critical thinking skills. MS in Electrical Engineering just requires hoop-jumping to move through the tests. Certainly no measure of my engineering skills (which are not that impressive). I put no to little stock in most college degrees. Outside the hard sciences, I'd tell people to wipe their ass with their college degrees if it wasn't an important notch on a resume when getting the first few jobs. -

I enjoy my wife's Prius. My biggest problem is that she drives it like a BMW. -

Says the guy who quotes "the stuff" he heard "on the radio" in describing the story of a cop prying up the gas pedal in depth. You're funny. -

My point is less about the gas problem that Toyota has acknowledged and more that this particular case smells fishy. It just seems hard to believe that 4-5 systems went haywire all at once. Not saying it's impossible...just seems odd is all. -

I've done that engine braking thing in my wife's Prius. On the way to engaging engine braking, you put the car in neutral. He couldn't get the car in neutral. He couldn't brake. He couldn't emergency brake. He couldn't engine brake. He couldn't turn the car off. He couldn't make the accelerator pop back up. So everything...electrical and mechanical...went wrong all at the same time? No doubt more to come. -

Oh, so his history doctorate is the credential you're advancing for why he's qualified. I stand corrected. A doctorate in history. What a colossal waste of !@#$ing time. If you're truly interested and a student of history, why waste a zillion dollars on school to get a doctorate? Your friend is a tool. -

A...a...a...doctorate...in... wait... let me finish... a doctorate in school...ahh ha ha ha ...I can't do it. A doctorate in school administration?!? Wow, what an impressive qualification! -

What are you going to do? Throw them in jail? -
Good lord, how many of those cited god? The founding fathers he gives so much credit to were not pious or even religious. You can pull god from a letter or speech here or there but Adams, Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin--to name a few--were not religious and bordered on hardly believing in god whatsoever. Regarding the author, I don't know his work at all. Sounds like all he did was take a bunch of the foudning priciples and write about them, and for whatever reason, Glenn Beck decided to diefy the author, which makes all his minions go grab the book.

Maybe only 80% of incumbents will win this year. -

We'll see. Congressional Stagnation is such a problem that it has its own Wiki page, complete with all the awful statistics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional...e_United_States Unless the only challenger on the ballot is Al Sharpton, I can't see voting for an incombent in any federal race this year. Even in that case, I'll just vote for Ken Crippen or Baba Booey. -

Wisconsin has taught me one thing: How to spell Wisconsin. I would have thought it ended with "son" and for that bit of elucidation, I thank him. -

If you can look at your Congressional rep and vote for them in clean conscience, you're a liar. My point is not that you vote out the current batch and vote in a new batch of career douches. The point is that you vote out this batch and if the next batch sucks, you vote them out too. The current bunch of top pols. clearly isn't getting the job done and we need a solid reboot with emphasis on the boot. At the moment, no one ever votes out incumbents. It just doesn't happen. With respect to registration, registering R or D feeds the monkey, which is why I recommend that you not do it. I won't even register Libertarian even though I sympathize with their philosophy the most. -

"I" isn't a party and that's the point. Since you took the "how to block quote" lesson so well (and we all thank you), let me note that your "walaaaaaa" is written voila and the "v" is not silent. -

I blame the Union Information Technology people. I'm with you LA--I have no problem with the 4 day workweek if they went through the Summer (though parents nationwide would **** a brick). I like a theory I read about (maybe Gladwell's) that teacher quality went to crap when women started being able to go into other professions. At one time, the best and brightest women were teachers or nothing. Now they can do anything, and teaching jobs are often held by people who just barely make it through college. -

Register and vote Independent. Vote incumbents in if you want more of the same.
